Update for 29 September...

Time to raid the 90s DVD movie collection. Got a request for Raw Nerve which I've never seen before and it turns out it's a batshit crazy corrupt cop thriller where Mario Van Peebles plays a hero cop gone very bad and when he gets found out by internal affairs, he decides to go for one big last score before going on the run with the help of a former cop (Zach Galligan) he cajoles because he saved his arse previously. Van Peebles gets crazier by the minute, dragging his buddy and his very much disgruntled girlfriend (Nicolette Sheridan) along, even having time to cuckold his old buddy while he watches and then kills her. Just a real piece of shit and Van Peebles is loving every minute of it. Definitely did not expect the movie to end up like it did.

So going with a theme I decided to make this update featuring a few of the more batshit crazy movies I have, some I haven't seen like Gummo, Harmony Korine's first movie after writing the screenplay for Kids. And honestly Korine's movies are seriously hit and miss and you'll know within 5 minutes. I loved Spring Breakers way more than I expected too but The Beach Bum and Trash Humpers were absolute trials. Gummo is very much in the absolute trial section, with an awful lot about killing cats and a whole lot of poverty porn. I want to say something was worth watching in the movie so I'll go with the interactions between the 'Gummo Boy' (you'll know who that is when you see him) and his mother which livened things up a bit. Gummo Boy having a spaghetti meal and treat in the bath is definitely something in this movie.

Suite 16 is one of those movies I've wanted see because I remember reading about it back in the day and baffled as to how it actually got a cinema release here. The movie is basically a cat-and-mouse tale about a young con artist (Antonie Kamerling) who fucks and robs lonely middle-aged women until he kills one woman and goes on the run in the hotel, ending up in the suite of a lonely disabled man (Pete Postlethwaite) who decides not to dob him in and lets him hide out if he delights in helping him live his life through him including fucking a helluva lot of prostitutes. But then the stakes get higher when the con artist finally leaves the hotel and meets a young woman (Géraldine Pailhas) who the disabled man lets into their little game. A French but mostly in English thriller that has its moments, Postlethwaite as a dirty old man not far removed from Peter Coyote in Bitter Moon is pretty good but the movie is all show and the plot is predictable with one exception involving a friend of the con artist who seems to come out of the woodwork to add unnecessary extra spice to the plot.

Haven't seen Love & Human Remains in over a decade but this must be the 4th or 5th time I've seen this movie for some inexplicable reason. One of those first R-rated movies I saw on VHS (I seem to remember it also had a cinema release but I was too young) and used to come across every few years for another watch. Not so much a serial killer thriller as a slacker drama that is very much from the 90s, lots of stuff about sexuality very much rooted in the 90s so everyone using gay slurs affectionately in a way that wouldn't happen today except in the gay community, an incredibly hateful misogynist killer who absolutely loses it in the end in a way that almost harms the movie and an 18 year-old Mia Kirshner already looking much older than she did in the next year's Exotica, playing a psychic dominatrix who really should've had a bigger role in the movie. I'll probably end up watching the movie again in a decade or so, hopefully sooner and in HD; there's some good nudity in this movie.

Gone through nearly all of Abel Ferrara's 90s movies since the 90s update started and now it's onto the first movie of his I saw, The Blackout, which I think was the first of his movies that went straight-to-video here. It definitely didn't get a cinema release despite a bit of buzz about it being Claudia Schiffer's first acting role, which is technically true, she did appear in Richie Rich which every ad would scream out every time the movie was on TV. The movie is typical Ferrara fare, lots of manic action focusing around the main character, this time Matthew Modine as an out-of-control actor who after getting off the alcohol and drugs decides to make amends with his former lover Annie (Béatrice Dalle, not someone to fuck around with, haven't you seen Betty Blue...) but it becomes abundantly clear that something bad happened just before he cleaned up his life involving 'Annie' and it's fucking him up all over again. Mostly fine although there are long stretches of Modine breaking down which seem to go on forever plus it has that stupid ending where he swims out to sea (which does end with full frontal nudity from Sarah Lassez, so it's not all bad). Dennis Hopper is way too well cast as a Ferrara doppelganger as manic as ever talking about the future of video and being a 'video artist', not a director. Ferrara's movies are always an acquired taste and The Blackout is exactly what you'd expect it to be: crazy as fuck, nearly unwatchable but ultimately every one is always worth a look.

