90s Update for 26 November...

The 90s update has continued onto Monday, well it was supposed to be released yesterday but ran out of time and decided to release something instead of nothing. Haven't seen either I Know movie since their release and I gotta say that the premise to the initial movie is pretty solid but there's an obsession with bumping off periphery characters unrelated to the initial incident, even more so in the sequel where all the periphery characters (including Jack Black in a ridiculous dreadlock wig who doesn't get an above the line credit but John Hawkes, who's in one scene, does) are all bumped off before any of the main cast is considered. Also, pertinent to this site, is that the first movie is shot in perv-o-vision as there are so many shots, mostly in the second half of the movie where the camera is directly down the top of Sarah and Jennifer, so much so that Sarah has a brief nip-slip in one scene shot from above, a common camera position in the second half of the movie. There's one shot that is so unsubtle that it begins down Jennifer's top before panning down. It's quite something to see as this is not all that common in movies, usually down blouses and upskirts are accidents but there's absolute no doubt these shots were set up like this. It's not entirely obvious if you are just watching the movie but when you take a closer look, like capping the movie, there's something pretty obvious going on here. Friday redux delivers 4 Australian movies, most of which I've had lying around for a while until I finally could be bothered to do this update. This is my 3rd go at Candy, first from DVD in 2006 then a from a 720p source in 2010 with today's update from a Bluray source finally. Desperately needs to be a Bluray of Abbie Cornish's other movie from the period where she's plenty nude, Somersault, but that movie seems to have been pretty much forgotten despite being the highest grossing Australian movie of its year of release, not that it was all that much, 2003 was a poor year for Australian movies in general. I was going to cap Snapshot exactly one year ago today according to my first attempt, which I abandon when I ran into some issues I couldn't rectify, finally got around to have another go at it and the videos seem to be fine. Another overseas Bluray like Candy was, only on DVD here in Australia although I'm not sure why Snapshot got a HD release as it's a pretty poor movie and barely has a cult following. It's a good transfer, so can't complain and Sigrid Thornton naked and HD is most welcome. Next Of Kin was just released on Bluray here in Australia, another movie which got a bump thanks to the Ozploitation craze and I remember thinking the movie wasn't too bad, it was some pretty decent scenes and the ending is quite good. Finally, another overseas Bluray from the 2010 thriller The Clinic, which I did already have a HD video from a rip I found back in 2011 but I got the full Bluray and well, it's not a great improvement, it's pretty debateable to be honest, but it's fine, just not great in quality.

Haven't been big on doing Australian update for quite a while, I always do new stuff and HD upgrades when I can be bothered but I haven't been going back through all the DVDs and VHSs like I did regularly for a few years now. There should be plenty and I've made a few videos for further editing here and there, so maybe soon I'll have some Australian Classic updates.

Update for 21 November...

Another 4 TV movie, all bar one is recent. Devious Nanny is a pretty standard bad nanny TV movie except for a pretty decent 3rd act twist. Also, all nannies seem to be fucked up foster kids so this is another movie that picks on foster kids. Also has a pretty decent albeit one-sided girlfight between Olesya Rulin and Michelle Borth. All the others are pretty standard TV movies with some brief sexy stuff although My Teacher, My Obsession has a surprisingly graphic throat slashing. Break-Up Nightmare introduces incels and red-pilling which I haven't seen in a TV movie before and it's all pretty laughable.

90s Update for 18 November...

You know what time it is and here's 3 more movies from the 90s, well technically Supernova was released in the first weeks of 2000 but the movie says 1999. I've seen Sister My Sister way too many times, so now it's time to finally cap it. It's a pretty good movie but how do you recommend a movie with incest lesbians maids who murder their employers? The Psycho remake is hard to judge as it's own movie because it feels more like an art piece than a remake because it's almost a shot-for-shot replica of the original. There's nothing remarkable about it at all and all the best stuff is already in the original. Also, the movie is set in 1998 but everyone looks like they just stepped out of original movie until Julianne Moore bafflingly turns up as if she came from the future or the present in regards to when the movie is sent. Moore's entire role in the movie is very weird. If anything, the Psycho remake is a lesson in never doing a shot-for-shot remake of anything, particularly of a beloved original because if you are not adding anything to the original, what's the point?

Update for 13 November...

A bunch of new movies including a couple of movies featuring Jaimi Paige which I did not know about until I started watching them. Some quick synopses:

Don't Go is a thriller about a couple who have lost their daughter in a tragic accident that happened after the father was found to be having an affair with his sister-in-law. He starts having the same vivid dream about her and starts to believe he can bring her back from the dead if only he can work out how to escape the dream. Interesting idea but completely silly in execution.

Anonymous 616 is a thriller about a two couples who are having a dinner together with one man about to be shipped off for another tour of duty. They smoke some special weed and the troop begins an online chat with an anonymous user who seems to know everything about him and tempts him to forego all inhibition and do what he always wanted to do. He then terrorises the other guest and the 12 year-old daughter of his friend's partner. Supposedly a look at PTSD but is quite an ugly movie that is almost saved by a decent ending but that would mean you'd have to forget how disgusting the movie becomes and the rubbish tricks it uses.

90s Update for 11 November...

That time of the week again with another bunch of 90s movies. Friends And Lovers is a sex comedy with a rare bit of acting from model Claudia Schiffer, who's not bad and the only actress who doesn't get naked in the movie, sadly. Always get this mixed up with Your Friends & Neighbours, both ensemble comedies although the latter is a darker comedy plus it has a pretty sweet, if dark, full frontal scene from Amy Brenneman. Gotta find that movie now. Never seen Doppelganger before and fuck me it's one of the nuttiest movies I've ever seen. Baffling thriller about a young woman (Drew Barrymore, who's looks real young in this, barely seventeen in fact) who comes to town to find her brother after their mother was murdered, but is followed to Los Angeles by her doppelganger. Is the doppelganger real or is she schizophrenic or is it something else (hint: it's something else and you won't guess in a million years). Absolutely batshit crazy movie bordering on Color Of Night craziness territory but has a completely unnecessary sci-fi angle. Gotta love a movie that opens with Drew's character going on a stabbing frenzy on her mother played by her actual mother. Yep, it's that type of movie. And a couple of movies featuring stuntwoman C.J. Fidler who has a couple of nude scene including that scene from Half Baked (you know the one). Half Baked was one of my first requests I actually completed on this site just over 16 years ago. I remember the bloke being very particular and persistent about the scene, but I finally got it done. Wonder if he still comes to the site and if you do, hope you enjoy the update.

90s Update for 4 November...

Four more 90s movies for the weekend including a couple of early 90s Abel Ferrara movies I hadn't seen before. Dangerous Game is a movie about the making of an independent movie with Madonna playing a TV actress looking for credibility while James Russo plays a full on actor who's worked regularly with director Harvey Keitel, who is sleeping with Madonna while trying to keep a normal family life. One of those movies about making a movie that was all the rage in the 90s, this one is pretty full on and then turns the tables in the final act, so it gets very weird, typical Ferrara stuff. Then there's King Of New York which is one of those early 90s New York gangster movies but it's done Abel Ferrara style, so it's completely nuts and extremely violent and about a thousand times better than all the others. Christopher Walken is amazing as a just released from prison gangster who decides to kill all the competition while promising to finance a children's hospital. The cops chasing him are not happy with him getting away with it, so they take matters into their own hands. Amazing cast, amazing Christopher Walken performance and dancing, probably Abel Ferrara's best movie. Need to seek out more for capping.
