(Australian update) Why won't you just die already...

Alright, alright, this is the final part of this Australian update, I promise. I had one final series that I finally decided just to release it. A Divided Heart played on Channel 9 last weekend as a part of their *snickers* "Australian Movie Showcase" aka dump Australian movies they would never show at any other time so they can make up for the fact that they have limited Australian drama. Notice how it magically stopped as the new year rolled in... *ends cynicism temporarily*

So what now? I'm got a whole bunch of new stuff lined up. There's always Satisfaction. I've also trying to make some adjustments to the website to make things a little easier to find, hopefully...

What's an Australian update without some reduxes? Well, what is it..? It's been a while since I've redone some series, so as the last update of the year is released I've gone back and made seamless caps from some old Australian series. The Australian update is finally coming to a close over the next few days, with some small stuff and some redux stuff before the end of the year.

First up is Isla Fisher in two small comedies, both of them just OK, but Isla seems to have a way of bringing out the best in films, particularly in Hot Rod which is painfully unfunny at times. Wedding Daze is a weird little film about a loser (Jason Biggs) who spontaneously asks a waitress (Isla) to marry him. And she says yes. Now they have to get to know each other, which turns into a series of weird incidents with bizarre characters that make up each other's lives. Wedding Daze has it's moments once you get over the weirdness.

The other two films are the poor horror film Boogeyman, which now has a straight-to-DVD sequel, fucked if know why. The Edge of the World is a good little thriller about a brothel by the sea that has seen it's fair share of incidents, one of which involves the killing of a former owner and a popular hooker. And those incidents are about to come back to haunt the place when a biscuit tin of memories is found and a bunch of missing diamonds are involved. Despite it's low budget constraints, the film is enjoyable enough, even if you've seen it a thousand times before.

Just a quick update today, and not a full one either considering there are other women in the film, although they are not Australian (I'll get around to releasing the others in the coming days). I actually can't tell you that much about Feast of Love because I actually got these caps from a Russian DVD, and it's not in English. The English version will be released in a few weeks, but I thought I'd get in early. All I can say is that the lighting in the film is remarkably dark. Oh, and the videos are dubbed in Russian.

The Australian update has spewed on well and truly past what I expected, and guess what, it's still got a fair bit petrol left. I've got at least 5 more series planned for the rest of this year. And then there's a massive amount of stuff I've got backed up for the start of next year.

Where would we be without love triangles in cinema? Well, we wouldn't have this film West, another hard edge, gritty Australian film. This time two cousins fall for the same girl (Gillian Alexy from McLeod's Daughters), but things come to head when she becomes pregnant, and doesn't know who the father is. There's also a murder and drugs are involved in there somewhere. It's an OK film, but it's nothing you haven't seen before, even from an Australian film. Then there's a great scene with Gillian standing in the rain. Look at Alexy04, now that's a wet T-shirt. And I haven't seen Blazey Best in a while. Nice to see her again.

Just a small Australian update today, pretty much only dragging it out so I can release some more stuff over the coming week. I think it may be official, but I've run out of Australian stuff to cap off my hard drive, which would be a first. Just waiting for the next batch now.

A quick synopsis of what I capped from. Rain Shadow is a pretty good series about country vets with Victoria Thaine co-starring with Rachel Ward. It's just been commissioned for another series. City Homicide is the most popular Australian show at the moment and Australians love cop shows. Too bad it derivative and probably has too many characters that don't do much, so it'll survive for another 10 years... Black Water wil be the forgotten crocodile film since Rogue has been released. Haven't seen Rogue yet, but Black Water is fairly good and better than it should be considering it's low budget (and Diana Glenn wearing clothes...). BlackJack is forgotten telemovie series that is pretty well written, but has been treated awfully by Channel 10. We won't be seeing it again sadly (it's better than City Homicide...).

OK, I know you've been waiting for it, come to my site, given up and you've probably gotten from some place else by now, but bugger it, here is the first two episodes of Satisfaction, which can be accessed through Johnny Moronic Television (as I flagged earlier in the month).

And let me tell you, it's taken a while (well to upload). Almost 600MB of videos from just two episodes and I think I've developed carpal tunnel syndrome trying to get the video right. I've never really capped a show in the days after it's been on and now I know why, TV shows are hard work to cap, but this was, well extremely tough (there's a 9 minute video that is edited from a 17 minute scene, ouch!).

