Update for 28 February...

Quick update from an Australian movie that aired on TV last night on a low quality channel, but it's the best I can do at the moment without paying full price for a DVD from America as the movie is still being played in cinemas here in Australia. Didn't really watch Teenage Kicks but it's an extension of the short film Drowning, which I capped a year or so ago and even redoes the nude scene from that short, this time with Charlotte Best. While watching the TV show Puberty Blues, I said that I'd have a heart attack if Charlotte ever showed her breasts, well she does very briefly here and I definitely had palpations...

A HD version should turn up soon.

Still with the old reduxes and today's update is all about Monet Mazur, an actress I quite liked, well according to the amount of times I capped her, quite a lot actually. Haven't seen her in much recently sadly...

Don't have much to say about Whirlygirl, the more recent of the movies (which I capped in 2008), an OK drama about a boarding school student who falls for a messed up stripper/dancer who steals his watch. Comic Book Villains in a comedy thriller about a bunch of comic book store owners who go to war over a prized collection that has become available as it's owner had died. Silly movie that gets surprisingly violent towards the end and feels more like a Tarantino knock-off out of time and probably why it went straight-to-DVD. Also bafflingly has a final scene shot in Spain that in all honestly could've been shot anywhere, but is actually shot in Barcelona with Spanish actress Irene Montalà turning up to shine on D.J. Qualls. Very strange ending...

The movie I really want to talk about is Dangerous Seduction also known as The Learning Curve (I think Australia might be the only place this movie is called Dangerous Seduction), a thriller about a couple of grifters who get in over their head when they get caught up with some low level gangsters. The movie's pretty silly especially when the low level gangsters arrive but no more so than the end of the movie which is the biggest rip-off of both Scarface and Carlito's Way, both directed by Brian de Palma. Hell, even Steven Bauer from Scarface turns up to do his Tony Montana impression followed by a shoot out at a train station including on escalators like Carlito's Way. Adding some intrigue to this is that the director worked with de Palma on a number of his movies including Carlito's Way. Fairly forgettable movie anyway, Monet looks pretty sexy in it (that beach bikini running scene especially) but there's nothing much going on here, a B movie all the way.

Some good if brief nudity from Monet in Whirlygirl, some side-boob in Dangerous Seduction with her best nudity being in Stoned. Interesting to see that Monet became more amenable to nudity after she got the boob job. Hmm... Stark Raving Mad should also be in this update but I haven't been able to pick up a copy like I have these other movies.

Redux for 25 February...

Being collecting a bunch of old DVD from movies I capped ages ago, but I've just been hoarding them, so it's time for a clear out. All these redux series are from the pre-johnny-moronic.com era where I capped these movies in 2002-2003. I don't think they'll be a HD version of these movies, so might as well clear the hard drive with a whole bunch of them.

Haven't watched any of these movies since I capped them, so it's been a while. When Brendan Met Trudy is a pretty good Irish anti-romantic comedy about a teacher who falls for an anarchist and throws away his cosy life for her. Very wacky, even by writer Roddy Doyle's standards, but a pretty decent watch that seems to be sadly long forgotten. Some good nudity from Flora Montgomery, for some reason I thought there was more nudity than that, but my original caps don't suggest that. Firestarter 2 is a pretty hokey mini-series based loosely on the original Stephen King novel as I don't think he ever actually wrote a sequel. Sort of bummed out that Marguerite Moreau never took off even though she threatened to and this mini-series might not of helped that. Did some pretty good nudity in Easy a couple of years later. Man, Buying The Cow, one of those early millennium low rung sex comedy that always seemed to star Jerry O'Connell (haha, I think the only other one was Tomcats, but he just seemed to be in all of them), has aged incredibly badly. Trying to think what was worse, the terrible plot where Ryan Reynolds' character thinks he's gay for no other reason than he mistakenly believed that he drunkenly slept with a man (he didn't) or bizarre coincidence that the girl of Jerry O'Connell's character's dreams is the sister of the girl he 'mistakenly' thought was the girl of his dreams but was actually a freaked out overly developed 11 year-old girl. Comedy!!! I thought Erinn Bartlett showed a bit more in this movie, but I've mistaken it for another movie again. I'll have to find what movie that was. Little interest in The Clean and Narrow, but it's done, don't have to do it again... Global Heresy (aka Rock My World) is another baffler as to why I capped this movie, quite possibly because I was hoping Alicia Silverstone would be sexy in the movie, but that doesn't really turn out to be the case. Her star had faded so much by the time this movie was released that it went straight-to-DVD here in Australia and Alicia is just one of the band, no starring role here. Hell, if I was to tell you to name a movie that stars Peter O'Toole and Dame Joan Plowright, surely you'd never guess Global Heresy, but it does.

Amazing what I capped back in the day. There's a whole bunch of movies I capped because a certain actress was in it, even when there's no sexy stuff from said actress. So I won't be doing some of them again. Even some of those below are very random. No idea why I capped The Clean and Narrow...

Update for 20 February...

Hey, come back, I still cap new stuff, here it is...

Everlasting is a drama where Matt (Adam David) makes a movie to attempt to make sense of the murder of his girlfriend Jessie (Valentina de Angelis) while modelling in Los Angeles. Matt and Jessie are high school lovers and straight out of high school, Jessie wants to go live in LA and Matt helps her set up there. She signs up to be a model with Cristiane (Bai Ling) and Maurice and she rises very quickly before she is found dead. Matt struggles to make sense of her death and speaking to the few of her acquaintances that will speak doesn't shed any light on why it happened or who is involved. Then, Matt receives a tape of Jessie's murder from a mysterious photographer and serial killer Leor (Michael Massee) and he goes back to LA to find Leor and kill him. Promising story but lets itself down badly with its ridiculous ending. The movie is at its best when it is trying to understand Jessie and why she is who she is but her death is uninteresting and random only compounded by the ending. Disappointing as it is at least an interesting story for a while. And I did get a laugh out of Pat Healy as clearly photographer Terry Richardson, almost to the point where I wish he was the killer just to see the reaction it would get.

