SMILF
Just finishing off the update that I first started at Australian/NZ actresses overseas with Samara Weaving. Not a bad little show, reminds me a bit of Shameless and a bit of Girls but has it's own voice and is pretty dark at times.
Second and final series of SMILF and to be honest, it won't be missed. It's a show that wants to be a Boston Shameless, but series 2 is such a mess that it doesn't know whether it wants to be Shameless or whatever Frankie Shaw dreamed up in sleep. There's the usual storylines of a struggling single mother which is where SMILF is at it's best, but series 2 also has an entire episode focusing on two babysitters that we'd only seen briefly in the previous episode and then never seen again and an episode that's only intention seems to be that Shaw wanted to make out with Kevin Bacon. Then there's a Western parody episode which i tapped out on 10 minutes in. I'm sorry, but what the fuck was that? The supporting characters from series 1 get a lot less time in series 2 as it focuses more of Frankie and her mother (played by Rosie O'Donnell) and the focus ends up being too narrow. Ah well, it's done...