Update for 23 September...

Being a while since I've seen Havoc, from memory I capped it from a screener back when screeners were only just becoming available but junked it because of the quality. Some great stuff the cap in the movie, a decent amount of nudity from both Hathaway and Phillips and the movie is fairly watchable too even though it's clearly a movie very much of its time, even if its only from 2005. Interesting to see both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum play small roles in the movie as part of the wannabe gangsters. Who even remembers them in the movie? Sadly this is usual HD rip from Amazon, so it's the cut version but looking up what's missing and it's mostly exposition scenes and only a brief couple of shots with nudity from Phillips, less than 2 seconds in total. I'll look for the uncut version although I feel that without a Bluray release that this will be fruitless.

Update for 21 September...

90s weekend continues with Barb Wire, the 1995 comic book action thriller where Pamela Anderson inadvertently attempts to save a notorious professor escape the clutches of a brutal police force while attempting to get money to keep her struggling bar from closing. Never got around to seeing the movie until now and it's pretty much as I thought it would be and it's perfectly fine, exactly as promised. Perfect for its intended audience, horny teenage boys wanting tits, arse and Pamela kicking arse.

Oh boy, that first video where Pamela is stripping while while being hosed down was a fucking disaster to get something decent out it. So much movement in the video meaning it needs to be pretty large to make decent and it's taken a few hours to decide on what was the best balance between size and quality. A high quality video I made is over 800MB, way too large for a not quite 2 minute video. I've gone with 200MB video which is well, it could be better . I'm afraid this scene just is a tough one encode. Shit...

Update for 20 September...

90s weekend. Bloodknot is a B-grade stalker thriller where a woman (Kate Vernon) visits a family whose son just died and tells them that she was his fiance. They've never heard of her but they soon accept her as she seems genuine and she even wins over the stubborn mother (Margot Kidder). But the woman's motives slowly unravel as she seduces the son, teases the father and befriends the young daughter but that's only to butter them up for her revenge. Fairly stock-standard stuff but there's a bit of nudity along the way from Kate, so apart from that there's no real reason to watch it.

Ticks is a creature horror comedy where a bunch of ticks get into a steroid-laced marijuana (!) that's been made in the backwoods and the ticks mutate into huge steroid freaks. Meanwhile, a group of at-risk teens go on a camping trip to the backwoods and a couple of creepy crooks also enter the backwoods to looks at their crop and it's not long before everything turns to shit. Not bad little horror movie but it's not without its issues one being the absolute baffling casting of the son from Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Alfonso Ribeiro, as a tough talking street tough slinging laughably bad street slang that bizarrely doesn't gel with the horror comedy vibe. The plot is nonsensical but the movie has a very welcome crazy second half and you get both Clint Howard and his father in the same movie, so it's double the fun. Also a reminder that Ami Dolenz was one of the great 80s/90s teases.

Update for 16 September...

A couple of new(ish) Australian movies. Skinford: Chapter Two is the continuation of Skinford, a movie turned Blackpills web series that was a wild ride about a conman who unearths an immortal girl (Charlotte Best) while digging his own grave and the trouble they get into with the local crims. Well Blackpills financed the second movie and then went bust before it got released so it's taken a while for any decent release. It did become available on DVD late last year but I ain't paying $30+ for a DVD ever again. Anyway, both Skinford movies just became available on Stan so I decided to take a look but the only way I could get a copy was through screen capture and I've had issues with screen capturing, I can never quite get it right and this attempt is a bit jittery but it's OK and in sync which is at least passable. One scene inexplicably dropped in quality, so there's also that. So when it gets a release in a more accessible place, I'll upgrade the videos and do some collages.

