Californication

This has been brewing for quite awhile. I capped series 1 of Californication off the TV in 2007 (Jesus, it's been going that long...), back in the days when HD was given the time of day, briefly, and then got all of series 2 off the TV as well, capped it, then sat on it because I wasn't happy with the end result, including an ever increasing editing and possibly censoring. And since, I've ummed and ahhed about doing more from Californication, downloading various series, then never watching them, then getting pushed back again and again and again... 'til a few months back when some bright spark decided to finally release series 1-5 on Bluray and I just couldn't put it off any more. So, I'm starting again...

I will say whoever made the Blurays for all series of Californication needs to be kicked in the balls. They all bafflingly default to the German audio track. How does that even happen? All of them look like a total rush job, good quality not great quality. Why bother at all?

Other things I noticed that I didn't previously were that there are two nip slip scenes, one from Pamela Adlon and another from Laura Niles. It's not much, but it's there. And HD really shows up how awful looking the painted on nipples are in the Paula Marshall scene.

I'll try to get series 2 out for next weekend, I'm working on the videos and collages as we speak, but I'm also expecting to finish off a couple of big updates on the TV side for the next week, both in HD, both final series of the show and both featuring Australian actresses, but not necessarily Australian productions. Here's hoping...

Well, after 5 years of dilly-dallying, I've finally released content from the 2nd season of Californication. So, here goes... Series 2 is all about Lew Ashby and Charlie and Marcie losing the plot and their marriage in a blaze of cocaine and bizarrely, a ridiculously budgetted, $100,000 porno version of Chinatown and it's star Daisy (Carla Gallo). Strangely, Hank takes a back seat after the first episode where he gets a vascetomy, finds out he's possibly fathered a child, mistakenly mouth rapes a girl, then gets hit in the balls with a baton. Most of the rest of the series, he seems to do a lot of following and watching for the star of the show (that will be rectified in series 3).

The rest of the stuff from series 2 including some collages featuring Judy Greer featuring scenes from both series 1 and 2. As I said previously, I'm making collages from the series when I can be bothered and I'm thinking of going back and doing some of Madchen Amick and Rachel Miner from series 1. As I said, when I'm bothered.

The way things are going, I should be able to get stuff from series 3 of Californication up on the weekend. I'm about two-thirds finished, but most of what I have left to do is finishing, so look out for that. And if all goes to plan, series 4 might be up the weekend after, I've finished watching and capping/timecoding it.

Series 3 of Californication steps away from the first two seasons and focuses on Hank, Karen, their daughter and a new batch of women including one of his students, who's also a stripper played by Eva Amurri. It's an interesting approach, bordering on farce and probably saves the show from getting stale because series 2 was pushing Hank to the background. It works too, as a one-off, but the ending suggests that the show is still stuck with the happenings of series 1 and doesn't look like loosening that noose for a while yet.

And whoa, Eva Amurri, God damn...

The rest of the videos from series 3 of Californication. Some good stuff there, I particularly like the video of Christina Ulloa (who I capped in 247°F). Didn't really expect that.

I've previously said that I had reservations about where Californication was going and series 4 not only confirmed those reservations, it beat them to an inch of it's life. Series 4 is terrible plot-wise and character-wise, but fantastic nudity wise. Most of the main characters become so annoying and they are joined by a new batch of highly annoying L.A. arseholes. There's Hollywood star Eddie Nero (Rob Lowe), but he's topped by Fisher Stevens' horrendous money man who dies so horrifically in possibly the worst episode of the entire show involving incestuous sisters, a shit throwing monkey and Fisher Stevens' finest hour... But, they are topped by Charlie's seriously wrong girlfriend, who when not enacting some admittedly occasionally amusing sexual fantasies, she's talking or doing some seriously stupid shit (that tampon scene is just disgusting and not at all funny as it's supposed to be). And Hank just loses the plot in this series, it's impossible to feel any sympathy for him and if you're still wondering what Karen sees in him, you won't after this. Sadly, you know they'll get together in the end. Ugh...

As I said, the nudity is possibly the best of the series (yeah, even series 1), so at least it has that. Addison Timlin's breasts are really something...

