Spanish Redux for 16 August...

Oh look, because I've got nothing better to do, I finally got around to recapping Diario de una Ninfómana in HD after sitting on it for pretty much 4 years. Usually when I go back and look at films I find something that I didn't find out the first time or becomes clearer thanks to HD, like when Belén wears a see-through top with no bra that becomes far more noticeable in HD. But, the one I completely missed the first time around is some brief nudity from Natasha Yarovenko before she was in that great lesbian Spanish masterpiece Habitación en Roma. That'd be right... Anyway, enjoy 21 new collages and 24 new videos.

Spanish Update for 15 August...

Yet another quick Spanish update today.

La Herencia Valdemar is a supernatural thriller that takes place over two time period. In the here and now, Luisa (Silvia Abascal) is asked to value a long deserted house previously owned by the Valdemar family. Once there, she discovers a dead body and some creature who goes after her, where she is saved by the groundskeeper, but that's only the start of her problems as she then driven to an undisclosed location. Meanwhile, a detective (Óscar Jaenada) is hired to find Luisa and he get the help of an expert in the Valdemar family Dr. Cerviá (Ana Risueño). She tells him the story of the Valdemar family consisting of husband and wife Lázaro (Daniele Liotti) and Leonor (Laia Marull) who are a childless couple who look after orphaned children. They fund this by running a séance scam, which is found out by a unscrupulous journalist who asks for a bribe or he'll write an article to out them as scammers. Lázaro refuses to be bribed, leading to his arrest. Meanwhile, a well-heeled man Aleister Crowley (Paco Maestre) has plans of his own for Lázaro and helps get him out of prison by setting up the journalist. Crowley wants Lázaro to perform a séance involving some of the greatest minds and figures of the time (including Bram Stoker and Lizzy Borden) that can make all their dreams come true, but it goes horribly wrong. Playing very much like part 1 of mini-series (it turns out there's a second movie), once the plot goes to the story of the Valdemar's, the original plot goes completely out the window and the movie plays like two stories running against each other. And I don't think you can get the whole experience without watching part 2 as something seems to be missing and things aren't resolved at all. Now I need to watch part 2...

Sadly, this copy that I have is very dark, but I did what I could and it's OK I s'pose.

Spanish Update for 14 August...

Another quick Spanish update today.

Dictado is a thriller that focuses on husband and wife, Daniel and Laura (Juan Diego Botto and Bárbara Lennie), who have been trying to have a child without success. One day, Daniel is visited by a long lost friend in Mario, who now seems desperate for help, which Daniel does not offer. Later that night, Mario kills himself in front of his daughter Julia and she is left orphaned. Laura sees this as an opportunity and convinces Daniel that they should be foster parents to Julia. But, something is not right about Julia, she struggles to fit in with the other children and she seems to know something about Daniel's past that starts to get to him. It doesn't help that Julia reminds Daniel of a girl he knew as a kid, a girl that mysteriously disappeared. A pretty stock standard thriller that if you've ever seen any creepy little kid thriller, you know what going to happen in this movie, I wish I could be more excited about the movie, but there's nothing new here.

Spanish Update for 11 August...

Didn't really know how long this Spanish update will go, but I've got a whole heap of stuff that I haven't done, so why continue?

Tensión Sexual No Resuelta is a sex comedy about highly popular author Jazz Romero (Norma Ruíz) who's one and only book is a massive best seller and now a movie (starring Antonio Banderas!!!). One day, she introduces herself to Celeste (Salomé Jiménez), a woman a week away from being married but living a staid existence, but desperately wants to find her wild side. She befriends Celeste, then beds her, then gets her to find her wild side and leave her boring fiance Juanjo (Fele Martínez). Celeste does this by meeting Nardo (Miguel Ángel Muñoz), a heavy metal singer and sexual beast and Celeste is alive for the first time. Meanwhile, Juanjo is not handling this well at all. He receives affection from a hot student Rebecca, sorry Carmen (Amaia Salamanca) and unexpectedly receives help to get Celeste back from conniving student Nico (Adam Jezierski). But, Jazz has a plan of her own and it all resides in both the past and that novel she wrote. The Spanish do love a sex comedy, though this one is a fairly unexceptional save for a pretty hot women. It all wraps up way too neatly, but at least it's a fun film for the most part.

