Murder Call

Finally gotten around to capping this 1997-2000 murder-of-the-week series that had that strange late 90s stylish killings motif that was all the rage at the time. Also notable for casting mostly unknowns (at the time) in the main cast which wasn't usually the way things went. Lucy Bell played the lead female detective and she hadn't been in much before then. Her character is very strange, completely committed to the job, zero social life, I'm pretty sure she never even had a date the entire 3 series. The show also had this plot device where 5 or so minutes to go, Lucy's character would get a sepia-tinged memory of a clue that all of the sudden makes perfect sense and solves the murder. In every single episode. Everyone else, including her partner, was just scenery. Baffling stuff...

Also of note is that the female underling cop in the show is played by Jennifer Kent, a name I instantly recognised as the same as the director of The Babadook and The Nightingale and it is the one and same. Didn't realise she did a bit of acting before becoming a much in-demand director.

Not a whole lot to cap in the show, the only nudity comes in the very last episode thanks to a crispy dead body although Tori Mussett does show a little side-boob and looks generally sexy throughout her episode. The quality of the videos are OK, a little smaller than I was hoping but pretty good. If you want to view the show, it's currently available in Australia on both 7Plus and 10play, despite being a Channel 9 show. It's also on Tubi and Plex TV. It doesn't seem to be hard-to-find currently.
