Update for 24 August...

One more new Australian movie.

Bad Girl is a teen thriller where troubled young girl Amy (Sara West) is forced to uproot to the country by her adopted parents Michelle and Peter (Felicity Price and Ben Winspear) and she is not too happy about it. They meet the neighbours, who suggest that Amy meets their lovely daughter Chloe (Samara Weaving) and a little later she arrives and offers her services to clean their house. Amy wants out and that night, spraypaints 'Sayonara' on the windows and waits for her city friends to pick her up, but they don't come. Amy has drunken herself into a stupor and ends up on the edge of bridge and almost falls when she is startled by Chloe, but Chloe helps her up. They form a friendship which involves Chloe helping Amy find her biological parents and stealing a car for a joyride, but soon their friendship becomes something more one night when they break into a motel room. Amy has a reason to stay, but there's something not quite right about Chloe and Amy is alerted to this when a detective comes to the door looking for a girl named Jessica who looks exactly like Chloe. She then finds out that the neighbour's girl isn't the Chloe she knows and confronts 'Chloe' about this and 'Chloe' takes Amy to a caravan where she's been squatting and shows her an ultrasound to prove that she is actually the daughter of Michelle and Peter. To which 'Chloe' bashes Amy and attempts to kill her and then usurp Amy as Michelle and Peter's child. Can Amy survives and save her adopted family before 'Chloe' causes more havoc. OK but fairly stock standard stalker thriller despite playing slightly with convention by making the 'good girl' a troubled teen instead of someone who's perfect. Although a limited actress, Samara Weaving is quite good as the crazy bad girl play acting the angel, playing against type which works well for her here while Sara West is also good. Not bad and worth a look if you're into these types of movies (which I am), but not exactly essential either.

Here's hoping that the scene below where apparently Samara is swimming naked in the pool is her, but if I was to guess, I'd say it's not her. Having said that, there's no credited body double, so who knows...

Update for 23 August...

Three more quick updates from newly released Australian movies.

Peculiarly, Cage Dive was annexed into the dormant Open Water franchise, probably because it very similar to the original movie. Three Americans have been listed as missing for a week before a camera believed to be owned by them is found. Brothers Jeff (Joel Hogan) and Josh (Josh Potthoff) and Jeff's girlfriend Megan (Megan Peta Hill) are filming an audition for a reality TV show about people doing extreme stunts, so they come to Australia for holiday but specifically to go to Adelaide/South Australia to film them cage diving with sharks. But disaster strikes and the boat is hit by a huge wave and everyone on board now desperately cling to life with sharks circling. Apparently, as for about half-an-hour we don't see much of anything as the camera barely shows anything comprehensible. I'm assuming they all died, but I can't be sure. At barely 70 minutes, this is a very forgettable movie, check out the far superior The Reef if you want a decent Australian shark movie where you actually see stuff, hell The Shallows is also worth a look and it was filmed in Australia. Fucking found footage movies, why hasn't this dodgy concept died yet?

The Tail Job is a comedy thriller where Nicholas (Blair Dwyer) believes his girlfriend Mona (Laura Hughes) is cheating on him and he intercepts an incriminating text to her from a Siobhan, who he mistakenly believes is a man named Sio Bohan (this is one tenuous concept...). So when Mona goes out, Nicholas decides to follow her and flags down a taxi driven by Trevor (Craig Anderson) who is very invested in helping Nicholas bring down his 'cheating' girlfriend, mainly because of the money he's able to milk from Nicholas. He gets help from Mona's overattentive friend Stacey (Kellie Clarke), who has her own motives for bringing down Mona, namely to be with Nicholas. At a strip club, they ask about Sio Bohan and it turns out that there is actually a man named Sio Bohan and he's actually a notorious gangster who owns the strip club (well, if you have a tenuous concept you might as well run with it). So, they track Sio hoping to find Mona, but they find themselves going headlong into danger. Can they survive the night? High concept comedy, and then some, that's only occasionally funny and is a victim of it's own preposterous concept particularly when the truth is rather tossed off as nothing. If you're going to go with a silly concept, there needs to be more focus on the laughs and there just isn't enough to make The Tail Job work. Not terrible, just not that good.

Alvin's Harmonious World of Opposites is an indie fantasy comedy (of sorts) where Alvin (Teik Kim Pok) is a shut-in comfortable in staying in his flat forever while working at home and his only human contact being his friend on video phone and his highly obnoxious neighbour Virginia (Vashti Hughes). When Virginia calls the real estate agent about the so-called bugs that have infiltrated her place, which she blames on the 'slut' downstairs, Alvin's world is turned upside down. Alvin tells the inspector that there's a brown sludge coming from his ceiling, but he seems to be the only one to see it. He is told that the place needs to be thoroughly inspected and he has to move out for a a week, which startled housebound Alvin. He then decides to check for himself where the so-called sludge is coming from and finds a hidden house that is inhabited by a small woman Vilna (Dessy Fitri), who seems to be in another country. He finally decided to meet her, but accidentally sets her house of fire and destroys it. Vilna then takes Alvin to a factory inhabited by more little people and they develop a friendship. Or something. I'm completely baffled by what went on after he finds the house. The woman seems to speak an incomprehensible language I'm not even sure is real and for a good half-an-hour I had no idea what was going on. Ah well...

Update for 22 August...