Funnily enough I always thought Melissa P. was a Spanish movie, but after hearing a bit of dialogue from the movie, it sounded more Italian than Spanish and wouldn't you know it, Melissa P. is in Italian. Well, shit... Anyway, long time fave of the site María Valverde is still Spanish, so that'll do. And there's plenty of stuff of María from the movie. So, there you go...

Spanish Update for 8 August...

A couple of quick things from Spanish movies today.

Any de Gràcia is a coming-of-age comedy drama about a country boy David (Oriol Pla), who has come to Barcelona to studying art and is placed with Gràcia (Rosa Maria Sardà), a stuck in her ways woman who is only accepting a boarder because she expected a girl so that she can do all the chores for her, which she fully expects David to do. It's going to be a battle of wills as Gràcia has given David a 10pm curfew and he would definitely like his independence. He makes friends with the owner of the bar downstairs Pere (Santi Millán) and crushes on a seemingly unobtainable girl Noa (Diana Gómez). Over the year, David and Gràcia will test each other's patience and on the night David finally hooks up with Noa, a traumatic event occurs that will have a profound effect on both of their lives. Fun little film with two pretty good lead performances.

88 is a bizarre psychological thriller written and directed by actor Jordi Mollà (probably best known for being the bad guy in Bad Boys 2 and Blow, but I know him for a number of other films) that follows troubled couple, Rubén (Rubén Ochandiano) and Beatriz (Beatriz Montañez), who have a young daughter, but there relationship is at an impasse. Beatriz is obsessed that someone is watching them while Rubén is obsessed with some audio. Meanwhile, a bald man seems to know why this is happening and offers to help Rubén work it out and it seems to revolve around a hotel room numbered 88 and a painting of the couple attempting to enter that room. Just as they are working things out, the family is involved in a car accident as they speed away from people following them, possibly the bald man. Meanwhile, Álvaro (Álvaro Cervantes) checks into a hotel that looks mighty familiar and spies Thaïs (Thaïs Blume) attempting to hang herself. Álvaro saves her and they fall for each other, but then the bald man and his sidekick enter the hotel and they seem to know everything. Or something... I have no fucking idea what's going on here, I'm just assuming a lot of things and I don't think they are correct. I was baffled the entire time I was watching this movie and that's the best appraisal I can give. I can't even work out how it ends. I missing something, possibly everything, but 88 has going completely over my head. Ah well...

Both Diana Gómez (Eloïse) and Thaïs Blume (Luna Caliente) have done better nudity, so check them out if you like.

Spanish Update for 7 August...

Lo Mejor de Eva (Dark Impulse) is a thriller about a hot shot young prosecutor, Eva (Leonor Watling), who has risen quickly through the ranks but hasn't had much of a life. One day, she is asked to prosecute the murder of a woman that could involve some powerful people and a quite reliable witness she needs to keep them away from. At the same time, she meets a gigolo, Rocco (Miguel Ángel Silvestre), who seems to be friends with the murdered woman and may know who killed her, so Eva convinces him to be a witness for her case. Then, she falls for him and after she gets him protection, she begins a torrid relationship with him. And it seems there's more to Rocco and than meets the eye. Stock standard thriller with an unnecessary and unbelievable cathartic ending. Reminds me a lot of those 80s legal thrillers where prosecutors would always fall for someone involved in the case.

Spanish Update for 6 August...

More Spanish movies, this time a two-for.

El Cuerpo (The Body) is a Hitchcockian thriller set for the most part in a morgue. Álex (Hugo Silva) is called down to the morgue because his newly dead wife Mayka's (Belén Rueda) body is missing. His wife who he has just killed in collusion with his young mistress Carla (Aura Garrido). Accosted by the lead detective Peña (José Coronado), who is highly suspicious of him, Álex desperately tries to sure up the loose ends in the murder with the help of Carla, who he is in contact with by mobile phone, while trying to fob off Peña's increasingly harsh questions. Peña has his own demons, as he is still not over the death of his wife from a car crash. Also, Álex starts seeing apparitions of Mayka in the morgue. So, will Álex get away with murder? is Mayka really dead and setting Álex up? Ahhhh, bah! El Cuerpo is a film that twists itself into a knot with it's ever increasing, completely unbelievable twists that pile on to make up a most unlikely scenario. There are so many leaps of faith that have to be made that I'm surprised the film doesn't end like a Wild Things movie where the plot is explained in the credits. I don't believe this movie for a second, but most especially the role of Carla, who ends up selling her body and soul for the outcome. Bullshit, I say! A complete misfire.

