Stingers

Finally gotten around to releasing this series (some of the videos are dated September of last year). I've since finished watching series 2 (not a lot of cappable stuff). Main reason was I wanted to do collages of Christine Stephen-Daly but I was never in the mood until this week.

Series 1 is rather stock standard stuff but has a really good 5 part series finale guest starring Christine which the show should have had more of because it worked better than the single episodes. And bizarrely Jessica Napier turns up for the first 5 episodes in a role that seemed like a regular, then she is written out. It's quite strange.

Not a lot in series 2 (and a bit of clutching at straws). The double episode series opener was about a porno company that may be shopping a snuff film, but that's about a risque as it gets.

Also, it was a series for dodgy wigs (none of which are shown in the videos below...). And boy were there some terrible episodes.

Shit, it's been 18 months since I last capped a series of Stingers. For some strange reason I've gotten in the mood to watch some Stingers, I dunno why, it's every bit as generic and predictable as Blue Heelers, which I don't watch for the same reason. Meh, whatever, it's done.

Not a lot in this series, but more than the average series of Blue Heelers plus I know that Samantha Tolj has at least two nude scenes coming up (one in series 4 and another in series 7), and all that lesbian stuff with Jacinta Stapleton from series 6 on, (oh and Jodie Dry has an underwear scene in series 8 that I still have on one of my old VHS tapes) but going by how long it's taken to get here, you'll be seeing that sometime around late 2016. See you back then...

Part 1 of the update from series 6 and 7. Series 6 only had 14 episodes but played more like a mini-series the longer it went. Series 7 had 40 episodes, back to the single case per episode. Series has a bit of cast refresh through this period with Anita Hegh leaving (she was killed off from memory, gee I watched this years ago, can't remember exactly) and Gary Sweet becoming the head and a lot of series 6 deals with the character's bipolar disorder. Jacinta Stapleton also joins as an undercover cop who seems to swing both ways (keep forgetting she's sister of Sullivan, he of Strike Back and the new series Blindspot) and Daniel Frederiksen as another undercover cop. Stingers was never a high-class show, but it's still pretty watchable for the most part.

More from series 7 tomorrow, as I said, there's 40 episodes to get through.

Final part of the Stingers update, this time featuring the guest stars. Samantha Tolj reprising her sex worker character from series 5 for 2 more episodes. Also, Libby Tanner shows her breasts in another episode which is the first I knew about this even though I do remember watching a few episodes from this series back in the day. I know because I capped that Jacinta Stapleton/Samantha Healy lesbian scene back in the day and have been itching to get a better copy of it, but when Stingers was airing repeats on the HD channel, the last episode they showed before turning to GEM and stopped showing it was the episode before. Arghhhh!!! Speaking of HD, as you see from today's and yesterday's updates, there's some HD videos from it's showing on the HD channel that I've been sitting on since about 2009, so it's good to finally get around to finally releasing. In a much timely fashion...

One more series to go, 28 episodes in that. I've been flicking through the DVDs and slowly getting there, so hopefully it won't be 2 years between updates like it was for these updates. Not much in the episodes I've seen except for a Sophie Lee bikini scene, which is pretty nice.

Final series of this Australian undercover cop drama and well, it seems to go out on its own terms, but the show probably could've gone on forever. Not to say it was a great show, it always stuck to formula and had numerous leaps of faith to keep the plot going forward, but it was watchable. Stingers was also quite odd on occasion, the final season no exception with the ongoing bonkers bipolar plot involving Gary Sweet and a series final case involving a serial killer who drains his victims of blood who just so happens to be the lover of one of the crew. There was the morgue attendant who liked his clients a little too much and loony plots involving characters played by Gigi Edgley (everything her character does is out there including some pointless incest!) and Lisa Chappell. There's others I'll probably remember later, but the show was always sort of bonkers which helped counteract its hackneyed plotting.

Second part of the final Stingers update. A couple of women (Tottie Goldsmith, Jodie Dry) come back to play different characters. That's the things with long-running Australian series, they start to repeat themselves or they start casting wildly. A fair number of local comedians end up playing drug dealers, hell even old footballers like Dermott Brereton turn up as hard man drug dealers. Even Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour plays a drug dealer. Shoulda been an actor, I too coulda been a drug dealer...

Now with Stingers done I need to start another long running series. I have a choice between McLeod's Daughters and Water Rats. Hmm, McLeod's Daughters was a very PG show and while it's set on the water, Water Rats was mostly a cop show, but it did have a bit of sex every once in a while from memory. Have to look into it.
