Update for 31 December...

A couple of movies to end the year. Saw Rosa Salazar in The Scorch Trials recently and thought I might check out what else she's done and she's in this two hander Night Owls, a pretty good little movie about the one night stand from hell when one of the people involved decides to down a bottle of pills and kill themselves. Turns out the woman has back story that only makes the man get into more trouble as more is revealed. Eventually they fall for each other. I liked it quite a bit more than I was expecting plus a nice little nude scene from Rosa was another unexpected delight. Eden is a seen it all before survival on a deserted island drama where some of a championship football team plus some hangers on survive a plane crash (too bad if you have nothing to do with the team...) and left isolated in the middle of nowhere. Of course the team can't act like a team when put in this situation so between infighting and sabotage the remaining survivors start thinning in number and tension rises between two fractured groups. Such a shame the coach didn't survive, he could've brought everyone together and got them working towards certain goals. As is, Eden is more of the same except there's no cannibalism (shouldn't we expect this with football teams...) and way too obvious things happen. Should've at least been interesting, nope, just boring.

Hoping to have a New Year's update tomorrow, still working on it. It'll be another redo of a bunch of Australian movies, this time focusing on one actress.

Update for 26 December...

Don't cap many French movies as they are done well elsewhere, but this one was too hard to resist.

La Dame dans l'auto avec des Lunettes et un Fusil is a 70s set thriller where a young lady named Dany (Freya Mavor) gets a job working for Michel (Benjamin Biolay) as his secretary. Things go well and she starts working from his home which he share with his wife Anita (Stacy Martin) and their daughter. Dany is a dreamer and wants to be a cool girl and while working for Michel, she starts to see this happening and becomes fascinated with Michel's Thunderbird. One day Dany is asked to come along with Michel, Anita and their daughter to drop them off at the airport as they are taking a trip. Left alone with the car, Dany finds it irresistible to take the car and go on a long drive to live out her fantasies. At a petrol station, she attracts attention from the men there, but while in the toilet, she is attacked, resulting in a sprained wrist. But something strange also happens. She is accused of making it up by one of the workers there as a woman who looks exactly like her had the exact same thing happen to her a week earlier. Perplexed, Dany moves on nonetheless and stops off at a motel where she is accosted by an Italian man Stefano (Elio Germano) who see then sleeps with. The next morning while on an outing Stefano tricks Dany and ends up stealing the Thunderbird. Dany manages to flag down a truck driver who saw her at the petrol station and he puts a call out to other truck drivers about the car. The car is found, but now it has a dead body in the boot and Stefano is not amused by this. Who is trying to set Dany up for murder and why? I think this may be the 3rd version of this movie made as I remember watching the 70s English version, but this new French movie does OK in creating that 70s French vibe, but I've always found the plot a little to preposterous for its own good. The plot makes a lot of leaps of faith to make you believe what is happening the Dany and it's explanation in this version is really out there. I like the idea of Dany being a dreamer wanting something more and going out and getting it, but everything after that must be seen with caution. At least there's sexy Freya Mavor from Skins and Nymphomaniac's Stacy Martin to keep the film rolling along.

Update for 24 December...

All About E is a drama about E (Mandahla Rose), an up-and-coming Sydney DJ who constantly annoys her boss Johnny Rock (Simon Bolton) with her 'playing by her own rules' attitude. The next morning, E is woken up by her gay Irish flatmate Matt (Brett Rogers) to celebrate his birthday, but finds a bag with a large sum of money in it. Turns out the money is Johnny Rock's who's planning a bit drug deal but instead of returning the money to where they found it (which they don't know), E and Matt go on the run with their newly gained wealth. Good thing too as Johnny Rock is pissed and is going through E's friends trying to find her. After stopping off at E's parent's house, Johnny Rock tracks them down, so E and Matt go on the road to Melbourne, but as Matt is sleeping E gets an idea to go to her former flame Trish's (Julia Billington) farm in Hay as she has been thinking of her. But Trish is very unhappy about E's arrival as they parted on bad terms, but agrees to let E and Matt stay for a few days. Over those few days, E and Trish begin to connect again, but by now Johnny Rock has figured out where E might be and is hot on her trail. OK drama/thriller that has issues in the acting department although Mandahla Rose is quite good as E and gives the character a fair amount of depth beyond her introduction as someone who'll sleep with any woman. The movie works best when focusing on the E and Trish angle as the thriller angle seems to drag on until it can all come together in the end, even with an interesting character in Johnny Rock. At least the movie is interesting the entire time with the dual story lines keeping the move from being boring. Plus there's a lengthy lesbian sex scene, which is always a plus. All About E has limitations, but is not a bad watch.

Australian Classics Redux for 22 December...