El Callejón (Blind Alley) is a vampire horror quickie following wannabe star, but in reality a hotel maid Rosa (Ana de Armas) who one night goes to an all night laundromat. While talking with her friends on her mobile phone, a man, Gabriel (Diego Cadavid) enters the laundromat. At first, they hit it off, but then Gabriel begins to act weirdly, as if he wants to hurt Rosa, so she barricades herself inside the laundromat. Then a woman (Leonor Valera) comes along and helps placate the situation, except she is in cahoots with Gabriel and it's now a fight for survival for Rosa with a little help from an unknown, silent man. Simple thriller that doesn't exactly stretch itself or set the world on fire. An OK quickie, but not exactly memorable. Well, except for Ana de Armas (Mentiras y Gordas, which has some fine nudity from her) who is absolutely gorgeous and spends the last twenty minutes down to her bra. Well, that's something to recommend the movie I s'pose.

Spanish Update for 5 August...

More Spanish movies, this time we go low rent.

Serie B is a dark comedy thriller about a retired Hollywood B movie actor Willie Molina (Manuel Zarzo), who is enjoying his retirement in the Spanish country. While out hunting one day, he accidentally hits something that let's out a human scream and when he investigates, he finds two women, Lidia (Sonia Monroy) and Mabel (Marta Simonet). Turns out he only grazed Mabel, but he brings them back to his place to tend to her wound. Turns out the women are a little frisky, enjoying a nude swim in his pool and before long they are getting along really well. Until they invite their friend, possibly their pimp, Robin, inside and that's when he attacks Willie and ties him up. In enters the fourth of the group, Katy (Cata Munar). The interlopers enjoy the delights of Willie's house before robbing him, but when Willie fakes an 'asthma attack', Willie takes advantage and locks up Mabel and then plans revenge on the rest. Meanwhile, Katy has discovered that someone is locked up in the guest house and lets, who turns out to be Nina (Núria de Córdoba), out. Maybe that's not a good idea because their one helluva secret to be unveiled, which is going to mean that the interlopers made one terrible mistake invading Willie's hideaway. Never really trying to be nothing more than a celebration of the B movie genre, Serie B is a chintzy little exploitative horror thriller that revels in the clichés and at 75 minutes doesn't mess about with its antics. If you like that sort of thing (and I do), it's a load of fun and by that measure, it's a success.

Spanish Update for 4 August...

Haven't done a lengthy Spanish Update for a couple of years and it's time to go down that road again with quite a few queuing up.

Combustión is a Fast and Furious influenced car racing crime thriller where we follow a crew of car obsessed robbers who modus operandi is for Ari (Adriana Ugarte) to woo rich playboys, find out what they have to steal and where to steal it from and then her best friend Navas (Alberto Ammann) and his brother rob the playboy at gunpoint. Looking for one final big score to get out on, Ari finds Mikel (Álex González), a former elite driver who is about to marry rich girl Julio (María Castro). Both become enamoured with each other, so much so that Ari calls off the planned heist of Mikel. Navas finds out more about Mikel and seems to think he's found a simpatico and becomes friends with Mikel, which sets off a jealousy between friends Ari and Navas for the affections of Mikel. Mikel seems to be interested in the life that they lead, much more interesting than what he is marrying into, particularly the high speed car driving. Then Navas gets in to trouble when he loses a high stakes street race against a dangerous criminal and now they need money fast and there's only one way to get that money, robbing Mikel's now ex-fiance. Far more believable than the new Fast and Furious film (although I did like the film nonetheless), Combustión is a solid entry to the growing car racing heist genre and the central relationships in this film are pretty interesting, although they do seem to mirror the relationships in Fast and Furious. So, worth a look if you're into that thing, plus the bonus of some pretty decent nudity from Adriana Ugarte (Castillos de Cartón - her best nudity, Cabeza de Perro).
