Damages
It's been a while since I've had new Rose Byrne caps and it's a disgrace (Jan 1 of this year, I think). It's that simple... Well, thankfully, I've come to my senses and capped her lead role in the US cable TV show, Damages, all 13 episodes and she looking as beautiful as ever (even if some of the wardrobe in this series is appalling and I'm no fashion expert). Oh, I have watched both Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, I might do some caps from them, we'll see.
What can I say about Damages? Um, possibly the most frustrating show I've watched in a long while. The series is a very good mystery, but it's focus was all of the place. Most of Patty Hewes's (Glenn Close) motivations for her actions were far-fetched and only seemed to serve the purpose for that episode only and not after, particularly the whole thing with her sister-in-law (the gorgeous Anastasia Griffith). Then there's the cartoonish villainy of Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson), even his demise was comical. The constant showing of him doing drugs, fucking women, neglect of his family, irrational assaults etc. to show that he was the bad guy was a bit rich, particularly when the greatest villain of the piece was Patty Hewes (particularly the final, but pretty obvious revelation that she tried to have Ellen (Rose Byrne) killed. The show worked better when it got away from the case and focused on who was doing what in the background.
Look, I liked the show, but was frustrated at times and I'm glad it got greenlit for 2 further series. Of course, it's off into the dustbowl that is after 10:30 TV here in Australia, so I look forward to Channel 9 butchering further series, Sopranos style. Who knows, Channel 9 might follow it's new catchphrase of "We Heart TV" and show it at the same time it airs in the US, maybe even on it's upcoming HD channel... (wishful thinking)
Capped the first series of this show back in 2007 when it aired (pre-Johnny Moronic Television), but I had a love/hate relationship with the show that ended 4 episodes into series 2 and I haven't seen an episode since. The show had gotten far too frustrating for me and while the plot of series 1 barely kept it together, series 2 had already started with the wild twists and that was too much for me. But, like Californication, I've decided to go back and finish what I started, but Damages is going to be harder to get through. I s'pose the prize at the end of this is that Gillian Alexy gets naked in series 5, but I get the feeling it's going to be a bloodbath before I get there.
And Ted Danson's character survives series 1 after getting shot. Geez, hide the sharp implements, this is going to be a long night...
Series 1 was released on Bluray here, so the videos below are in HD, except Damages does this thing where flash-forwards are shot in pixelville, so some videos below don't look great and there's nothing I can do about it. Other series haven't been released on Bluray or in full HD download, so the quality of the rest will vary.

Ah, it's finally over! I had given up watching Damages and was just flicking through it, but I decided to watch the final series and well, yep, more of the same. Twist followed by twist, each increasingly more predictable than the last with either Patty or Ellen predicting the twist and countering it. That's the problem if all you do is twists, there ends up being no shocking twists. Also, Damages tells us that every corporation has a hit squad that will come in a kill anyone getting too close or is a problem. I wonder if these hit squads cross over and do jobs for other corporations because there can't be that many people to 'take care of'. Then there's those repetitive dreams/nightmares. Series 5 parrots the story of Julian Assange/Wikileaks, even down to a 'dicey' rape claim, but I don't think people have been 'taken care of' with Wikileaks, although I could be wrong. This time the Australian angle comes from Gillian Alexy, who plays his helpful assistant/PR manager. By series 5, Damages was well and truly set in it's ways, so I was never going to like it, definitely one for the fans. Even the ending, set years in the future (Wwwwhhhaaaat!!!) is Damages all over.
It's done, it's over, I won't miss it. Nice nudity from Gillian Alexy though. Oh and yes, there are two scenes from Jenna Elfman which are both slightly different edits from different episodes.