A couple of new Australian movies today, both feauturing but not starring up-and-coming actress Mitzi Ruhlmann.

Killing Ground is a thriller where young couple Ian and Sam (Ian Meadows and Harriet Dyer) are going on a camping trip during the new year. At the camping ground they are going to there is already a family camping there with parents Margaret and Rob (Maya Stange and Julian Garner) and teenage daughter Em (Tiarnie Coupland) and a young child. Also, two hunter friends German and Chook (Aaron Pedersen and Aaron Glenane) are skulking around, looking for women to fuck. After spending the night at the camping ground, something seems very off. Margaret and Rob's tent looks abandoned and German and Chook have entered the area and have their eye on Em. Also, Ian and Sam find the young child crying and wandering around confused. They bump into German and Chook and they help them look for the child's parents, but what they find will turn everything upside down. Fairly decent thriller but has an unusual time structure which does make the movie confusing for about 20 minutes when two key scenes are played out simultaneously despite happening at different times. While there's some disturbing scenes in the movie, most of the extreme violence is not shown but it's still feels disturbing mainly because the violence is shown in a matter-of-fact manner. Worth a look if you're into nasty thrillers.

Boys In The Trees is a teen drama set on Halloween 1997 which is also the last day of high school for Corey (Toby Wallace) and his group of skateboarding friends including Jango (Justin Holborow). The group are going out for Halloween, mainly out drinking and playing up. Along the way, Corey meets up with Romany (Mitzi Ruhlmann), a girl he has a crush on despite she being Jango's girlfriend and the feeling may be mutual. Also, Corey sees Jonah (Gulliver McGrath) at the skateboarding park, a former friend who he now watches get bullied by his friends and they begin to talk and hang out together. As they walk around town, they swap local ghost stories and begin to rekindle their lost friendship, but something is lingering that will make this night the last they'll ever speak to each other. Hmm, I found this movie to be fairly boring for the most part as I had no real interest in the stories they told and I didn't really care for the two former friends. I don't really know what this movie is trying to achieve apart from a bunch of kids on the edge of the precipice of adulthood as a fair portion of the movie is two former friends talking about their fears through the ghost stories that aren't that interesting. Disappointing...

Just a quick word about the Cherry Pearce scene from Killing Ground below. She plays a body double for Tiarnie Coupland's character (and is credited as such) and spends her entire scene time with her pants pulled down to reveal her bottom to suggest that she'd been raped and we never see her face (for obvious reasons). Also in the scene, Maya Stange is seen with her shorts pulled down and possibly shows her bush as they drag her over to a tree, the scene is shot from a distance which makes it hard to see even in HD. Also. I've been thinking about it since I've posted it, but that Heather Matarazzo scene from Hostel Part 2 may also be a body double whenever you see her bottom. Something about the way that scene is shot makes me think that a double was used for any back view. I'd like to be wrong though. And that Nicole da Silva scene from Doctor Doctor I posted the other day is clearly a body double and so was that nude swimming scene from the very first episode. Come on, she's never done a nude scene as has always looked reluctant to do so.

The last of the horror movies updates, well, maybe. Earlier in the year I did a few updates where I did a redux of a movie and then I would also cap its prequel/sequel which I'd never capped before. Here's another one of those updates this time of the Hostel series. I capped the second movie 10 years ago and now for the first time I've capped the original which has a fair bit of nudity in the first 25 minutes before the torture begins. There's also a 3rd movie that went straight-to-DVD here and I've never seen it, might get around to it, although it looks incredibly low rent.

Also, what's up with the new ending to the first Hostel movie? Absolutely terrible and makes no sense with what happens in the sequel. What were they thinking...

Update for 15 August...

More horror movies, somewhat more well known movies/actresses. Dead Canyon looks like it was shot on a discarded camera they found just before shooting as it's grainy as hell. FearDotCom is from that period of time when everything on the Internet was evil so movies were based on people dying by going to some website. They'll all pretty terrible but FearDotCom is not only terrible but fairly sleazy, how this got a cinema release is one of the great bafflers. Now those movies have been replaced with the social media stalker movie. Same movie, similarly terrible. Dracula 2000 dates itself by having a whole bunch of badly done wire stunts and there's one scene below (the first Colleen Fitzpatrick video) where the perspective is so bad, I've been mesmerised by how bad it is. The cast is full of actors who are either fairly big stars today (totally forgot Gerard Butler is Dracula) or pretty much forgotten (Justine Waddell is the female lead, hasn't been in anything for years). Also has that Wes Craven seal of approval which means he got the cheque and even he wouldn't make a film this limp.

Got some more horror to come.

Just clearing up some stuff that's just sitting around with not much to do at the moment, so here's 3 horror movies, mostly low rent stuff but when have ever turned down a terrible horror movie before... The quality of the 30 Days To Die videos isn't great despite being in HD as the original source wasn't the best. It's particularly evident in one video also there are interlacing issues. Also gotta love that Lina Esco is credited as Ivanna Keelu, a rare highlight for a really awful movie.

Today's update features a couple of movies from 2000, the heist thriller Reindeer Games and the sleazy invisible man remake Hollow Man. Both movies below are Director's Cut editions although I don't think there's anything extra to cap from Reindeer Games, there's a couple of extra things in Hollow Man including some extra shots in the Rhona Mitra nude/rape scene.
