Tangle

Being neglecting this series, really don't know why, but I sort of capped this first season when it aired a few years back. One of the reasons are possibly because I've become fairly indifferent to the show after they killed off far and away the best character on the show, awesomely played by Ben Mendelsohn. Not only that, they killed him off in a most ridiculous way, hit by a car while trying to get a $50 note that fell out of his hand and into the drain. Completely soured my experience and that spectre was a pall on the show for series 2 and 3. But, no real reason to not release these videos, just something that got lost in the crowd.

As I said previously, series 1 was all about Ben Mendelsohn's character, Vince, who is now dead. Series 2 is only 6 episodes long and after spending 2 episodes on the aftermath of Vince's death, the last 4 episodes skip ahead 3 months and now they're living in a multi-storied mansion, even though Vince left them in debt. Baffling stuff. And 4 episodes to get something together, come on... There's a lot of love for this show locally, but I just can't see it. Tangle so wants to be the next Love My Way with a dash of the excellent movie Lantana, but whatever is built from an OK series one is well and truly lost with the shorter season and the loss of the best character. Bah! It could be worse I s'pose. It could be The Time of Our Lives that desperately wants to be Tangle...

OK, 3rd and final series of the show that I have a love/hate relationship with and series 3 doesn't change that. Series 3 is better and far more settled than series 2 and the spectre of Vince still hangs over the series (his brother pisses on his grave...), but not as much as it did. And the kids are every bit as fucked up as the parents, which leads to a rather explosive finale that ends the series with a rather large dark pall over it, something that the abandoned 4th season would have had trouble reconciling. Probably best to leave it at that.
