Spanish update for 29 July...

Antes de Morir Piensa en Mí is a drama about a woman who is on trial for killing her former lover and throughout the film, we follow the woman, who is in a relationship with an older man. Of course, she gets bored with her husband, so she finds an younger lover and then things get messed up fast. Nothing new here, but who cares right?

So, here ends the Spanish update which ended up being a lot bigger than expected, It was also much more successful than I expected, so I hope you enjoyed it too. Back to, well, normal programming, whatever that is... I've watched a few Australian 'classics' in the past few days, so there will be some of those as well.

Spanish update for 28 July...

The penultimate Spanish update.

7 Vírgenes (eh, 7 Virgins) is a coming of age film about a kid, Tano, who gets a weekend pass from juvy to go to his brother's wedding, except he uses the time to live it up with his friends and girlfriend. But, as the weekend unfolds, he finds that his world has changed from what he once knew. They have all grown up a little and he will have to do a fair bit of growing up himself before the weekend is over. An OK, but seen it all before film, that is again enhanced by another great performance by Juan José Ballesta.

One more tomorrow and this one's very obscure...

Spanish update for 26 July...

I've had to delay this update a day because surprisingly (OK, perhaps it's the girl-girl stuff) the Eloïse update was a big success. Anyway as promised, here's another Spanish update with Adriana Ugarte.

Castillos de Cartón (Paper Castles) is about 3 art student friends, 2 men and a woman, who decide one day to have a threesome. It goes better than expected and after a while it becomes a regular thing. But, there are complications. One man cannot get it up and the woman has never had an orgasm, so they decide to rectify this. Once done, further complications occur which will put a strain on the unusual relationship. Yeah, it sounds like a porn film, but it ain't, hell it ain't even that much of a arty porn movie, just a story with a fair bit of sex. The film doesn't really have much to add to the usual relationship complications movie, but hey the Spanish sure know how to pour their movies full of sex.

Spanish update for 24 July...

I almost forgot that I'm heading towards the end of the Spanish update. Time to go back for the second of the girl-girl series.

Eloïse is about a university student Àsia (Diana Gómez), who is hit by a car and is in a coma in hospital. We go back a while and see Àsia who is a star student and just got her first boyfriend, then one day she sees an ad for an artist's model and decides to go for it. It turns out the artist is Eloïse (Ariadna Cabrol), the 'freak' who her friends tease. After early apprehension, she gives in and becomes friends with her and then those strange feelings begin. Next thing you know, they've spent a rainy night together. Nothing really new here, but still a fairly solid romantic drama. Ah, lesbian dramas, where would this site be without them?

Redux Thursday that thinks it's a Friday...

Caught in the hub-bub over the After.Life updates, I've had to delay any further updates as the site has been at the tipping point with 3 biggest days ever. Hope you enjoyed the After.Life stuff.

Now that I can capture from Bluray again, it's time to get a few Bluray series out there. First up is a request from the recently released Bluray of Keeping Mum. Man, I had a look at the old videos and they are small and for the video camera scenes, not easy to make out. The video camera stuff is a little better here, but still it's off the viewfinder, so it ain't perfect. And the nudity is extremely brief too. Apparently, Tamsin has some more brief nudity in 4. 3. 2. 1, so will have a look at that when it comes around.

Still got a handful of Spanish updates to get out there and that will start happening over the weekend.

Update for 15-16 July...

Taking a brief break from the Spanish update for an important edition (I s'pose). Plenty of Christina Ricci nudity.

After.Life is a disturbing film that is about a distant school teacher (Christina Ricci) who dies in a car accident, then wakes up at the mortuary. But, is she alive? According to the mortician (Liam Neeson), she ain't, it's just her soul that hasn't accepted death as yet, much to his chagrin. Meanwhile, her boyfriend (Justin Long, who seems to get all the babes in films for some bizarre reason) thinks she is very much alive. And then there's the requisite kid that can see dead people or animals. And the film is a bit of a mess and feels more like a more menacing episode of Ghost Whisperer, but instead of Jennifer Love Hewitt and her cleavage, we get Christina Ricci naked or in a red slip. Hmm... no complaints here.

Also, I must tell you that Christina Ricci spends 90% of the film dead, so watch out below for some ugly stuff.

As you may have seen if you have visited the site in the last 24 hours, you would have seen that I put out a request to donate some money towards getting the After.Life Bluray. Well, I was expecting to have this up tomorrow, but because I got enough early interest to satisfy me that the goal would be reached, so I went down and got the Bluray earlier than expected.

So, after 5 hours of making videos and reacquainting myself in how to make videos of a Bluray disk (I'm a bit rusty, the last time I did it was for Cedar Boys back in December), it's here, all HD videos. And a little something extra, some 211 HD raw caps.

~~Spanish~~ Mexican update for 13 July...

Back to Mexico today with a Y Tu Mama Tambien reunion.

Rudo y Cursi is a comedy about two brothers (Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna) from the country who are talent spotted by a big city football scout and are placed in opposing city clubs. Their transition into city life is helped by being successful but both brothers will come across hardship as they head to the deciding game where they play against each other, one on the brink of being dropped to the reserves and the other one game away from the keeping shut out record. The film gets by through the charismatic leads who work extremely well together, but the film is just your stock standard fish-out-of-water comedy. And bizarrely, there's a complete lack of football for a film about footballers. Hmmmm...

And speaking of Y Tu Mama Tambien, it seems it has been released on Bluray here. Might have to check it out again...

~~Spanish~~ Argentine update for 12 July...

I haven't capped many Argentinean films over my 9 years (can't believe it's been 9 years - on the 26th - since my first cap, wow!), so here we go.

