Some HD reduxes today, just a bunch of small updates that needed to upgraded to HD. Was going to do collages and just couldn't be bothered, but there are the original collages if you would like. The After Sex update isn't from the best source, but it will do, a few interlacing problem during the cuts which I assume was from the original source not the re-encode. Sometimes Blurays are just badly made, doubt there will be another version, but it's still not bad, just not of a high standard.

Gee, I used to be a big booster from Rachael Leigh Cook back in the day, particularly in the pre-johnnymoronic.com era where she'd have a new movie out every 6 months and I'd dutifully cap it. But I haven't watched anything new from her in years, which is a damn shame. Still working regularly, just not on my radar and barely any movies since about 2007-2008. And definitely top 3 actresses that got away never doing a nude scene. Still time...

Update for 26 September...

A quick one.

I.T. is a techno-stalker thriller where the head of a private jet company Mike Regan (Pierce Brosnan) is about to launch an app for booking a private jet, but it doesn't go as planned and Mike gets the help of tech guy Ed (James Frecheville) and he saves the day. Mike is eternally grateful and invites Ed to fix his home tech hook up and then stay for dinner with his wife Rose (Anna Friel) and school age daughter Kaitlyn (Stefanie Scott). Ed takes an instant liking to Kaitlyn and 'friends' her online, but when she invites Ed over to the house, Mike objects to this and kicks him out. During the his time fixing up their home tech, Ed managed to get access to it from his house and begins peering into the Regan's lives. When he pushes again with Kaitlyn, Mike angrily gets rid of him and tells him not to come back. Ed then plays havoc with both Mike home and work life and drives him to despair and then into a car accident. Having had enough, Ed brings in a fixer Henrik (Michael Nyqvist) who goes about dismantling the hold Ed has on Mike and his family but Ed will have his way even if it causes a tragedy. Pretty stock-standard techno thriller and as with all these movies, it plays up the paranoia and it is generally effective here. The best part of the movie is when Henrik comes along and with Mike attempts to get back his life, that sequence of the movie is very well done, but apart from that, it's nothing you haven't seen done elsewhere.

This week's redux features four movies about car racing. Well, Octane is only related by title, it's actually a vampire movie and this is the first time I've capped Nitro, but you get my drift. None in HD sadly and I highly doubt they will turn up in HD as they are either B-movies or long forgotten, but they are now available in better quality on this site. Still can't believe Taylor Cole has a blatant topless scene and she's obviously wearing patches. She's then topless in the pool, but is clearly wearing a bikini top when she should be topless. Why even have the scene if you're going cover up?

Update for 22 September...

Digging in to the lucky dip today and pulled out some late 90s made-for-TV movies starring Zoe McLellan that get a regular run on TV here. Total Stranger gets a semi-regular run as a midday movie every few months (it was on last Friday hence this update) and Home Invasion is late night fare mainly because it's surprisingly violent for a made-for-TV movie. I've also watched both movies way too many times and I'm hoping that by capping both I will never watch them again, but I doubt that would happen. Home Invasion is not bad as far as home invasion movies go and they've gotten much nastier in recent time. Total Stranger is a stock-standard thriller but is pretty watchable nonetheless. Also, I could've sworn that I already capped Total Stranger, but it turns out it was another Zoe McLellan made-for-TV movie The Wrong Girl, which I haven't seen on TV in years.

Have a number of made-for-TV movies and long forgotten movies I've recorded and currently all they are doing is piling up, so I'm hoping to cap a few more in the coming weeks. Not necessarily with nude scenes, usually not, but there's some good stuff there and a fair amount of it is forgotten or long lost. The midday movie on Channel 7 has some 90s gems that they intersperse with more recent fair. For the most part, the movies they show have practically nothing to cap, but at least once a week/fortnight, there's something worth capping. I wish Channel 9's midday movies where a lot better than the repetitive list of movies they roll through when not replaying their dogshit reality TV shows.

I'm a bit worried that they have been edited as I know that the occasional one is edited usually for some brief sex scene but then others with nudity get shown uncut, it's can be a real crap shoot. I hope that the Total Stranger stuff is uncut and from what I've seen, I think it is uncut, but if it isn't please tell me so I can try to rectify this. The quality of the Total Stranger series is quite good with it being upscaled HD, but the Home Invasion rip is from a couple of years ago when the HD stream wasn't a good, but it's not bad either although I would recap it again if it comes on the HD channel again any time soon.

Update for 20 September...