Still more Australian movies this time with 3 movies from 1999-2000 and one from 2004. Passion is the story of early 20th century celebrated Australian pianist Percy Grainger who had a very complicated relationship with women, particularly his mother. Pretty good movie, particularly the acting, but I wasn't entirely into the subject and don't know a whole lot about Grainger. Seemed to like flagellation... The Wog Boy is a comedy based on the based on the popular comedy act of Nick Giannopoulos (who also made the slightly better misfire The Wannabes, see below) about a dole bludging pick-up artist of Greek origin who is used as a pawn by a grandstanding politician and under the eye of the politician's reluctant press secretary. Fans only stuff (and there's plenty of them even considering the 10 year later sequel was also a hit), broad as hell and a ludicrous plot but not without some laughs, seen a lot worse. Fresh Air and The Road From Coorain I barely remember. I think Fresh Air is about 3 struggling artists trying to find their way. The Road From Coorain was a telemovie about... yeah I don't remember, something about a farm perhaps...

So, Emily Woof and Juliet Stevenson are British actress, remember Emily getting a lot of work in the late 90s, early 00s, mostly notably The Full Monty and Velvet Goldmine also that Delroy Lindo cricket movie Wonderous Oblivion, but has barely been seen lately. Seems to have written a couple of novels too. Bridie Carter is in the hit show 800 Words, Claudia Karvan and Lucy Bell is seen fairly regularly in movies and TV. Abi Tucker doesn't do a lot of acting any more, didn't realise she turned up in Old School recently, missed that. Katherine Slattery now works in the production side of the industry and sadly Georgie Shew doesn't act any more.

Below, you will see that there are two versions of The Wog Boy videos, in widescreen and fullscreen. Some videos show a little bit more depending on the version, but nothing dramatically different. Fresh Air was capped from a VHS rip, so it's quality is a tad down. Doesn't help that a fair bit of the movie is seen through video footage from memory.

Have quite a few more to do, but need to put in some work, so that might not happen for a while. I'll try a have one more Australian Classic Redux update before the end of the year, all featuring one actress and I have about 5-6 movies I have to go through. I'll try and get a couple of other movie updates before the end of the year too.

Australian Classics Redux for 20 December...

Yep, still going with the redos, these movies from 2003-2004 today. Liquid Bridge is a laughably terrible drama about a surfer who finds the strength to be the best he can after being wrongfully jailed for drug trafficking. I love how the sex scene is the final scene in the movie like it needed it (not complaining though). Clunky as hell and quite a few moments which are just embarrassing. Wouldn't expect anything less from Phillip Avalon, the master of craptacular movie. Oh wait, here's another Avalon classic The Pact, a laughably terrible thriller about a man who holds a grudge against one of his former daredevil friends and wants to relive the anniversary of a tragic event with her and her daughter. Also turns out that he's impossible to kill and may even be dead. And there's an unnecessary sex scene (not... ah you know what I'm saying). Ned is a not very good parody of the story of Ned Kelly, some seriously dodgy jokes and a lot of obvious ones too. Tom White is the only decent movie of this lot with a great lead in Colin Friels as a man who descends into mental illness and leaves his family and lives on the streets. Tough going, but if you're into that sort of thing definitely worth a look.

OK, Simone Kessell, Michala Banas, Emma Lung and Sigrid Thornton all work quite regularly both locally and overseas. Nikki Osborne was recently in the sketch comedy series Kinne. Loene Carmen has always floated between acting (her last movie was Red Dog) and music and is married to Aden Young, who's currently very in demand. Abigail Bianca, Bree Walters and Angela Keep don't seem to act anymore.

Australian Classics Redux for 18 December...

More stuff from Australian movies from the early 2000s. The Wannabes is an OK comedy from the makers of The Wog Boy about a group of criminals who hire a try-hard dance teacher to turn them into a kids entertainment group, only they're doing as a way to get into robbing a house run by a someone very much like Rose Hancock. But it doesn't quite go to plan. A broad comedy going for some satire but doesn't always work, but at least it's not beating a dead horse like The Wog Boy. City Loop is a comedy about a bunch of young people who work or hang out at a pizza shop that takes place over one night. Pretty forgettable and not really all that funny but probably far more notable for who is in it. The Crop is an oddball comedy set in 80s Queensland where a bar owner tries his hand at making a little extra cash growing dope and surprisingly turns out to be more than handful. Strange movie, has a different vibe to it, possibly because it feels a bit unpolished and was made outside the system. Not great, but something that's going for something different, but doesn't pull it off.

We all know what Isla Fisher went onto but her Home and Away cast mates Kristy Wright and Holly Brisley (who are both in The Crop) haven't done much recently, Kristy having no movies or TV since 2005. Jessica Napier was a regular in a whole of Australian TV dramas but haven't seen a lot of her recently. Hayley McElhinney still turns up from time to time, but never broke out and Megan Dorman quit acting a long while back just as it seems she was about to break out. She does have a nude scene in the mini-series Jessica that I should redo at some stage.

Australian Classics Redux for 17 December...

