Update for 31 May...

90s update and today it's the very obscure 1997 Canadian psycho thriller Hysteria, a crazy movie about a psychiatrist (Michael Maloney) who goes to take unwanted patient Veronica (Emmanuelle Vaugier) to a mental institution run by an aging renegade doctor (Patrick McGoohan) but the psychiatrist finds something very off about the doctor's methods. And one of the doctor's helpers Myrna (Amanda Plummer) seems to have a strange amount of control over the patients. The psychiatrist observes the institution and becomes increasingly disturbed by what he sees but he also seems to be getting sucked into the methods being used. Lots of crazy stuff going on in this movie plus some great nudity from Emmanuelle Vaugier in her movie debut (she gets an introducing credit but made a bunch of TV stuff before this). I don't know what the think about the movie. It's a strange, nutty movie with some weirdly alluring scenes but at the same time it's utterly predictable in how it ends.

I'd never been able to find the movie previously as the movie was never released in Australia and I only knew the movie because of Emmanuelle's nude scenes which were lost for a while. Strangely, this movie got a Bluray release somewhere, no idea why but it's been great to see a growing number of mostly forgotten movies from the 90s get a Bluray release, whatever the reason.

Update for 30 May...

Fantasm Comes Again is a 1977 portmanteau sex movie follow up to Fantasm, where Harry (Clive Hearne) is on his last shift as the 'Dear Colette' column of the newspaper and he's helping his replacement Libby (Angela Menzies-Wills) with what to answer to the inquiries. Throughout the night we see recreations of the letters including a woman getting more than she bargained for while reading a sex book in the library. A gymnast gets some extra help from the coach who tells her she can perform better naked. A woman just wants to watch a movie at the drive-in but her boyfriend wants to have sex but when she leaves to get a snack, she is raped and well, she likes it. A virgin gets more than her bargained for when stuck in an elevator with two nymphomaniacs. Uschi Digard comes back to seduce another woman (this time Dee Dee Levitt, who had her pussy shaved in Fantasm). The new typist gets a work welcome she wasn't expecting when she's invited to an orgy. Three women wonder if the aloof lifeguard is gay and decide to find out. Candy Samples delivers another bunch of incest, this time with her step-daughter. A man can't get his girlfriend to have sex with him before marriage but a fast ride through the street is about to change her mind. Finally, Serena receives another religious rogering. Meanwhile, Harry and Libby are getting increasingly drunk and loose with their talk and clothes and Harry thinks he might be in with the new girl.

Apparently the general consensus is that the first movie is funnier and better but I disagree. I find the comedy works better here and a lot less long boring sex scenes than Fantasm. I still don't think either movie is all that good but this movie works better in short, sharp bursts. Some scenes still go forever; the gymnast scene is incredibly long and repetitive. There's still a baffling response to rape and again time hasn't been kind to either Fantasm movie. At least there's still plenty of sex and nudity although sadly Angela Menzies-Wills, in her first movie, doesn't get naked. But as you've seen on the site recent, she's done plenty of nudity in over movies (check last week's update for a complete list). The commentary tells how Angela got the role and it was because she posed naked in a newspaper. And the makers still couldn't get her naked...

Update for 29 May...

Last week I made a brief mention of Fantasm Comes Again so I decided to finally cap the two Fantasm sex movies from the mid-70s.

Fantasm is a 1976 portmanteau sex movie where sex therapist Professor Jungenot A. Freud (John Bluthal) introduces a series of stories involving sex. A woman gets 'full service' at a beauty shop. Another woman fantasises about having sex with her husband's friends during a poker game which unsurprisingly brings them closer together. A housewife fantasises about dominating a woman's clothes fetishist. A woman turns a rape fantasy into something more. Two woman become closer than ever before. A horny wife imagines her dream sexual scenario. A mother 'looks after' her son after he arrives home from Vietnam. A prostitute fantasises how she would like to turn on her clients with an elaborate stripping routine. A naughty schoolgirl tries to get the attention of her teacher. And finally, a woman discovers that her religion is not what she thinks it is. Nearly 50 years later, time hasn't been kind to this movie. Billed as a comedy but the comedy is very weak and mostly from the Professor as most of the shorts are deadly serious or that really unfunny 70s sex comedy. Although directed by Richard Franklin, who would go onto far better movies (Patrick, Roadgames, Psycho 2), Fantasm never feels interesting and while there's plentiful nudity and sex, some of it is incredibly boring. Interesting that all the actors were working in America as apparently they couldn't get anyone in Australia to do the pretty full-on sex stuff. So there's a few familiar names, probably more so for those older than I, also John Holmes has a pretty prominent role in the movie. Get the feeling this movie would've worked way better back in 1976 as a lot of the stuff in the movie is pretty passé.

I have the DVD of both movies that Umbrella released which is pretty good but I had a look around and found a Bluray rip of both movies although it's in fullscreen where the DVD is in widescreen. Because there's so much to cap (over 45 minutes), I decided to just cap the Bluray and the difference between the two in negligible, more head room on the fullscreen Bluray.

I'll cap Fantasm Comes Again maybe tomorrow or next week depending on time.

Update for 27 May...

Capped Marina Gatell from the Spanish TV series La Cocinera de Castamar the other day and I remembered that I have a couple of movies where she had nude scenes in that I have to cap. Well, nude 'scenes' is probably not the word for newly released Dos where she spends over half the movie naked and the other half in a towel. I have a couple of 8 minute videos of her from the movie so there's plenty to see. Pretty fucked movie too about two people who are sewn together and have to try and get out of the scenario while working out why it is happening.