Satisfaction definitely has the most nudity (both female and male) and sex related scenes I've ever seen on an Australian TV show by far. But, that doesn't mean the show is a tit, arse or bush fest and nothing else. There's some fairly decent stories developing as well (not that you care I'm assuming), but I enjoyed watching it much more than I thought I would.

I'll try to keep up with the capping of the show in the days after the show has aired, but if the first two episodes are to go by, it won't be easy.

There's also a video of Gabrielle Scollay from Home and Away that was requested, but now it's available at Johnny Moronic Television.

Well, it's that time again where I release a whole bunch of stuff from Australian actresses. It is supposed to be the main focus of this site, but there simply isn't enough and hell, I like the popular stuff as well (although I will not admit it if you ask me, I wanna keep my hip cred thank you).

Finally got around to capping this (it was released last week). Clubland is a pretty solid comedy about a shy boy who starts going out with a girl he meets, but there is one thing holding him back from going full on into the relationship, his incredibly overbearing mother. His mother sees that her two boys might be drifting away from her, so she begins to undermine her eldest son's relationship. Things get worse when her big break back into the stand-up comedy scene goes horribly (to help in the embarrassment stakes, she's a bawdy comedian...). I think the level of enjoyment you'll get from this film depends on how much you can stand of the mother, played brutally well by Brenda Blethyn, because the character is well, not easy to like. And Emma Booth is absolutely gorgeous and some of the sex scenes in this film are quite hot and matter-of-fact. Look out for her in some upcoming films like Hippie Hippie Shake playing of all people Germaine Greer (ouch!).

Just quickly on the two films featured today, December Boys is an Australian film featuring Harry Potter himself as one of four orphans who spend the Christmas holidays by the sea and all trying to impress a couple who may adopt one of them. Passable film, nothing you haven't seen before and Daniel Radcliffe even has a decent Australian accent considering some of the 'great' ones I've heard on film.

Welcome To The Jungle is from the makers of The Punisher and is just a Cannibal Holocaust knock-off. A couple of Aussie girls meet up with two blokes from the US in Fiji and they decide to go to New Guinea to find Michael Rockefeller who disappeared in the 60s and possibly get the $250,000 reward for finding out what happened to him. But of course, things go from bad to worse and the four bicker and fight over everything before one desecrates a tribal burial site and pisses off the locals. Nothing special, but has a nice little twist in the final seconds that almost makes up for the 80 minutes of stupidity before it.

Dangerous was an 8 part made for cable series about a woman (Brooke Satchwell) working in the premier's office and is asked to look into ramraiders in the western suburbs of Sydney. She is ambitious, so she goes down to the trenches and meets a group of people who turn out to be a ramraiders gang. This intrigues and she sort of gets involved and falls for the unofficial leader of the gang. And of course, she gets in too deep and things go bad, quickly. More of a Romeo and Juliet style story than a genre story, it is inconsistant, particularly the acting, but Brooke is fine here, but Dangerous is worth a look, if you can find it (and I had a bloody hard time finding it). Sadly, it is filmed in DV, so the caps weren't easy to get (that's why I didn't cap from the torrents).

The Circuit is an excellent six part series about that troubles involved in a travelling court in the Northern Territory. Focusing on the problems with Aboriginal justice when it mixes with white man's law, this series wasn't an easy watch (it seems SBS is going that way with the upcoming East West 101), but a rewarding one once you get in. Aaron Pedersen is the premier Aboriginal actor in the country and he excels here with an excellent supporting cast including newcomer Tammy Clarkson who is some find.

Noise is probably that best Australian film this year, although others are jumping on the bandwagons of films like The Jammed (featured here in September), The Home Song Stories (I haven't seen it yet) and Romulus, My Father (which is pretty good). Noise could've been a genre film, but it is very much more than that. After a massacre on a Melbourne train (scary, cos I sometimes catch that train line!), a young woman is left alone, the sole witness to this horrific crime. Then a murder over the other side of town shows similarities. Police set up a caravan to get information of this murder, and an unmotivated man suffering from tinnitus (heavy ringing in the ears) is dumped out there to man it. Here, he meets various local people one of which may be the killer. Excellent movie with amazing sound design that isn't a police procedural but a story of one man proving himself to better than he thinks he is.
