Update for 30 July...
A quick update today as I've been a bit slack on the movie side for the moment and that isn't going to change in the near future. I'll try to watch some movies and get stuff out, but in the meantime here's Paz Vega nude again from the Spanish kidnap drama La Ignorancia de la Sangre.

Redux for 25 July...
Collages and videos from Dying Breed are available here.
Another HD redux from an Australian movies, this time the 2008 cannibal horror movie Dying Breed, which my most vivid memory of the movie was being the only one in the cinema when I saw it. Oh and the scene(s) below of Melanie Vallejo but the movie itself isn't the greatest and came at a time where there was a stack of Alexander Pearce inspired cannibal movies (Van Diemen's Land, The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce) came out at the same time for some bizarre reason. Was there an anniversary or something?
Having a look at this Bluray, well apart from it being not the best quality (although I haven't seen an excellent quality version of the movie even on DVD) is that I think there might be brief moment where you see a patch on the breast of Melanie. It's very quick, as in a couple of frames, but it certainly looks like it.
Shame we'll probably never get to see front nudity from Melanie (she sure had/has a few side-boob scenes in Winners and Losers). Trying to think of Australian actresses that we'll probably never see naked and number 1 on the list for me is Kestie Morassi. Man, that's been disappointing...

Redux Friday for 24 July...
Collages and videos from Restraint are available from here.
Was supposed to do this update last week when I was doing Teresa Palmer updates, but I got side-tracked as usual. Anyway, here's a HD redo from the Australian thriller Restraint formerly known as Ravenswood (there's even DVD extras that still call the movie that). Pretty decent thriller too, didn't get a lot of respect when made, I think it sat on the shelf for at least two years before it's 2008 straight-to-video release. But, the three leads (Stephen Moyer, Travis Fimmel and Teresa) have gone onto international success since, so you'd hope this movie would get more love.
This update has been capped from it's HD iTunes release and it pretty decent quality considering some of the slop I've seen from iTunes HD. Maybe should've gotten around to it earlier... There's also an extra video from the DVD extras which is from the extended ending, basically the same as the last HD video except for an extra shot of Teresa holding the covers over her breasts and taking off her dress to get down to her underwear before that scene. Having watched the extended ending, glad the editor got the scissors out because there's way too much unnecessary stuff going on. The ending is fine as is.

Update for 23 July...
It Follows is a thriller where Jay (Maika Monroe) finally goes all the way with her new boyfriend. Then he knocks her out, ties her to wheelchair and explains that by having sex with her, he has passed on a death sentence where people will follow her until she is killed. A naked woman comes after her as proof of this death sentence and now Jay must keep her away from these killer people. Oh and those who have been given the death sentence are the only people who can see these following killers. To others, including her sister Kelly (Lili Sepe) and friends Paul (Keir Gilchrist) and Yara (Olivia Luccardi), who try to help her, she seems to be going mad. After running away from one such killer, her neighbour Greg (Daniel Zovatto) decides to help her by passing the death sentence onto him, but that ends in disaster and the death sentence is back on Jay before she can get any rest. Can Jay survive this death sentence? Intriguing twist on the old horror trope of characters dying after having nasty pre-marital sex but to be honest it plays a lot more like a creepy thriller than a horror movie with zombie like killers stalking their prey for death by dry humping (which is just awful). While there are a few silly moments, It Follows is a genuinely good little thriller with an unsettling atmosphere that works well with the subject of the movie. Well worth a look.

