Update for 25 June...

Another 90s update, a real wild selection today.

Space Truckers is a space adventure movie where Dennis Hopper, Stephen Dorff and Debi Mazar escape space police and Hopper's former boss George Wendt (who has one great scene involving him being sucked through a small hole and if you know who he is, you'll know what a feat that is) by transporting a high risk load that is apparently sex dolls but turn out to be killer robots. When they get jacked by space pirates, all hell breaks loose. It's like a B grade Guardians of the Galaxy but clearly shot on the cheap in a studio and less wacky characters although Charles Dance's DIY rebuild is pretty wacky. And for some reason Debi Mazar spends over half-an-hour of the movie in her underwear (including some occasion nip-slip action) and is pretty much the only female cast member for most of the movie save for a Barbara Crampton cameo at the end because it's a Stuart Gordon movie and we need a remembrance of Re-Animator. Remember Space Truckers going straight-to-video in Australia so I'm baffled as to why there's a pretty crisp Bluray of this movie. Pretty fun movie but B grade all the way and definitely more fun than that second Guardians movie.

Kounterfeit is a revenge thriller where Hilary Swank attempts to get revenge on the people who killed her undercover cop brother, which she also witnessed. She's put into witness protection, but goes about trying to kill Bruce Payne (with amazing hair that's almost like a character in itself), a strip club owner who with his bumbling buddy were a part of the deal gone wrong. But it turns out that Payne didn't kill Swank's brother but it was his corrupt cop buddies who are supposedly protecting Swank (including Michael Gross in a Sometimes They Come Back... Again reunion with Hilary Swank). Pretty solid thriller but barely takes itself seriously including one scene where a young Ben Foster turns up and is proves that he was every bit as exhausting as a kid as he is in movies today. I had the fullscreen DVD of the movie lying around, but found a HD screen copy, but there is a couple of fullscreen DVD scenes also included as they showed more including in the tame shower scene where you see that Hilary or her possible double was wearing underpants not seen in the widescreen version.

Not much from A Low Down Dirty Shame, Salli Richardson-Whitfield looks pretty good in a couple of scenes but surely the movie for her most cappable stuff is Posse, which would fit perfectly in the 90s update. I need to find a HD copy of that movie...

Another bunch of 90s movies. I remember seeing Crash (also called Breach Of Trust) back in the day, but could never remember what it was called, but I did remember that Leilani Sarelle in it and a couple completely unnecessary but welcome sex scene. Pretty straight forward B movie, surprised that it's remembered at all. Never seen Striking Distance and man it's a total B movie with A list cast, every beat as predictable as the last except maybe for the least likely police officer ever in Sarah Jessica Parker.

Update for 4 June...

The 90s updates continue unabated with today's update featuring the 1997 sex comedy Booty Call, a terrible movie that barely lasts 75 minutes and has a plot so paper thin it might as well not have one. Basically, two guys and two women go on a double date which ends with both couples going off to have sex, but one woman won't have sex without protection and her bloke must take his friend away from his sex to get condoms, then the right condoms and then plastic wrap so that he can go down on her safely (???). Then the poor bloke gets shot and almost has his dick cut off at the hospital. Eventually both couples have sex but by then nobody cares. I watched Booty Call with an open mind despite only really knowing how it wasn't much loved, but I wasn't prepared for how frustratingly banal this movie is. The condom/protection part of the movie goes on and on with barely a joke and the movie is only 75 minutes. Then they the two men inexplicably wrap themselves in plastic wrap in what was one of the most baffling things I've ever seen. There are very few laughs throughout and there's a strange obsession with Asian people bordering on racist (that's probably a bit generous to be honest) and aged even worse when Jamie Foxx starts doing his Bill Cosby having sex impression which is jawdropping in light of recent events. Fuck, this is one helluva movie to see for the first time...

Update for 2 June...

Inevitably, the 90s update would veer into something that I would recap from an old series and here's the first of them from the 1997 pick-up 'comedy' Def Jam's How To Be A Player. So, here we are 16 years after I first capped the movie off a VHS tape with a HD copy. I can't remember why I capped the movie in the first place as it's not usually a movie I would've watched back in the day and I remember hating the movie. Plenty to cap, particularly from Mari Morrow, but man the movie is a real stinker. I still can't get over why his friends would wait for him in the car while the 'player' had his way with numerous women. Maybe if there were some laughs in the movie which you'd expect there would be from something produced by Def Jam, but the attempts at laughs are dire, even Bernie Mac is useless in the face of nothing to work with. Terrible, but at least there's some fine women to look at...
