Auckward Love

First New Zealand web series I've capped made by Jess Sayer and the star of The Almighty Johnsons (there's a few cameos from actors in that show) about 4 twentysomething women in a share house (surprise!) looking for love, but mainly focusing on Alice (Holly Shervey) who has just been dumped by her long-term boyfriend and is been forced back into dating by her flatmates. And it turns out she's incredibly terrible at it. Funny at times, but nothing groundbreaking unless you think women acting basically like teenage boys in sex comedies is 'different'. So, it's definitely influenced by Bridesmaids, so if you liked that movie, you'd probably like this web series.

Staying with New Zealand, this time with the web series Auckward Love, which I capped the first series of earlier in the year. This time it's longer in length (each episode 12-17 minutes in lengthy) and there's a bit more room to manoeuvre for more expansive storylines although there's still a bit of low brow swear comedy. The focus moves away from Holly Shervey's character and more onto the others, so there's a fair amount of time spent on a polyamorous relationship, which of course goes wrong. And there's plenty of cameos and when you've watch way too much New Zealand TV as I have, I'm just picking the shows they're from... Again, if you like that raunchy chick comedy genre, it's worth a look and there's a laugh or too to be had. Being longer in length also shows it's limitations, but you could do a lot worse than this web series.

Series 3 and possibly last of this New Zealand web series about 4 young women who live in a house and love to party. Also looks like it got a bit more money to make it so it's longer and has a few somewhat known New Zealand actors turn up. Some of the actresses have gotten some bigger roles; both Holly and Jess Holly have had extended roles on Shortland Street and Lucinda Hare's turned up in Australian stuff recently.