Australian Classics for 21 July...
Today's Australian update features a couple of movies directed by Jane Campion early on in her career.
Sweetie is 1989 comedy drama where Kay (Karen Colston) finds the man of her dreams after reading the tea leaves and discovers that it's co-worker Louis (Tom Lycos). Except he has just gotten engaged, but Kay manages to convince him that they are destined to be together. Kay and Louis's relationship seems to be going well after a year and then Dawn, known as Sweetie (Campion regular Genevieve Lemon), Kay's sister breaks into the house and returns with a man she claims to be her producer who she's also sleeping with. Sweetie has been in a mental institution for a lengthy period but still have dreams of making it big even though she seems to be grossly overestimating her ability. And she causes havoc from the minute she arrives, causing problems between Kay and Louis, so Kay enlists her father to help her get Sweetie out of the house, but he is a mess after his wife, Kay's mother left him because he was way too lenient to the wayward Sweetie and still sees her as his little girl. This is not going to end well... Interestingly straightforward movie from Jane Campion who's more known for dour artful dramas and is not far removed from the suburban drama of her later movie Holy Smoke, hell, it could be a cousin to Muriel's Wedding. Genevieve Lemon is excellent as Sweetie, a horrible, selfish person who always wants the attention on her, but even after all that, her demise is actually quite sad. Probably the most accessible Campion movie I've seen for beginners and a pretty solid movie from Campion, but not really a big indicator of things to come.
An Angel at my Table is a 1990 drama based on the work biographical work of New Zealand author Janet Frame, told in three parts (and possibly more of a mini-series at 158 minutes). We follow Janet (Kerry Fox as an adult) as a young girl with distinctive curly red hair and bad teeth growing up in a poor household who from a young age wants to be a teacher but also wants to be a writer. Janet is an unremarkable person with severe shyness who goes to teacher's college, which causes conflict with her teaching dreams, so much so that staff from the college recommend she spend time in a psychiatric hospital where she is diagnosed with schizophrenia. She spends at least 8 years in psychiatric hospitals and almost has a lobotomy before being saved from having the procedure. Janet continues to write even while in hospital and starts to get a few things published including her first book. Janet is given a literary grant, which she uses to travel around Europe, first up London where she doesn't really fit in with the scene before ending up in Spain where she falls in love for the first time with an American writer. She also get more novels published, this time in Britain. Dour and very lengthy look at the life of Janet Frame that is interesting in that while Janet is a well-renowned author (admittedly, I've never heard of her, but that's more about me), she's always presented as an unremarkable person who seems out of place in most situations she finds her self in. The psychiatric stuff is particularly heartbreaking and thankfully never got a lobotomy as we find out later that she was misdiagnosed. And in the movie, it's presented that Janet has extreme shyness, which if true is a pretty damning indictment on the system who seem to be guessing at diagnoses. A pretty decent look at an unremarkable talent, but at over two and a half hours, probably best to watch in installments.

Update for 16 July...
Relative Happiness is a Canadian romantic comedy where unlucky in love Lexie (Australian actress from Winners and Losers Melissa Bergland) is lamenting the upcoming wedding of her sister Gabby (Molly Dunsworth). Pressured by her mother to have a plus one for the wedding, one night she receives a knock at the door of her BnB from Adrian (Johnathan Sousa) who is looking for a place to stay and Lexie is instantly head of heels. They get along get, Adrian even goes to a pre-wedding party with Lexie, but a few days before the wedding, Lexie catches Adrian in bed with Gabby and she loses it with the both of them. This gets worse when she discovers her father was/is having an affair. Lexie's love life seems to be falling apart, although with the wedding off she doesn't have to worry about that. But maybe the man she's been looking for has been close all along in the form of Joss (Aaron Poole), someone who she cannot stand and fired from fixing her roof, but always seems pop up at the right/wrong time. Utterly predictable rom-com, nothing really remarkable about it apart from an Australian actress starring in a Canadian movie and Melissa Bergland's character isn't far removed from her character from Winners and Losers. She does fine, but this is a by-the-book rom-com with a nice happy ending.

