Well, better late than never. I've decided to go down the road of finally capping The L Word in it's entirety after making caps of the 1st season back in 2004 back in the pre-seamless era. Shit, 2004, has it really being that long since it started? Funny thing is, I've haven't really watched more than the 1st season. Off memory, I've watched the first couple of episodes of series 2 and about a half a dozen of series 4 episodes when I got the DVDs to prepare for something that hasn't happened yet.
This is going to take a while as I have exactly 100 timecodes from the first season, including 20 timecodes from just the 95 minute pilot, which worked out to be 15 videos, so, you can see what I'm working with. Geez, the pilot is that jam packed with good stuff, I'm surprised I've finished it. I'll try to release stuff from 2 or 3 episodes a week, but we'll see. And all in HD, well, not proper Bluray HD, but close enough.
Got through 4 episodes today, so I'm ploughing through them at the moment. I have no idea what Audra Ricketts character has to do with the rest of the show, but she randomly pops up, does a little nudity and then goes away. She even does the same early in series 2. Here's hoping for it to recurring throughout the entire show! Also Jessica Lucas of Evil Dead and Cloverfield fame (also Amusement...) has an early role making out with a girl while some guy masturbates, then we later find out he fires her. Something wrong with that boy...
Another 3 episodes down, 3 more to go which should be done next weekend, along with collages. Really should finish them off. Love the vignettes that begin each episode in series 1, which highlight some instance of lesbianism (and one gay 'incident') which usually seems unrelated to the rest of the episode, but somehow fits in. All three openers from the episodes feautured are below. This concept is abandoned from series 2 on where a full credits sequence, with nudity, takes over.
Last of the L Word stuff from series 1 and now with collages. Good to finally get out of the way after 8-9 years of planning... I'm currently 8 episodes into series 2 so that shouldn't be far off from stuff appearing on the site and it looking like it's going to be a bit less than the 85 videos that I made from series 1, which is both good and bad. Really, chronicling every girl-girl kiss in a lesbian series is a bit nuts...
Well, now I've gone further than I ever have with The L Word. Get the feeling this is going to take forever to cap the entirety, but at least I should have series 2 out of the way over the next couple of weeks.
Series 2 finally has a credit sequence and adds a couple of new characters to the show played by Sarah Shahi and Rachel Shelley. This series starts off alright, but the longer it goes, the more rickety it get and I'll discuss that further in future updates. And we have the start to what should be the best plot ever, a documentary filmmaker putting cameras in his roommates bedrooms for a documentary about what makes a lesbian. Yeah, I'm sure that'll hold up in court... Love how he got the funding for it from a sleazy producer looking for plenty of T&A. That's going to be a totally honest movie...
I've heard that there's a few moments in The L Word that are not well done and up until now, I hadn't really seen anything that was cringeworthy, but during this lot of episodes comes an absolute clunker. And it involves Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa (yeah, who knows why she's involved to begin with) and a moment where she's actually the reason for a horrendous relationship ending where the other partner was already cheating big time. It's so bad I wonder why somebody didn't pick it up and say, "No, this is terrible, think of something, anything else".
Nope, this embarrassing moment is there for the ages...
This lot of episodes features the breakdown on Jenny (Mia Kirshner) which, while it has quite a bit of nudity, is pretty hard to watch.
Haven't started watching series 3 yet, so stuff from that might be a while off. Going by when I've released stuff, it's taken 3 months from when I finished series 1 to when I've finished series 2, so I would say that's a pretty good timeline for the next batch. Although, from here on in, there is a reduction of the number of episodes in the series. 12 each in series 3, 4, 5 and 8 in series 6.
Last time I posted L Word stuff a month back, I said that it would probably be a few months before the next lot, but new stuff is a bit slow at the moment, so I was able to get the next lot of L Word stuff up in less than a month. Hopefully over the next few weeks I'll have the rest.
Series 3 starts off six months or so later and for some characters it might as well be 20 years later. Dana and Alice have broken up after been hot and heavy and it's for the dumbest reason I can think of and even that isn't explained properly. So, Alice turns into a vindictive stalker, which is the first we've known of this. Helena (Rachel Shelley) was a ruthless, power hungry woman is series 2 where in series 3 she turns into a caring, bumbling idiot. And then there's introduction of a transsexual character, which is at least interesting, but it does lead to some ludicrous angry moments blamed on steroids. Who knows where this show is going? Do the writers?
So, a major character dies, which everyone seems to think was wrong, but I dunno, life has a way of throwing up shit from out of nowhere and it makes great drama. I was thinking it was going to be awfully handled, but the death is handled quite well. Maybe I just don't have the empathy for characters like other have.
Also great to see French actress Elodie Bouchez pop up in the last episode. Loved watching her in movies in the 90s, early 2000s, so great to see her here. Shame she never took off in America, but she's still in French movies, so there's that.
Haven't had time to do collages, so I'll try to include them when I get around to series 4, which the time frame for that is usually 3 months for a series, but who knows. I haven't started watching it yet, so maybe 3 months is a good guide...
In January, I joked about the next L Word update being 3 months away, well, it's 10 months later and I've finally gotten around to part 1 of the series 4 update. Gotta admit that series 4 is a pretty good series, some good stories far better than the previous two seasons, although there's still the occasional clunker with the lesbian gamblers plot a complete dud (rendered plenty of nudity though) and anything with new character Papi was just annoying.
Final update from series 4 also with various collages from the series. As I said before, not a bad little series, much improvement from the poor series 3 and some decent new characters bought in, well, except for Papi... Some good nudity in the series, sure, not going to top series 1, but still pretty damn good and the bonus that the scenes are usually lengthy with some scenes going 3-4 minutes. Not bad at all.
Well, as I usually say, see you in 3 months with the next series, but it was 10 months between series 3 and 4 and I haven't started to watch series 5 as yet. When I get around to watching the next installment I might try to watch the last 2 series back to back as series 6 is only 8 episodes. But, we'll see. See you in 2 years 3 months.
