Fat Tony & Co.
The latest (unofficial) addition to the Underbelly franchise, not named Underbelly because of something to do with getting funding. Underbelly had being getting tired and bloated for a while, one remedy being reducing the series from 13 episodes to 8 episodes, but that only reduced the bloating, not got rid of it. At to that extent, I'm not complaining because much of the bloating ended up on these pages and was most welcome. But as a viewer, it was a tough watch at times, Badness in particular was a two part mini-series dragged out to 8 episodes.
Enter Fat Tony & Co, a return to the first and most popular series, but this time the focus was more on a small player in that series (and the reason that series is still not available to buy in this state), Tony Mokbel aka Fat Tony, not a nickname he would've gave himself. Many of the original came back, a few roles were recast or just written out altogether. Some scenes were recreated from the first season. And early on, Fat Tony & Co wasn't a bad watch, there was some over-the-top stuff, mainly from the Williams who toned it down in the original series, but here, there was no such toning down. But, once Tony disappeared to Bonnie Doon, then Greece, the bloating was back, in fact the series drags out to 9 episodes, with a final episode which seems to only exist to tie up loose ends, like Carl Williams' murder.
Haven't heard any word of any more unofficial Underbelly, but it's still rating OK, even though Channel 9 seemed to dump it even worse than they did Squizzy. Worth another go 'round, for ol' time sake...
Today's update all about Madeleine West, reprising her role from the original Underbelly, sadly no nude or even semi-nude scenes from her, but some bikini and underwear action nonetheless.
