Long lost mini-series/telemovies

The update I was preparing for the Saturday update fell through so here's a too rare addition to the nude guide blog. Today's update features a bunch of telemovies/mini-series from the 80s and 90s, all of which are pretty much forgotten but have recently become available from VHS rips.

Act Of Betrayal

This 1988 Australian/Irish ABC co-production mostly made in Australia about a man involved in the IRA who becomes an informer to save his family and they are posted to Australia, where it turns out they are not as safe as they thought. Starring Elliott Gould, Patrick Bergin, Lisa Harrow and Deborra-Lee Furness, it has a pretty decent cast.

I found two different versions of the show of varying quality, the original 3 hour, 2 part mini-series and a 2 hour movie version and while both are VHS quality, the movie version is bigger and better than the mini-series version, so I've included both. Except the movie version is cut, so a few scenes don't appear below in both versions.

There's some very brief nudity from Deborra-Lee, as in a matter of frames so I've included some caps from the scene. There's also a brief scene of her in the bath in the mini-series version only and very briefly see a hint of side-boob. Also, Lisa Harrow lays atop a bloke naked briefly but you don't really see anything.

Hopefully a decent version of this turns up as it has a pedigree and the ABC does have an extensive archive but are very stingy with what they release.

Reprisal

1997 Channel 9 telemovie that played in the coveted late Saturday night timeslot, so it was essentially dumped, this was a part of series of telemovies written by Peter Yeldham. Starring Peter Phelps and Clodagh Crowe in a rare lead role as two cops hunting down a member of a heist who is killing other members of the crew.

There's some very brief nudity from Clodagh Crowe, so brief that I've represented in caps below. It is possibly her only nude scene as far as I know. She still acts from time-to-time but never really had any big roles. Also appearing in this telemovie is Georgie Parker who has an underwear scene but strangely for someone where TV shows are literally built around her starring in them (including the soon to begin All Saints), Georgie is barely in this movie before she is bumped off although she does receive an 'and' credit.

The quality of the videos below are VHS and as you can see, the first video has horrible static over of the bottom of the copy I found. It last about 20 minutes and the rest then turns out alright including during Clodagh's nude scene thankfully. Good luck with it ever getting a release of any type.

Without Warning

Another Peter Yeldham written telemovie, this time a 1999 thriller I'd never heard of until I came across a copy. I'm assuming it was another late night weekend release. Starring Arkie Whiteley, Steve Bastoni, Mark Lee and Kym Wilson, it's about a woman (Whiteley) who gets caught in an extortion plot from psycho traffic cop (Bastoni) who has a sideline in extorting money from people he pulls over by threatening to release their darkest secrets. Has a baffling plot involving Bastoni always talking about his computer which ends up being the thing that is his undoing. Gotta love a late 90s understanding of the internet, that hasn't dated in the slightest.

There's brief nude scene from Arkie Whiteley where she shows her bottom briefly while in the shower although it's possibly a double. Whiteley does have nude scenes in Razorback and the British telemovie The Last Musketeer. Strangely, Whiteley has a British accent in this movie but I must say that after an early career where she acted in a bunch of Australian productions, she reinvented herself as a British actress and a fairly successful one before she died in 2001. I think this was her only Australian production post-reinvention.

Not sure Kym Wilson ever had a nude scene, can't seem to think of anything. She was very prominent in the 90s in Australia possibly to the point of being huge having big roles in things like Brides Of Christ, Flirting, A Country Practise and Heartbreak High. She graced the covers of many magazines and I seem to remember she did a nude photo shoot, couldn't tell you where though but I've seen it. Apparently she's back acting again.

I've also had a look at another Peter Yeldham written telemovie from the series that were made, The Hostages from 1997 where Sophie Lee and Ann Burbrook are kidnapped in some South-East Asian country. Nothing to cap from that movie. Also Yeldham adapted the controversial 1996 telemovie for Channel 10, Whipping Boy about a murder committed by a bunch of prominent paedophiles. I've had a brief look at it too, no nudity but quite a bit of sexy stuff from María Mercedes (recently seen in The Tourist, so she's still going strong) as a sex worker and a scene where Sigrid Thornton flashes her bra to show she's not wearing a recording device. The copy I found was beyond awful, so no videos. Surprised it hasn't had some sort of release elsewhere as it does star Temeura Morrison in a role where he's underused and that's been generous. He's billed as the lead and is barely in it.
