The Cult
New Zealand TV show from a few years back about a group of people looking for their families/friends and get word that they have joined a mysterious cult. So they go about trying to get them back. A bit hit and miss mainly because at 13 episodes, The Cult was probably too long. And too much mystery was put on character, more than was necessary. Plus, it's network TV, so it doesn't have the balls to go down a really dark road that cults sometimes go down, in fact, the ending seems like a cop out.
At least New Zealand TV has the balls to do genre TV unlike Australian TV, which except for crime, has been completely devoid of genre. Cos Australian TV needs another crime or family and friends TV show like a hole in the head. I will say Top of the Lake could make a decent change and being on Pay TV is a bonus (but not for capping as I don't have cable). Pay TV here seems to be far more ambitious (even if not successful) than network TV, as per the norm everywhere else.