Anyway, there's a bit of nudity in the follow up, sadly not from Charlotte Best but they do replay her nude scene from the original movie in the opening credits but not worth redoing. Both Jess Bush and Georgia Scott have a couple of brief nude scenes and Lara Schwerdt also has a nude scene to go with the one she had in the original. Plus Talia Fowler has a scene with tape over her nipples as well as some other scenes with unknown nude women. The movie itself isn't as much fun as the original and has the feeling it ran out of story so they pad it out with an origin story for Charlotte Best's character which is confusingly mixed with the main plot. There's also a hint that there might be a third movie which would be great with the decent amount of sexy stuff in the first two movies.

Now if only A Name Without A Place can get released online as it sure looks like Charlotte Best has some nude scenes from the trailer of that movie.

Update for 14 September...

90s weekend continue. Indecent Proposal was very much the movie of its time and as always, Hollywood can't do a moral conundrum movie without the characters taking the moral high ground when the reality is so much more palatable. For the most part, the movie is pretty boring, particularly after they decide to take the money and the next hour is all things that would never happen in reality. It isn't hard to see why the movie is mostly forgotten but it does make for a titillating talking point and that's about it.

Also a quick HD update from the movie Love Is All There Is with Angelina Jolie, a movie I have the DVD of and am currently using as a coaster. Anyway, there was a nice little surprise in the HD version with a nip slip from Angelina I've never noticed before.

Update for 7 September...

Digging into the 90s DVD collection again.

(Added 28/11/2023) Strangely, the 1997 drama Going All The Way got a recent director's cut where apparently 50 minutes of extra footage was added to the Bluray release. At quick glance it's about 20 minutes longer plus a bunch of scenes that I capped off the DVD of the movie aren't in the director's cut, so I've included them below. There's also extra scenes and alternate cuts to a couple of sex scenes too but no real extra nudity, in fact one of Amy Locane's nude scenes has been removed and replaced with a scene where she gets fingered in a car. A long forgotten movie and a very odd choice for a 25 years later director's cut but here we are.

Update for 6 September...

90s weekend comes around again. Mikey is one of those 90s 'evil kid' movies but this one is pure B-Grade and starts with a pretty shocking scene where the kid drowns his little sister then kills the rest of his family in a very ugly way. So he manages to bluff cops and psychiatrists into thinking he's the victim and sets up with a new family where he travels on the path of killing his next family. Also, he gets really horny for the next door neighbour who he's never seen so lucky for him it turns out to be Josie Bissett. Ashley Laurence also turns up as a concerned teacher, sadly nothing to cap from her. The movie is better when it's developing Mikey's behaviour towards his next big kill than the murder scenes which are either pretty ugly or too ridiculous. But honestly, the film's too nasty to be any good and plus the lingering promise of someone shooting the kid from Family Ties doesn't end up happening so boooo!

Metamorphosis is a Italian knock-off of The Fly but this was actually made in America with a mostly unknown cast so while it has the look of an 80s-90s Italian horror movie, the actors actually look like they're not being dubbed. The movie is not even in the same universe in quality compared to The Fly and it isn't even interesting as a knock-off although it does have one helluva twist at the end involving dinosaurs that even The Fly couldn't top. The lead actress, Catherine Baranov, only ever appeared in this movie and the trivia section on IMDB has this wild bit of information which lends to the argument that Italian movies never really cared who they cast in their movies.

Update for 1 September...

One more for the 90s weekend. Sunset Grill is another noir thriller where a stereotypical drunken washout private detective (Peter Weller) with an aversion to guns is stuck taking photos of cheating couples until his ex-wife (Alexandra Paul), who he still pines for is murdered in her bar by a couple of goons. So with her cop boyfriend the private detective tries to find out who killed her and why and there's a whole ridiculous plot involving shonky immigration cops, an immigration underworld and a snooty gun club. While the plot is silly and unwieldy, the movie is played fairly tongue-in-cheek throughout with Peter Weller cracking wise whenever the plot slows down and there's a bit of unnecessary but welcome nudity. The movie is a fun watch but the plot is too ridiculous to be considered anything better than OK.