Can't be bothered reviewing Contract To Kill, typical late period Steven Seagal where his doubles do a lot of the action work. Also the plot to the movie is needlessly complex plus the whole plot about kidnapping Jemma Dallender's character doesn't make any sense. Admittedly, I only watched the movie for Jemma from I Spit On Your Grave 2 and she has a pretty big role here. She has a sort of sex scene with Seagal, well what he can muster I s'pose, but for the life of me I'm not convinced it is her in the bits where she's nude or being touched by Seagal. I've seen enough double scenes to smell a rat here, I reckon there's a strong chance of a double for Jemma. Wouldn't blame her to be honest, the way Seagal is pawing over her...

Update for 18 February...

All about Reese Witherspoon in today's 90s update, again focusing on that marvellous year of 1998 (by accident). I'd never seen Twilight before and Reese is barely in it beyond her opening minutes nude scene. Good little old Hollywood mystery too although it has its limitations and that shoot out between Paul Newman and James Garner or more hilariously, their doubles, is very iffy. Remember watching Overnight Delivery back in the day, it's very similar to the movie Road Trip, which was released a year or two later. The basic premise is exactly the same, but where Road Trip is more about the journey, Overnight Delivery is more wackiness and stunts, going for broader comedy (even broader than Road Trip...). Similar endings too where it turns out that the girls cheated on the boyfriends. Hmm...

Update for 13 February...

A couple of 90s teen movies today. Had never seen The Crush before and to be honest it's nothing special, another to add to the teen stalker genre although I doubt that they would make Alicia Silverstone's character 14 years old nowadays like they did in this movie. This also reminds me that I remember seeing Hideaway in cinemas in 1996 and there was an 'Introducing Alicia Silverstone' credit in that movie which made me laugh because I saw Clueless the previous year and that's even without mentioning this 1993 release (which admittedly went straight-to-video here in Australia). My only memories from watching The Faculty back in the day was that Josh Hartnett played the cool kid, Laura Harris has a nude scene (of course I'd remember this) and was the host alien and that it was made by Kevin Williamson, the Scream guy and I completely blanked that Robert Rodriguez actually directed it in a rare movie he hasn't recently rehashed. Also blanked on Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster and a host of other fairly well known actors turn up in this (oh and of course Salma Hayek being a Rodriguez movie and all). The movie is strangely lacking the humour that both Williamson and Rodriguez are known for, which I was surprised by although there are some funny moments mostly involving Robert Patrick's psychotic football coach. Apart from that, it's played more serious than I remembered. Also has a strange plot device where the only way to tell whether someone is human or alien is by sniffing some homemade speed concoction which would've went down well back in the day. Hmm...

I don't know why it was cut out (I'm assuming it's was just lost in a general crop without looking at the scene) because the shot looks genuinely baffling now that it has been cropped, like she's picking at a loose thread or piece of lint below the screen.

Update for 9 February...

Today's 90s update is all about Elisabeth Shue from movies released in 94-95.

Hadn't seen Leaving Las Vegas since its release and I've got to say the central relationship between Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue is the best reason to watch this movie, but the movie itself is not without some weird touches that nobody ever seems to talk about like Julian Sands pimp character getting killed off about half-an-hour in when it has been set up that he was going to have a major influence on the central relationship. Instead it just seems like an inconvenience. Also, it's wall-to-wall Sting singing lounge music for some reason with no sign of that Sheryl Crow song actually titled Leaving Las Vegas. Baffling...

I remember watching Radio Inside on VHS back in the day, didn't realise it had made the leap to DVD until I came across it by chance recently and decided to cap it thinking that Elisabeth Shue had a bit of nudity in it, but it turns out it's only a few frames. OK movie about two brother's relationship with the older brother's girlfriend played by Elisabeth Shue. The Underneath, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is a pretty decent crime thriller told in different timelines where a man tries to reconnect with his former lover after being released from prison, but ends up neck deep in an armoured car robbery he's forced into by his former lover's current lowlife boyfriend. I hadn't seen this movie before this viewing but I'd seen good notices for it and they're not wrong. Some brief rear nudity from both Elisabeth and Alison Elliott is a scene which weirdly juxtaposes the two scenes together.

Update for 5 February...

The 90s never ends with today's update including two mystery thrillers, 1993's blind woman regains sight and witness murder thriller Blink and 1995's psychiatrist is being stalked as she takes a new lover thriller Never Talk To Strangers. Blink is not a bad movie, the killer reveal is a bit silly but that's not a major quibble. Never Talk To Strangers though, is a very silly movie with ludicrously gymnastic and comical sex scenes which bafflingly received an rare R rating for sex scenes here in Australia, but are actually fairly tame. Rebecca de Mornay seems to be enjoying herself a lot during the scenes with Antonio Banderas, so good for her. The plot to the movie is laughably bad and the stalker reveal, well let's just say that the stalked is actually the stalker and don't laugh at how silly that is, please, this is a serious movie. From that 90s period where mental disability was open slather for mysteries.

Redux Friday for 3 February...

Today's redux is from the 2000 movie Bruiser, directed by George Romero, one of his lesser known movies probably because it's an unexceptional slasher movie, but it's not without some fun moments. Peter Stormare's incredibly sleazy arsehole boss is a blast when he's on the screen probably to the point that his death scene feels anti-climatic. Sadly it seems Nina Grabiras isn't acting any more, shame as I quite liked her.