The Neon Demon is a drama where 16 year-old Jesse (Elle Fanning) has arrived in Los Angeles and wants to be a model. Her photographer friend Dean (Karl Glusman) helps her get started and that is where she meets make-up artist Ruby (Jena Malone), who takes her to a party to meet her model friends Sarah (Abbey Lee) and Gigi (Bella Heathcote). It is clear that Jesse has 'it' and seems to dazzle everyone around her including exclusive photographer Jack (Desmond Harrington) and a fashion designer (Alessandro Nivola). But, being a 16 year-old girl alone in the big city is a trial for Jesse and even trusting her supposed friend Ruby becomes a problem, not helped when jealousy overcomes both Sarah and Gigi when they are overlooked for Jesse on various jobs. All three women are going to do something about this and it's all to do with that special something that Jesse has. Another Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Bronson, Only God Forgives) wild ride that will definitely annoy most people, but I quite liked this movie and it's crazy tangents. Never one to rush along while telling his story, Winding Refn is all about aesthetic and for this movie it works well. Everyone is still statue like, so you never expect any high quality acting although a mention must be made of Jena Malone who gets to do most of the crazy stuff and is very good at it (which might not be complement). Worth a look if you want something very out there and don't mind the snail's pace, otherwise, you'd probably give it a miss.

Update for 15 September...

3 quick updates from Australian movies released in the last week.

Broke is a drama about a rugby league legend who has become a drunken gambling addict after his career is over. Then a father and his daughter (Claire van der Boom), two of his biggest fans, attempt to help him out, but he may just be too far gone. OK movie, good performances particularly from lead Steve Le Marquand, but a pretty sad story.

Force of Destiny is the final movie from director Paul Cox that mirrors his own health struggles about an artist (David Wenham) who needs a liver transplant and goes through all the stages as he strikes up a relationship with a marine biologist from India (Shahana Goswami). A bit wishy-washy with lots of dream sequences and mystical thoughts but not much insight into coping with knowing you might die. Also has a few embarrassingly overwrought scenes. Disappointing.

Start. Options. Exit (possibly the most imaginative title in a while and best thing about the movie) is about two lifelong friends now hipsters who can't find their way in the world. One is obsessed with getting back a former girlfriend he dumped after seeing her new boyfriend and formulates a despicable plan to do so. The other becomes obsessed with a homeless beggar who seems to have it way better than he does. A complete mess of a movie, stuffed with cameos (Chopper Read, Tottie Goldsmith and bafflingly Ron Jeremy with obligatory big dick gag), doesn't know what it wants to be. A satire, a dark comedy or a drama about two massive cunts and result is probably none of the above. No idea what this movie wants to be...

Update for 12 September...

Some new thrillers today.

Hangman is a home invasion thriller where an unknown assailant has moved into the attic of Aaron and Beth (Jeremy Sisto and Kate Ashfield) and family while they go on holiday. The assailant has set up an expansive set of cameras across the house to watch what's happening below. When the family come back from their holiday, their house looks like it's been ransacked, but nothing is taken. As the family go about their daily business, the assailant watches from the attic, occasionally coming down to eat or get a closer look. When a handyman discovers a camera in the wall, the assailant murders him. He seems fixated on Beth and occasionally her teenage daughter Marley (Ryan Simpkins) and her son Max (Ty Simpkins) believes he is having dreams where a man is telling him things. But what is it that the assailant wants or will he get discovered? Another found footage movie and this one generally strains credibility, but has some disturbing moments, but I remember the Spanish movie Mientras Duermes did a similar story better. The whole thing about the son is ridiculous and how not one of the at least a dozen cameras was found by the family seems silly. I'm still not sure what the assailant absolutely wanted with the family because the ending makes it seem like he doesn't really know either. Disappointing, but then home invasion thriller do tend to be.

Listening is a sci-fi thriller where two broke grad students David and Ryan (Thomas Stroppel and Artie Ahr) are stealing more computer gear for their project, a mind reading device. It is going along slowly and with no money, even slower. David is also having issues with his wife Melanie (Christine Haeberman), as he's spending more time on the project than with her and their daughter. Ryan spies Jordan (Amber Marie Bollinger) at the university and they hit it off instantly as he introduces the project to her, much to David's chagrin. But, Jordan adds fresh eyes to the project and this helps the project go from being on the right track, to the next level as now a person can read the mind of who they are connected too. After the death of his grandmother, Ryan doesn't even have enough money for a proper burial, so he decides to sell the project to the prospective buyer, which he does, but it alerts the very people they didn't want to, the government and David and Ryan are arrested and Melanie takes their daughter and leaves David. But, this is the best thing that could've happened to them as the CIA decides to recruit them to make their technology viable for their own nefarious means. This troubles David and he goes about finding a way to stop the CIA from using technology. Very interesting moral conundrum thriller that isn't perfect, but has a great idea and just runs with it. The type of movie that big budget Hollywood used to make regularly, but not so much now. Definitely worth a look.

