The Insiders Guide To Happiness

2004 New Zealand series that looks at a group of people and what makes them happy. It's surprisingly ambitious, but this ambition comes with a major downside. The characters are completely baffling. One dies in the first episode, becomes a ghost, then magically is brought back to life and then (predictably) dies in the end when he (predictably) becomes super-brave. Other characters do things no human being would ever do like throw 6 million dollars off a building or continually sue for getting the same bad haircut or act as if cancer is 'no big deal'. I've never seen a series that is so frustrating to watch, yet I could not look away. Where was it going to go next? This series is very different although it still feels familiar. I wish Australian shows would take more risks like this, sure they probably fail, but at least they tried... Baffling and confounding, but amazing at the same time...

There was a sequel to this series featuring a few of the characters called The Insiders Guide To Love. And I capped it a while back. I didn't like that series from memory, might have to revisit it. Uhhh, maybe not...

Love that Madeleine Sami showed a bit in this series, liked her for a while, so this was a nice surprise.
