Tilda Swinton in Young Adam
(From November 2013 update) Young Adam is a Scottish drama about wannabe writer Joe (Ewan McGregor) who now works on a barge during this stage of his life with Les and Ella (Peter Mullan and Tilda Swinton) and their son. Bored, he decides to seduce the put-upon Ella, who finally relents. Meanwhile, he is carrying on a relationship with Cathy (Emily Mortimer), which is tentative to say the least. One day, Joe and Les find a dead body in the water, who turns out to be Cathy. It seems that Joe may have been involved in some way, but a married lover of Cathy's is charged with murder. As the case unfolds, Joe gets a guilty conscious as it becomes grim for the suspect. Will Joe tell the truth or will he just go on drifting from place to place? A neverendingly grim morality tale that has quite a bit of sex in it, Young Adam is a solid movie with a solid cast of very good actors. But not really a movie you'd recommend to someone looking for a good time, it's nothing but a misery here.
