While people are celebrating something, Redux Friday unleashes more reheated goodies.

The Jammed was the little film that could back in 2007, a film that couldn't get a distributor here in Australia, so the producers decided to have a two week showing on one screen in Melbourne (to which I went to) before the DVD release. Then, it got good word of mouth and most of the session were sold out (it took 3 attempts before I could get in). But, that's all moot now as it showed up on TV a few weeks back, so now there's some high quality videos.

Next up is some redone stuff from Romper Stomper, which when released on widescreen DVD unveiled a sex scene that showed a little more than expected. It could be said that one of the sex scenes is real and as the two involved were apparently a couple at the time, you do the math... It is also the film where Russell Crowe discovered 'sturm und drang' and he has never looked back.

Finally, some redone videos from the long forgotten Australian comedy, You and Your Stupid Mate, when Madeleine West was blonde and Australia was still making dopey comedies. Now, I'd kill for an Australian comedy, they barely exist at the moment.

Update for 21 December...

Ah fuck it, then fuck it again.

Just when I thought I'd cracked the way of making videos from Bluray disks along comes the Cedar Boys disk and it becomes impossible again. It took me 2 and a half days to work it out and even then I dunno. Anyway, there's full 1080p video and caps of Rachael Taylor from Cedar Boys (including the nip-slip) below.

That's not to say that the Cedar Boys Bluray disk is completely fucked. All who made it should be sacked ;)

Anyway, I made my thoughts on Cedar Boys back when I saw it in the cinema (I wasn't a fan), but apparently I'm alone in this opinion. As a fan of thrillers, I found this film uninspiring except for when they were explaining what they were doing, which is quite good. And that ending is beyond awful... Whatever... And I didn't notice that nip-slip when I saw it in the cinema (although it is only a few frames). My eyes must be going on me.

Then Rachael's nipples disappears in Ghost Machine. She should get that checked out.

Anyway, Ghost Machine is about a ghost that enters in a military simulation that is illegally run in an abandoned prison and of course it starts killing everyone. A pretty disappointing film with some head scratching moments, like the disappearing nipples and how Rachael Taylor has a British accent, yet Luke Ford keeps his Australian accent (and Sean Faris his American accent). And how an unconscious mind can be put into a virtual reality. Meh...

It's just a festival of Rachael Taylor at the moment as Headland is being replayed on 7Two at the moment and I should have some (low quality) videos soon, but I've got a fair bit of catching up to do before that happens.

For fuck sake, end Redux Friday...

Going back into the archives and redoing some old series and putting some decent quality videos that may not have been previously available.

Horseplay is another forgotten Australian film (and there's so many) and one that won't be caught up in the Ozploitation craze either (and man there's some that should've stayed forgotten. Did I just see Blood Moon is getting a DVD release? The barrel just hit bottom... What next, Dead Sleep with Linda Blair?). This romp, set around the Melbourne Cup horse race has a pretty decent cast, but isn't really funny and ends in an utterly ridiculous way. Abbie Cornish kicked on from here, everyone else though... I don't think Tushka Bergen has done anything since, which is a shame. Remember her in Metropolitan, damn she was good in that.

Bad Manners was the second movie I capped and I've gotta admit, I didn't think I'd see it again, but 8 years later, it gets a late night repeat (and would you believe, it's on Sunday night again). Something about college friends meeting up years later or something. For the completists only...

Finally, Feed is one of the most repulsive Australian films ever (and that's saying something!) about an ugly detective who is obsessively chasing a man who is feeding a morbidly obese woman to death. One of the more head scratching things about this film is that the setting seems to change. Is it set in America or Australia? Why are Australian cops investigating an American crime? What's up with the accents? etc. There really isn't anything redeeming about this film and the lead character is such an ugly person that you just wish the killer would finish him off.

I'm miles behind with everything at the moment and I don't know how it happened. That means I haven't got around to capping Cedar Boys with Rachael Taylor (and the nip slip) or a bunch of TV shows. I think I might chase up the Bluray of Cedar Boys (the first non-studio Australian film to go onto Bluray), although at over $40 it's pretty expensive. Also, making videos from the Bluray of Into The Blue made me lose at least two days. What a shitty transfer that Bluray is.

Update for 6 December...

As I said last up, I'm just going through a few DVDs that have been sitting on my hard drive for a fair while.

Tortured is a film that so desperately wants to be The Usual Suspects, but it has way too many twists and most of them are way too unbelievable to be memorable. That's not to say it's not watchable, just aims for way too much. Emmanuelle Chriqui provides the eye candy and adds another side-boob scene to her collection which must now mean she's the biggest tease, surpassing Leelee Sobieski. This film is just all sorts of frustrating...

American Son is a surprisingly good drama about a man who is on 4 day leave from the marines and hooks up with his family and friends and meets a girl and falls for her. He also finds that he has well and truly moved on from his home town. I wouldn't expect much from a film starring Nick Cannon, but this film really surprises.

Phantom Punch is a film about professional boxer Sonny Liston, who time has not being kind to. Neither is this film, but hey, when has a boxing bio=pic ended well. Pretty much a forgettable film touching on the usual subjects and quite ugly at times. Meh...

In My Sleep is a tricky little film about a sleepwalker who may have killed a his best friend's girlfriend, who he was sleeping with behind his back. As he struggles to recollect events, he also tries to find out the reason he started sleepwalking to begin with. Interesting film, although the killer is fairly obvious.

Adulthood is a follow up to the British film Kidulthood with pretty much the same characters, but this time set 6 years on after the Sam has been released from prison. He wants to move on, but Jay, now following his destined path from the original as a drug dealer wants revenge. Set pretty much over one day like the first film and is just as rough of the original, but a more mature film at the same time.

Redux Friday just won't die

While it's a bit quiet on the new film front, it's time to roll out some better quality stuff from old series.

While I have capped True Blood from Bluray (shit, I've gotta cap the rest of that now...), The Hills Have Eyes is my first movie from Bluray. The quality is astonishing compared to DVD, particularly in dark scenes, where it will be it's real advantage for my capping. Thought I'd revisit it just to make better quality videos because the ones on the video page are from a DVDRip and found myself making some caps as well, even though I'm not that unhappy with the original ones. Look out for more Bluray stuff in the near future. I just picked up Into The Blue... that's gonna take a while.

You'll find both HD videos and a higher quality normal sized video from those who can't play the HQ stuff.

I've had a couple of gos at Praise beck in the day and I remember the full screen video defintiely showing more in the 'eating out' scene, but I don't have those videos (and they'd be extremely low quality anyway), so it's back to the ancient DVD release. The film is a tough watch, but I actually quite enjoyed it and Sacha was a breakout star of the film. Hadn't seen the male lead, Peter Fenton in a while, then he popped up in All Saints recently. Makes me wonder if the ABC will ever replay his too cool for school TV show, Love is a Four Letter Word, which has never been seen again after it first screened in 2001, yet they bash the massively overrated flop Wildside to death (now it's on DVD, who the fuck's gonna buy it?). Had some great women in that show like Kate Beahan and Leeanna Walsman. Made in a time when the ABC couldn't do anything right. Remember Dog's Head Bay, the worst thing ever made in Australia. Alright, this rant is over.

Also, have redone the videos for The Oyster Farmer (with a pre-Satisfaction Diana Glenn, shame she and Peta Sergeant ain't in the new series startring this week) and Caótica Ana with Manuela Vellés, who I could look at all day.

In the next update, I will be going through some stuff that's clogging up the hard drive, so there might be the odd gem in there.
