The Almighty Johnsons
New Zealand TV show about a family who become Norse Gods on their 21st birthday. When the youngest brother becomes a God, he becomes Odin, the God of Gods who when he finds his eternal bride Frigg, then the Norse Gods can rule the world again. So off he goes on that journey. No offense to our New Zealand brothers and sisters, but Norse Gods in New Zealand? Really? OK, I'll go with it.
A fun, but quite silly show, that at least is something different (Imagine if Australian writers and show creators actually took a risk. Imagine that! Alright, a bit on cable, but free-to-air, forget it). And a fair bit of sex and nudity, which is a surprise. One thing I've always been baffled by what I've seen of the goliath of NZ TV shows, Outrageous Fortune, was so much sex, so little nudity.
If I have one complaint, not enough Keisha Castle-Hughes, she's a regular, but only sparingly appears in most of those episodes. Ah, we'll always have The Vintner's Luck...
And Sara Wiseman reminds me, must get around to capping Jinx Sister.
Keeping the New Zealand theme of the last few days, here's some more The Almighty Johnsons from New Zealand. Final series of the show and it ends with a bang, well, not really, but the show is still pretty fun to watch and the twist to who was the beloved Frigg was pretty neat. Shame Keisha Castle-Hughes is only in 3 episodes, would've love to see more from her. Also, watching New Zealand TV, you see how small the industry really is when the same actors turn up in multiple productions. It's bizarre to watch.
One of the good things about The Almighty Johnsons was that there was a pretty casual nature to sex and nudity throughout the series, so, there was plenty of cap throughout. And there was always some nudity from newcomers (in this series Mikassa Cornwall and Colleen Davis). Shame it's over.
