Redux for 29 April...

Not done with the HD reduxes, today the made-for-TV movie Reckless Behaviour: Caught On Tape (it was called Stolen Life here in Australia) that was actually made in New Zealand, so there's a bunch of Kiwi actors throughout (including the two Hannahs below). Terrible and terribly naive movie about a teacher who goes on a holiday with her friends that just happens to coincide with Spring Break. While at the beach they, but particularly Odette's character, is preyed upon by a film crew looking for sleazy footage and get the ladies to 'loosen up'. Then it gets discovered on a porn site and she and her family become pariahs in the community. And don't forget a stalker for more 'punishment'. So, so bad, so much laughable stuff, my favourite being when they need an expert to show that obvious inserts were put into the videos. Also, I thought to myself, who is the New Zealand actor who always plays sleazes and I bet they turn up in this movie and I come up with Mike Edward and lo and behold he turns up as a distributor of the DVDs. Hahaha, of course...

Odette has a scene where she shows some side-boob with obvious patches over nipples, probably the closest we'll ever get to nudity from her. Also forgot that Hannah Marshall (from Packed To The Rafters and The Infinite Man) shows some side-boob in this movie, more than she's ever shown.

I've seen Fear way too many times, particularly for a movie that a fairly straight-forward teen overpossessive boyfriend thriller, but it works well enough. I remember being fascinated with the cover of the movie Tart where she's twirling in a short skirt and then I finally watched the movie and couldn't even be bothered to cap it. Haven't capped her in years, I think the terrible thriller Toxic might've been the last movie I'd even seen her in.

Update for 14 April...

Sticky Notes is a drama about Athena (Rose Leslie), a struggling dancer in Los Angeles who during a dalliance with a stranger Bryan (Justin Bartha), finds out that her father Jack (Ray Liotta) has cancer and is dying. Athena goes to Florida to see her father and much younger sister Honey Bunny, extremely reluctant to do so as he's a complete lunatic and the reason why she fled in the first place. Athena helps nurse him and takes him to doctor's appointments, but then she gets a call back and a chance for her dancing career to take off. After an inevitable fall out with her father, she heads back to Los Angeles but is distracted by how she left things with her father. Athena decides to make one last attempt to connect with her father, but he dies before she can connect one last time. She now has to deal with his death and she doesn't know how. One of those wacky indie movie where characters are wacky or inexplicably do wacky things because that's what people do in indie movies. Also, there's a plot device in this movie that turns out to be a twist that renders a lot of the movie null, but also becomes infuriating the longer this device plays out. It's hard to describe without giving it away and it doesn't really work once it's unveiled. There are some touching moments and Leslie and Liotta are pretty good, but this isn't a good movie.

Update for 6 April...

Because there can be never enough Verónica Echegui, here's another update. While yesterday's update was skimpy with the nudity, today's update more than makes for it.

Me Eestás Matando Susana is a drama where playboy wannabe Mexican actor Eligio (Gael García Bernal) is married to Susana (Verónica Echegui) but one day he finds that Susana has taken off without telling him where she's gone or why. At first it doesn't really bother him then it finally dawns on Eligio that he misses her and he finds out that Susana is actually studying at an American university in Iowa. After some trouble, he finds Susana which she is not happy about as she has well and truly moved on including starting a relationship with a Polish student Slawormir (Björn Hlynur Haraldsson). Eligio's charm wins her back, but he just can't help himself and starts flirting with another student Irene (Ashley Hinshaw) and when Susana catches him kissing Irene, she goes on a getaway with Slawormir to Chicago. Eligio is having none of that and tracks them down, but this time it might be harder for him to win back Susana. OK movie about an unconventional relationship but while it tries to make Susana out as some sort of hero for walking out on playboy Eligio, she crawls back just as quickly mostly negating any ground made. It does have some honest moments which work well particularly when Eligio realises he is the problem, but Susana cannot help falling for this obvious fool and never looks like it's going to go any other way. It's just not a brave movie.

Update for 5 April...

A new Spanish movie which piqued my interest because fave Verónica Echegui is the star of it.

No Culpes al Karma de lo que te Pasa por Gilipollas (the English translation is something like Don't Blame Karma If Your Life Is Ruined By A Bunch Of Arseholes or something like that) is a romantic comedy where feather obsessed fashion designer Sara's (Verónica Echegui) life is about to be turned upside down just as she is finally in a good spot with her long term boyfriend Roberto (David Verdaguer). He is moving to Paris with work for a year, but Sara doesn't want to go even though her fashion shop is failing. She decides to stay, but that turns out to be a big mistake because her model sister Lu (Alba Galocha) is back in town and needs a place to stay and so does her father (Jordi Sánchez) who decides to leave their mother (Elvira Mínguez). To top it off, Lu brings her musician boyfriend Aarón (Álex García) with her, who just happens to be Sara's high school crush she never really got over. As Sara prepares for a fashion show that will hopefully save her business, her home becomes a madhouse while she attempts a long distance relationship with Roberto via Skype. When he comes back for a few days to be with her, Roberto brings his friend Eric (James Williams) to join the madhouse and that's when he drops the bombshell that he's moving permanently to Hong Kong for work. Sara doesn't want to join him, but when her fashion show goes disastrously, she reluctantly joins him where more disaster ensues. Can Sara and Roberto stay together or will something better be around the corner? Familiar romantic comedy where the outcome is never really in doubt and while there's a laugh or two at the zaniness, the movie never really reaches any great heights or stretches itself beyond the obvious.

Bokeh is a drama where two American tourists in Iceland are the only remaining people in the world after an unexplained event and they are forced to live in a foreign land with no way of going home.