Update for 13 July...
Forget Me Not is a drama where at a pub one night, Eve (Genevieve O'Reilly, currently starring in Glitch) is working as a barmaid and Will (Tobias Menzies) has a gig. After finishing his gig, Will goes home across the road from the pub and plans to kill himself until he is startled by loud screaming outside where Eve is being harassed by a drunk. Will goes out to help her and begins to walk with her for a while. They begin talking and she invites him to come to a party she's going to, but just before they get to the party, they have an argument and split up. But, Will goes to the party to apologise the Eve and they continue to get to know each other including a visit to Eve's grandmother who maybe suffering from Alzheimer's. Will they or won't they get together and what is the reason why Will was going to kill himself. Pretty much a two hander that is a fairly charming look at a relationship developing from scratch over a short period of time. Possibly could have done without the twist as it really isn't necessary, otherwise Forget Me Not is not a bad little movie at all.

Update for 9 July...
Strangerland is a mystery drama where parents Catherine and Matthew Parker (Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes) are distraught after the disappearance of their son and daughter after a dust storm engulf the town. Already reeling from issues involving their 15 year-old daughter Lily (Maddison Brown) and her affair with a teacher, resulting in the family moving to a new town, Matthew is readying himself for another scandal and decides to avoid looking for his kids by working at his pharmacy. Catherine is not handling the children's disappearance well at all and is falling into old habits. The investigation and search led by local cop David (Hugo Weaving) is running into dead end after dead end, but not without bringing up some problems. It seems that Burtie (Meyne Wyatt), the slow brother of his partner Coreen (Lisa Flanagan), has had relations with the promiscuous Lily and he isn't the only one. But, could Burtie kill the missing children. Things become more clouded when Matthew finally does his own searching and finds his son alive, but severely dehydrated. Now it is a race against time to find Lily and you can only survive so long in the outback. A strange misfire considering the talent involved, Strangerland never really gathers much interest in its story of a troubled family. While Kidman is alright in her role, Fiennes is lumped with a thankless role, all anger (he bashes or attempts to any suspect that comes to light) or he's shunted off when anything emotional needs to happen. Weaving doesn't fair much better as a cop who seems to spend more time fending off Catherine's advances than investigating. Ultimately, it's not really the actors fault as the screenplay is weak, even including some unnecessary stuff involving Aboriginal legends and the mystery is handled poorly. And the ending, ah forget about it. Strangerland reminds me a helluva lot of one of the worst Australian movies I've ever seen, The Missing, their plots are very similar, although The Missing was very heavy on turning Aboriginal legends into mumbo jumbo. Strangerland is only slightly better than that. Very disappointing...

Update for 7 July...
All about Adele Perovic in today's update.
Fell is a drama where Thomas (Matt Nable) attempts to deal with the death of his daughter after she was hit by a truck driven by Luke (Daniel Henshall). Five years after his daughter's death, Thomas takes up a job with a logging company that hired Luke waiting for him to come back to his job after Luke finishes his jail term. Thomas has a motive of revenge, but when Luke comes back to his job, this time with a daughter of his own, Thomas attempts to come to grips with what he wants to do with Luke and finally coming to terms with the death of his daughter. Not a lot to this movie, it's more about mood and how the incident affects both Thomas and Luke, but also about Thomas finally being at peace with the death of his daughter. While the movie looks great, the extended ruminations from Thomas and his environment seem to go on and on and you really need a lot of patience for the admittedly small pay-off. And I gotta say I struggled...
The below video of Adele is her entire role in the movie and Jacqueline McKenzie has about the same amount of screen time, interesting that fairly known actresses are cast in these small roles. Speaking of Adele (who was also naked in The Code), found a short movie (well, 37 minutes is short) called Tears In The Cock (um, yeah, no explanation for the title although everything I can think of isn't pretty) where she also briefly appears and has another brief nude scene. The movie itself is even harder to explain than Fell, something about a possibly gay man wanting another man, bedding that man's girlfriend, while his best female friend is involved in some unhanded dealings that will end with a series of deaths and Adele (under the name of Adele McDowell, but it's definitely one and the same) pays the violent femme's sister who I think she kills although I'm not 100% on that. Then there's the extended musical numbers, fucked if I know what it's all about.