Alléluia is a Belgian thriller where Gloria (Spanish actress Lola Dueñas) is looking for love again after her husband left her and hasn't been seen since. Her sister introduces her to Michel (Laurent Lucas), a loner but with a gift for picking up ladies and has a foot fetish. They hit it off immediately, but then he doesn't get back to her and seems to have disappear. Gloria tracks him down but he's onto his next conquest and when she confronts him, he gets a splitting migraine and she looks after him. One thing leads to another and Gloria has skipped town with Michel, leaving her daughter to her sister. Gloria and Michel come to an arrangement where he shacks up with other women and she tags along posing as his sister, although they continue their affair. First stop is Marguerite (Édith Le Merdy) and she is very amorous towards him and this sets off Gloria, who kills Marguerite in a fit of rage. This horrifies Michel, but he also accepts it. After disposing of the body, they move onto the next woman, Gabriella (Anne-Marie Loop) under the guise of raising money for charity. But, Michel can't help himself and he seduces her and again Gloria becomes enraged and kills Gabriella. They move onto next woman, Solange (Héléna Noguerra), who has a daughter who abhors Gloria. Michel placates Gloria by drugging her drink before he romances Solange, but before long Gloria's jealousy is going to get the better of her and both Solange and her daughter are in danger. From the director of Vinyan and Calvaire, both very stylish movies and Alléluia continues in that vain, possibly going overboard with the style in this one as their is a lot of fast moving close up shots that are hard to follow. The story itself is very rudimentary and both leads a very frustrating characters, particularly Gloria as she has very base emotions including a child-like wanting of her way which is very disconcerting, particularly when Gloria becomes violent and her abandonment of her daughter for a pig of a man is troubling to say the least. Dueñas (Volver, Yo, También) is a very good actress, but this is a tough sell and is hard to warm to here. Alléluia is a tough sell, one part very disturbing, one part intriguing, one part reprehensible and one part unwatchable. Beware...

Redux Friday for 9 September...

That time of the week again and I've found three HD upgrades from series I capped in the pre-johnnymoronic.com era (before late 2005). I've been going through my old series looking for some stuff to recap and there isn't a lot available in HD. But, I have already capped another redux series a few days ago from Halloween: Resurrection plus the three series today. I'm hoping over coming weeks to do a few more of the old series, although I think it's mostly from DVDs.

One thing I did notice is that I just capped anything and everything I came across back in the day and there's a quite a number of series that I would never do today as there's practically nothing sexy to cap in the movie and I probably only capped the movie because I liked the actress in the movie. Case in point, this update features two movies I saw in the cinema in the 90s, way before I ever started capping, but I always liked that Nina Siemaszko scene from Airheads and watched a whole lot of stuff with Karina Arroyave with 187 the only thing she was in worth capping.

Update for 5 September...

Update for 1 September...

A couple of movies featuring Ellen Page, both with nude scenes from her and both released on the same day.

Tallulah is a drama where a drifter, Tallulah (Ellen Page), is left in the middle of nowhere by her boyfriend Nico (Evan Jonigkeit). Tallulah goes looking for Nico and ends up at his mother Margo's (Allison Janney) house, but she hasn't seen him in two years. While scrounging for some food in a hotel, Tallulah is accosted by Carolyn (Tammy Blanchard), a blowsy woman who is looking for her next man and can't do so without having someone looking after her one year old daughter, which she forcefully gets Tallulah to do. Unimpressed with having to look after the kid of an unsound mother, she takes the kid to her car where they spend the night, but when she returns, Carolyn has called the police about her missing baby and Tallulah panics and runs away with the baby. She goes to Margo to milk her for money, claiming that the baby is her grandchild, but Margo reluctantly takes in Tallulah and child. Over the next few days they bond, but with the police closing in and the kidnapping being citywide news, this isn't going to last long, OK movie featuring three rather flawed female characters and all three are played fairly well, particularly Tammy Blanchard as the out-of-her-depth mother. But, the whole kidnapping part of the story is a bit dicey, particularly as Tallulah gets away with it for quite a few days even though it is the lead news story. Even the arrival of her boyfriend later in the movie makes it even less plausible. Not to say that Tallulah could've walked back into the hotel when she first sees the police and easily convinced everyone of a misunderstanding, but then we wouldn't have movie... Not a bad movie, but it has it's issues.

Into The Forest is a drama set after the electricity has been cut and society starts to breakdown. Sisters Nell and Eva (Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood) live with their father (Callum Keith Rennie) in the house bordering the forest when society goes to shit. Then their father dies from a chainsaw accident and the sisters are left to fend for themselves while coping with the loss of their father. After a while, Nell's boyfriend Eli (Max Minghella) joins them and it causes further tension between the sisters which leads to Nell leaving with Eli for Detroit as he's heard that everything is back up there. But, Nell decides to stay with Eva. Later, Eva is raped by the man who gave them fuel for their generator, which he steals, but worse than that, she finds out she's pregnant because of it. Nell and Eva band together and try to move on with life while planning for the birth of the child as the house that was being renovated before the shutdown continues to collapse around them. OK movie but I'm pretty tired of the post-apocalyptic genre in general, all invariably the same with little to nothing to add to a crowded genre. Page and Wood drive the film and the movie works better when it's just them two. Although I'm not convinced that society would crumble as easily as this after only an electricity shut down, but who knows until it actually happens.
