Quick update for 17 September...
Haven't done any capping of movies in a while, so it's time to get back on the wagon with a quick couple.
Tenderness is a drama/thriller about a teenage killer who is released from prison and is followed by a troubled teenage girl who seems to have a crush on him. He is travelling a long way to look at college prospects and the girl travels with him. Following the boy is a private detective with a vested interest in the case and desperate to make sure he doesn't kill again. Didn't really like the film as I found many of the things that happened were forced. It looked like the boy was ready to kill at any opportunity, which I didn't believe for a moment. Whatever...
The Combination is an Australian film about a Lebanese family dealing with the violence around them. The eldest son is just out of prison and has found love with an Aussie chick, much to her family's disdain. The youngest son is becoming more involved with local hood as he follows his friend and then he tuns into trouble with the hood. The film is fairly solid and well-made, which makes the quite ridiculous deleted scenes a complete puzzle. I don't know what was up with those scenes, but thankfully they didn't make the final cut, some are absolutely atrocious.

Quick update for 1 September...
After a massive month for updates (the most updates ever!), I start September with an old favourite, Penelope Cruz. And a film made by one of my favourite directors, Pedro Almodovar, Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces).
A blind former movie director, now living under his writing pseudonym of Harry Caine, has to face up to the actions of an incident that happened years before (and caused his blindness). 14 years ago, under his real name Mateo Blanco, he was directing a film (that looks remarkably like Almodovar's own excellent Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and has cast the beautiful Lena (Penélope Cruz) and they fall in love. Lena has a much older husband, who is highly suspicious of her. As the new relationship develops, the husband's suspicions escalate and Lena decides to run off with the director. And then the complications occur in regards to both the relationship and the film. Almodovar has made a film that shows his love for the art of making films, moreso than he usually does. While the film seems to drag towards the end, which is a shame, it is still a very watchable and likeable film from a pure film maker.
