Strike Back

Series 3 of the British action series/sleazefest where the team head back to Africa to stop Charles Dance from taking over tinpot dictatorships and unleashing some nukes. When the series changed after series 1, it was never subtle in its intentions and that has continued with Sullivan Stapleton's character just fucking every woman he comes across the instant he meets her (what's his trick, would be good to know...) and poor Philip Winchester gets lumped with the revenge driven sad sack who sees his wife slaughtered in his arms in a scene which is actually quite shocking. That whole scenario introduces a rival character who is so lazily written to add extra unnecessary tension to the story. Plus he magically found out where Charles Dance and his offsider Vincent Regan were hiding while our team struggled to ever find them. Maybe just follow him. Not only that, he magically knew of their diabolical plans. Terrible character that was set up for the revenge slaughter only for it to end in the hackneyed one-on-one fight. Let's face it, you aren't watching Strike Back for great story, but for the action and the T&A, but I gotta say, Strike Back is a pretty easy watch, never boring and the plot wasn't all that bad.

Now, if only the Blurays from the already aired series 4 were available. It took 2 years for series 3 to become available, don't want to wait another year for that series.

More from Strike Back, that British action series/sleazefest and there's no going back now, just continue what you do best. This series seems to have upped the ludicrous gunplay in the middle of city streets without anyone noticing, probably helped by the scene moving from 'yeah, this happens all the time' Africa to Europe. And don't forget a neverending bunch of incompetent soldiers who are just routinely slaughtered as our heroes 'save the day/fuck up royally (what's the difference?)' again. No real overarching villain in this series although the so-called main villain flipped sides so many times, it's hard to know if he was the bad guy in the end. This series has actors like Martin Clunes and Dougray Scott turn up to cause havoc for a couple of episodes. And that Irish terrorist plot in the middle of a Muslim terrorist plot surely only happened for the lesbian sex scene because it was ridiculous otherwise. I think I say this after every series, well except that completely different first series, but Strike Back is terrible, but highly watchable with lots of violence and T&A (kudos for Michelle Lukes getting naked) to stop anyone from having to think about many stupid things that seem to happen.

Bring on the final series!

Final series of Strike Back dials down the sleaze, sadly, but the ludicrous shoot-outs and ridiculous plots continue on unaffected. This time the team are taking down a North Korean sleeper played by Michelle Yeoh, which is actually canny casting and Yeoh is effective as she attempts to make North Korea a player in international warfare. I think spending an episode in 'North Korea' may have topped anything else for the silliest ideas Strike Back has foisted on viewers, particularly how easily they got in and out. Makes getting into America from Mexico look like a cakewalk. Strike Back also continues to knock off a major cast member a series, this time it's Michelle Lukes, which was a dreadful shame particularly as there was some other dead weight they kept 'til the end.

Strangely, I'm going to miss Strike Back, it was never a great show but it did its job. plus so many hot chicks lined up to have a sex scene with Sullivan Stapleton's character that it must've been a running joke in the writing room or something. Remember the first series when it was an earnest show starring Richard Armitage as a man looking to make amends for mistakes made in Iraq. I still wonder if I dreamt that first series after what it turned into. And shouldn't Philip Winchester's character be insanely jealous of Stapleton as he got no action after his wife was brutally murdered? I'll miss the sleaze show, that's for sure.

Reboot of Strike Back and very much more of the same. Lots of rowdy action scenes, some meaningless sex and the team save the day. Why stretch yourself..?

Another series that's gone too long, didn't even bother the watch this series and had to force myself to go through it to cap it. And nothing from Alin Sumarwata. Enough!!