Heh, I can't believe I've been able to capture a series a week for the past 4 weeks. That's not like me at all. But, I'm afraid series 5 won't be happening next week as I'm only 4 episodes in and I'm usually done by this time. Ah well, it should be up soon.

Wow, 5 series in 6 weeks, that must be a record in consistency for me.

Series 5 of Californication finally loses the millstone of the underage sex angle and can now forge a new path. Well, not really. Set two and a bit years after series 4, it's still the same old Hank. Still wants Karen, still plugging any woman that goes near him and still following the same path he has in the previous 4 seasons. This time though, Karen has married her college professor aka the bloke with the mangina who's possibly more insane than Hank (good choice). And his beloved daughter Becca has found a man, who unsurprisingly turns out to be a younger version of her father, much to Hank's chagrin.

As usual, there's a neverending supply of good looking women and the two women in today's update are real nice. Camilla Luddington aka that actress that played Pippa Middleton in that terribly hilarious royal TV biopic, which I can't believe I've actually seen (don't ask...), is all types of great naked, very much appreciated.

I'd love to say that Californication will move into a different phase, but series 5 is more of the same, now just waiting out time until the writers decide that Karen will finally take Hank permanently. Meanwhile, we'll have Hank ploughing wanton women in between falling for a woman who will be a good for Hank. He'll follow some totally insane arsehole who needs his writing skills and that will supply some plot for the series (This series is a rapper turned actor Samurai Apocalypse wanting to do his own Beverly Hills Cop). And Charlie's sex life will continue to be a running joke although when it's pretty funny when his ex Marcy and her new husband Stu have role play belittling Charlie.

Series 6 isn't on Bluray as far as I know, in fact I just found out it begins here on Monday, so we're right on the ball. As soon as I can get it, I'll cap it.

Well, they finally done it. Series 6 and the nutjobs have taken over the asylum. The nutjobs were usually bearable, but this season, apart from Australian actor/comedy musician Tim Minchin's over-the-top Atticus Fetch which he actually pulls off, for the most part, with surprising subtlety, all the others are unbearable. That whole man-hating feminist plot is the worst, just horrible. Alanna Ubach's character, Jesus, why did she keep pulling her underwear up? Even more MANGINA!!! Cos two seasons of it wasn't enough! More Brad Pitt Eddie Nero! A whole plot strand where Charlie pretends to be gay and surprise, surprise, has to prove it. Also, more clueless bimbos laying down for Charlie. That tweaker rape chick. That 'reenactment' of the Rolling Stones Mars Bar incident (which at least had a laugh). Surely, I'm missing someone...

The only times this series felt worthy was when Hank was with perennial groupie Faith (Maggie Grace) as while not really plausible (particularly that going back to visit her parents episode, Oh, another annoying nutjob, the porn watching in front of everyone father), at least it was grounded and was watchable. This season seemed to have a lot less of the Hank and Karen to-and-fro, which isn't a bad thing, both should move on, but never will. But, this is a show seriously running out of legs, again mining Crazy Little Thing Called Love for Hank to make a buck from and thankfully series 7 is it's last, although I hope the nutjobs have all being thrown out to see. Sadly, I doubt it.

Final season of this comedy series that ran out of steam at least 3 seasons ago and has been reaching various depths since. The final season is so unnecessary it very much feels like a show just getting by from past 'greatness' as it meanders plotwise to its somewhat predictable end. Hank working as a writer on a comedy series is pretty much scrapping the bottom plotwise, but the addition of a son that he didn't know is such a lazy device that I'm genuinely surprised it didn't happen in previous season. And he's a terrible character, basically a slovenly version of Hank who has no problem whipping his big penis out (hilarious!) and of course, ends up in trouble with prostitutes. Hank and Marcy are basically going around in circles plotwise, only to be lumped with an 'indecent proposal' plot that just kept going and going (I think it lasted 7 episodes!) that highlighted that the 'indecent proposal' is so 1993. Karen barely appears in the series until they need to wrap the plot up and Becca only appears in the last 2 episodes, pretty much forgotten and only there to add conflict to the final episodes. Yeah, it ends in a whimper, a total shadow of its former self, not that it was the greatest comedy ever, but at least it was pretty watchable earlier on. And we'll miss the neverending parade of hot chicks getting naked. There was always that, even if the final season was a bit light on for nudity too.