Update for 6 July...
She's Lost Control is a drama where Masters student Ronah (Brooke Bloom) is working under a psychiatrist (Dennis Boutsikaris) as a part of her Master thesis as a sexual surrogate. In this job, she works with clients that are having issues with intimacy and is helping work through those problems with the client. Ronah starts with a new client, Johnny (Marc Menchaca) who has severe intimacy problems. In her personal life, she has to deal with a leaky shower and is in the process of saving her ovum for later pregnancy. Johnny is a tough client, but Ronah is making ground with him, so much so, that they start having sex. But Johnny still cannot break fully away from his issues, even when major gains have been made. This is going to end badly for both. To be honest, I struggled trying to get my head around the idea of a sexual surrogate and how is this not a prostitute? And how is their not ethical issues with psychiatrists and what are the boundaries? I dunno, maybe it's an interesting idea, but I kept thinking that this is surely going to end in violence as frustration with dealing with intimacy is inevitable and unsurprisingly this is what happens. It just seems like an idea with way too many issues to work. Brooke Bloom is actually pretty good in the lead, but otherwise, I can't really recommend this movie at all, not because it's bad movie (it's not a great movie either as it meanders a lot and some ideas are only briefly fleshed out), but because I just have major issues with the central conceit.

Update for 3 July...
Going through some new Australian movies today.
Kill Me Three Times is a comedy thriller where hitman Charlie Wolfe (Simon Pegg) is tasked to kill Alice (Alice Braga) except Alice gets a dental appointment with local dentist Nathan (Sullivan Stapleton) and he and his wife Lucy (Teresa Palmer) have their own plans to bump off Alice. Nathan gasses Alice and then with Lucy sets up that Alice is to drive off a cliff as Lucy and they are to collect the insurance from Lucy's 'death'. All goes to plan apparently. Back a day, Alice's husband Jack (Callan Mulvey) is convinced that Alice is cheating on him and in a fit of rage punches Alice which breaks her tooth. Alice seeks comfort in the arms of boyfriend, local mechanic Dylan (Luke Hemsworth). Jack calls Charlie to do some surveillance on Alice and films Alice and Dylan having sex, to which on watching the video, Jack orders Charlie to kill Alice but just as he is about to set it up, Charlie spies Nathan and Lucy doing the deed. He decides to extort $250,000 from the couple. Turns out Nathan has a massive gambling debt and that is why is murdering Alice and local cop Bruce (Bryan Brown) is the middle man for the debt and attempts to wet his own beak from Nathan's debt. It's going to be a long day and not everyone is going to survive it. OK noirish thriller set in small town Western Australia with a surprisingly quality cast for an Australian movie and better for addition of Simon Pegg who's clearly enjoying himself playing a bastard who gets all the best lines. But the movie has way too many twists to be taken seriously and of course not everyone is who they seem. Not bad, just needs to tone it down a bit.
Sunday is a drama about former couple Eve and Charlie (real life couple Camille Keenan and Dustin Clare, I'm assuming from Satisfaction series 3) who meet up again just before Eve gives birth. Seems that they split up a few months before and they are catching up as they are about to become parents. Charlie has a few days off from his work in the military and comes and visits Eve in Christchurch, still is rebuild mode after a series of earthquakes. As they attempt to talk about the baby, Charlie is insistent on getting back together, but Eve has possibly moved on with another man and Charlie is unwilling to give up his job which has him away from Eve for 9 months of the year. Can they find common ground and move on or even get back together? Interesting look at a relationship where two people loved each other but couldn't find common ground on the future of their relationship. At barely 70 minutes, the movie gets to the point fast then gets out, but even then it drags a bit, particularly at Charlie's constant attempts to woo Eve back which seem to come to no avail. Worth a look if you're interested in logistics of a relationship, but if you're looking for a straight love story, this ain't it.