Back redoing the old Australian stuff. still quite a few to get through. Three more today, all from the early 2000s, all quite different. Cubbyhouse is a horror movie about a portal to hell in the cubby house and features Joshua Leonard straight out of Blair Witch. Russian Doll is a romantic comedy about a Russian bride (Natalia Novikova) who's husband dies before she lands in Australia. She is 'comforted' by David Wenham who is very married and uses his friend (Hugo Weaving) to put up his fling, but they end up falling in love, of course! Australian Rules is probably the best of the movies, a pretty good drama about a teenage boy (Nathan Phillips) and his Aboriginal friend Dumby Red who play Australian Rules football together in a town full of racial tension that is about to boil over when Dumby is involved a botched burglary ending in someone's death.

Natalia Novikova (or as she's sometimes credited as Natasha Novak), Helen Dallimore and Lisa Flanagan (recently had a brief nude scene in Strangerland) all still get regular or semi-regular roles. Natalia has nude scenes in at least two things I've seen, an episode of the 90s ABC drama Fallen Angels, which looks like being lost forever sadly and in the Paul Cox movie Salvation, which one of these days I need to get around to capping. Lauren Hewett seems to have quit acting after Cubbyhouse despite being a well known teen actress, such a shame. Belinda Gavin went to America and appeared in numerous softcore movies under different names, I think Cubbyhouse might have been her first nude scene (and probably least significant...). Laurie Foell is probably best known for Home and Away but seems to have done a fair bit of stuff in New Zealand. A viewer of the site once told me that she had a nude scene (actually fairly significant I think the words were) in the 2001 movie Elixir. But that movie has never seen the light of day except for a lengthy trailer on YouTube that hinted at such a scene. Maybe one day...

Update for 13 December...

Well, I've finally gotten around to finishing this series after 3 months of mucking about, so here goes.

You know the story to Fifty Shades of Grey, mousy and virginal Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) meets Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) for an interview for the college newspaper and they immediately hit it off. They become closer to one another, but Anastasia finds out that Christian likes her alright; he just wants to have her in his own way, which he sets out in a contract. Anastasia is reluctant to sign as it means going to a place she has never imagined, but as both get to know each other more, the contract may have to be revised. Ha ha! What a silly tale this is, the whole ridiculousness of treating a relationship as a business deal. Boy, is there a lot of mention of the fucking contract, meanwhile the two keep fucking and exploring the outer regions of their relationship. Shouldn't these two be split apart and hosed off until the contract is signed? Update for 11 December...

A break from the Australian redos with a couple series from newly released movies. Both movies are pretty good too with Bone Tomahawk being a brutal thriller where a small town sheriff (Kurt Russell) with the help of his deputy (Richard Jenkins), a gun-for-hire (Matthew Fox) and the crippled town doctor (Patrick Wilson) attempt to get back the doctor's wife (Lili Simmons) and the other deputy after they are kidnapped by savage cannibals who are looking to appease their Gods after their burial site is desecrated. Goodbye To All That is a drama about a man (Paul Schneider) who is unexpectedly told by his wife (Melanie Lynskey) that she wants a divorce. After the initial devastation he attempts to get on with his life and starts seeing a number of women, which puts him at odds with his young daughter. As I said, both a pretty decent, I preferred Bone Tomahawk in all its brutality and horror, but Goodbye To All That has it's charm and quite a few hot actresses in brief appearances.

Australian Classics Redux for 9 December...

Today's update features 3 early 2000s movies starring Rose Byrne. Anyone who has been following me since day dot would know that I'm a big Rose Byrne fan and capped many of her films. I did drop off for a while, but a few months back I began to rectify that situation in what would be the early crumbs of the Australia/NZ overseas collection. This is the first time I've seen My Mother Frank in widescreen; to be honest it looks like it was shot for fullscreen as there's a ridiculous amount of space on the sides of many scenes. Looks generally strange.

Rose has only done one nude scene, in the movie The Goddess of 1967, well not including the prosthetic breasts scene in Neighbors, but there's some close calls below, a couple of side-boob scenes in My Mother Frank and a see-through top shot in The Night We Called It A Day that really needs a higher quality copy to hopefully get a better look. Sadly, pretty much all of the movies in these redux updates will probably never get a HD version, but we can always hope.

Australian Classics Redux for 7 December...

Really been struggling on the movie side lately, not a lot of great new stuff or just can't be bothered with it. Have capped some movies for the Australian/NZ overseas section, but most of those are movie from the past few years. Anyway, I have a stockpile of old Australian movies that I first capped in the pre-johnny-moronic.com days that need to be redone, most of which don't take a lot of work to get done, so from today here's some Australian movies from the 90s and early 2000s that have been refreshed and made available again.

Today's update doesn't have any collages hence making it easier to get things finished. I will be doing collages from other series. Wide selection of 5 movies today, no set pattern, just the easiest to finish off.
