Last Man Standing
2005 series that died in the arse in it's initial showing. Bizarrely shown on Channel 7, as Last Man Standing is very much not a Channel 7 show, but I remember it been not bad. And rewatching it recently, it would seem that it would work better today on Channel 10 (hell, it couldn't do any worse that it did when shown). A light romantic comedy/drama head written by a woman about three men about 30 looking for love. Hell, it would make a good companion piece to Offspring. Both are set in the same area, well Offspring more Fitzroy and Last Man Standing more North Melbourne/Newmarket and even occasionally Fitzroy or Collingwood. It's all in the same inner Northern suburbs vicinity of Melbourne.
But, watching a series from 2005 makes it feel like a quaint relic, particularly when you see who turns up as guest stars. Oooh, there's Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart before they became the biggest thing on TV here. There's Menik Gooneratne from Neighbours plays a cute little girlie waitress (!!!). There's Robin McLeavy in her first gig playing an uninhabited girl. Same with Peta Sergeant. Oh and there's Zoe Ventoura knocking herself out as a cheerleader. Oh, there's Diana Glenn as a salsa dance instructor. I know this happens with all old series, but it just seems mind-boggling that this kept happening in just one series...
Anyway, first up is New Zealand actress and lead for the series, Miriama Smith. While it doesn't technically say so, the series is an incredibly rare Australian/New Zealand TV co-production, and a fair part of the series is even filmed in Wellington. Gorgeous girl and she does a fair bit of nudity in this series too. Terrible shame she never kicked on, she's great here and is matched well with the three leads.
More over the next few days as I stripped the series bare and there's a fair bit I missed the first time around. Plus it's in far better quality than the old Channel 7 576p HD. In what world is 576p HD?