El Niño Pez (The Fish Child) is about a maid (Mariela Vitale aka popstar Emme) who is having an affair with both the father and the daughter (Inés Efron) of the house but is more interested in the daugther. Then, the father, a high ranking judge, is murdered, presumably by the girls and while the maid is taking the heat for it, the daughter runs away to the maid's old home waiting for her, until the maid is arrested for the murder. She then comes back to town to take the rap for the murder and free her girlfriend. Except it doesn't quite go to plan. Very interesting drama/thriller with a great lead performance from Inés Efron, who was also great in XXY.

Oh and there's some good girl-girl stuff. I've promised some more and that will happen later in the week.

Spanish update for 11 July...

Let's go back to Spain today.

7 Minutes is a romantic comedy Spanish style, meaning it's peppered with way more sex and nudity than you would get in any romantic comedy coming out of Hollywood. Doesn't mean it's any better though. Basically, a group of people enter a speed dating session looking for love, but the session doesn't necessarily gather love in the right places. There's the socially inept woman who is tracked down by a hard man and she falls for him despite first impressions. There's the football coach who immediately hits it off with the violinist, but their relationship dissolves and he falls for her friend, who is very married... except her husband is cheating on her with the maid. Then there's the apparently gay man who is struggling to find out if he is really straight. OK film, but nothing new here. Some nice nudity though.

La Última Mirada (The Final Gaze) is about two disparate people who find themselves together at a brothel. The woman has been left to fend for herself after her parents die, and has to work as a maid at a brothel while the man is an artist who is going blind, finally only making out red. I think you can make out from the caps and videos below how they end up meeting. I'd love to say how I felt about the film, but it is six months since I've watched it and I can barely remember it...

~~Spanish~~ Mexican update for 8 July...

Let's keep going with the Mexican updates.

Amor, Dolor y Viceversa or Violanchelo or Love, Pain and Vice Versa is a film that reaches high, but falls on it's own sword. Consuelo (the incredibly gorgeous Bárbara Mori) is living in her own fantasy world where she is in love with the perfect guy, a doctor who may or may not be real. So, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find him for real, so she files a rape claim against him, giving the police a detailed description of his face and hoping they will find him for her. And they do, in a most unusual way. And then the doctor wakes up from his dream... Interesting idea told from both Consuelo's and the doctor's perspective, but falls flat in the second half when it gives away far too much information early and it feels like a repeat of what we already know. Shame really, I liked the idea.

~~Spanish~~ Mexican update for 7 July...

Over to Mexico for the next few updates.

Amar A Morir is about a young turk who gets involved in a high speed car crash in which he kills his friend, so he runs away and finds a coastal town to lay low, but that is dashed when he spies a pretty girl and they fall in love, except she's the daughter of the local crime boss and you can guess the rest. Pretty stock standard love story, but the strangest thing about this film is that Craig McLachlan of Home and Away and Neighbours fame turns up as a surfer dude with his broad Australian accent and has quite a big role in the film. I couldn't believe my eyes...

Just watched an Australian film Savages Crossing and he sings at least 5 songs on the soundtrack. I couldn't believe my ears...

Spanish update for 6 July...

More quick series of the Spanish variety today.

Cabeza de Perro is about a teenage boy with a brain disease who after blacking out in the back of a van, wakes up and finds that he's in Madrid, and all alone, so he floats between various people he meets looking for a place to stay and for people who he can connect with. He meets a girl, who he becomes friendly with, and he gets a job as a elderly care helper, where he meets an old man who suffers from Alzheimer's and forms a bond with him, allowing him to stay at his place. A very watchable film, made moreso by another charismatic lead performance by Juan José Ballesta, who must be the next big thing to come out of Spain.

Just watched Adriana Ugarte in another film, Castillos de Cartón, not surprisingly retitled as 3some, which should appear over the coming week. She has plenty of nudity in that film. Also have capped her before in the last Spanish update from the film El Patio de mi Cárcel (with full frontal nudity), which you can see here.

Spanish update for 5 July...

Another quickie today.

Salvador (Puig Antich) is about a famous anarchists/freedom fighter during the Franco years in Spain. Basically, the film follows his life from small time bank robber with a cause to when he was executed in the 70s. He was popular amongst those striving for a democratic Spain. Wow, Spanish filmmakers sure love sinking the boots into the Franco regime (and with good reason) and this one doesn't pull any punches either.

Spanish update for 4 July...

Here we go again for the biannual Spanish/Mexican, hell even Argentinean update. Actually, a quick check has it that this time last year was the last Spanish update. So, it's time for a big one. Today, we start with a one of my long time faves Elena Anaya.

Hierro is a Spanish thriller about a mother (Elena Anaya) whose young son disappears on the ferry ride to El Hierro, an island in the Canary Islands. As a result, the mother develops a phobia in which she's afraid to go into water. A while later, she returns to the island to look for her son and a body is found, but the mother denies that it is her son, even though in all appearances it is her son. So, she continues to look and discovers something that he may very be alive. While the film is your standard mysterious disappearance film, it is enjoyable enough and held together quite well by Elena who has to carry the entire film. But, there is nothing new here, not even the twist.

Semen, Una Historia de Amor (a rather subtle title...) is about a nerdy bloke who works as a doctor at an artificial insemination clinic who falls for a trapeze artist whoi comes to the clinic to be inseminated. But, attempts at doing so are botched, so the doctor decides that he is going to have to do it himself. She gets pregnant and they fall in love, except it turns out that she is the surrogate for her twin sister and that's where the fun begins and ends. Yeah, it's one those movies, an annoying comedy sub-genre involving insemination (isn't there a film with Jennifer Aniston coming out soon with a similar plot) that is just well, icky. Enough with them already, geez...