Update for 22 May...

A month or so ago I was looking for today's Australian Classic movie Leonora and came across and capped the other movie the same filmmakers made Fantasy. Also included is another movie made and featuring a bunch of people involved in Leonora.

Leonora is a 1985 erotic romance drama where Leonora (Mandi Miller) is stuck in a dead-end marriage to sleazy car dealership owner Simon (David Evans from Coming Of Age) and reluctantly accepts that he cheats on her rampantly. But she still wants to be involved in his life and he even allows her in his latest commercial, alongside a couple of models he would later have his way with. Leonora catches the eye of video director Mark (Leon Marvell) just in time for Simon to suggest that they should have an open marriage. After some romantic tension between the two, things come to the boil during an out-of-control party where Simon suggests they should have sex, which they do. Then they fall for one another, so much so that Simon decides to end the open marriage but Mark is not having it. One day Mark comes to 'claim' her but during a struggle with Simon, Leonora says that she wants to stay with Simon. Mark isn't giving up and friend Dogon (Ron Becks) tells him to go to his lover Helena (Angela Menzies-Wills), a psychic witch who helps Mark 'change' Leonora's mind with sex-fuelled spells. But it's not working quick enough and one night, Simon and his friends drunkenly attempt to rape Leonora, so Mark gets Helena to quicken up the spell which works but has an unexpected side-effect which could keep Mark and Leonora apart. Absolutely rubbish sex drama that turns into ridiculous melodrama by the end including one baffling scene where after being told that Leonora is about to be raped, Mark goes to Helena instead of doing anything to stop it. It's all very tawdry and neither Simon or Mark are deserving of Leonora who is also somewhat annoying. The ending is very silly and is stopped in an even stupider way. Apart from the sex and nudity, there's no other reason to watch this but at least it doesn't have the psychobabble of Fantasy.

Come and Get It is a 1989 is comedy thriller where Doc (Ron Becks) is an American veteran who's friend, 'nightclub' owner John is killed in Australia by rival Pirate (David Evans) who wants all the clubs in Kings Cross. Doc is bequeathed John's nightclub including all the girls that work there but he is wildly out-of-his-depth although he has someone helpful in Kit (Amanda Hiles) around but she has her own eye on running the club. She and the other girls also want revenge for John's death and Pirate is a lingering threat so Doc and the girls have to stop Pirate and his goons from violently taking over the club. And then John turns up very much alive... Mildly amusing movie that's goes off on weird tangents frequently, no more so when John miraculously returns after we see him riddled with bullets. The final twist about John is absolutely bizarre but it certainly explains why he looks like a reject from White Girls. The movie, written and directed by Becks, is not all that good and at times barely comprehensible but at least it's far more watchable than Leonora and Fantasy.

Both movies are lost to time so they're only available from VHS and it's highly doubtful they'll become available in any better quality. The quality of the copies I have are not all that great, watchable but could be better. Fantasy seems to have been filmed in soft focus so it's fairly cloudy at times while Come and Get It is a bit dark but slightly better.

Most of the actresses featured below are pretty unknown, quite a lot only in one movie. Angela Menzies-Wills has featured a few times on the site, recently in Coming Of Age where she's the lead and is frequently naked but also had brief roles in Felicity and Nightmares. I must get around to capping Fantasm Comes Again (also Fantasm) which she features in. Tanya Ross briefly appears in Come and Get It and her only other credit is featuring in a brief scene in the shitty 1990 magical thriller Sher Mountains Killings Mystery, playing a nude model.

Update for 18 May...

A quick 90s addition today and this one has been bothering me for a while, so it's good to finally finish it. When I first found a copy of it, it turned out that there was no audio in the file so I decided to see if I could find if the original Bluray was available and I got lucky, finding the German release. But I had a whole lot of problems trying to make videos and I could see why the audio was lazily left off by the original capper (lazy because they didn't bother to check before releasing it). So I left it for a few months and decided to have a look at it yesterday and finally was able to sync the audio without issue.

Update for 17 May...

90s update continues this time with the 1992 teen erotic thriller Blown Away with the Coreys and Nicole Eggert and an early role for Kathleen Robertson. Haven't seen the movie since it was a staple of late night Channel 10 in the late 90s/early 2000s and rewatching it now, apart from the pretty decent sex scenes, it's a pretty shitty movie. Love that the teen killers seem to have easy access to sophisticated bombs that they use to kill a whole bunch of people. Not to mention that Nicole Eggert's character is the most guilty character in the history of cinema but the cops are dumber than shit. Ah well, no-one is watching this movie for the plot...

I have capped the movie in HD widescreen plus I found a copy of the fullscreen DVD which shows a little bit more in couple of the scenes.

Update for 10 May...

A new Australian movie, made in Los Angeles about a young lawyer (Alex Russell) who meets singer/songwriter Denny (Liv Hewson) and he becomes interested in Denny but they are not interested at first but he gets under her skin and after a while, they move in together. Then Denny's gender dysphoria becomes stronger and she starts to see themselves as someone else (Denny is then played by Chloe Freeman, Lex Ryan and Bobbi Salvör Menuez) and this affects their relationship and they both attempt to cope with the changes. Interesting movie insomuch that it looks at both the transitioning person and their partner trying to come to turns with the changes. Doesn't have any easy answers but does have a happy ending of sorts.

Update for 1 May...

Again, another Australian weekend update that took way too long so it ends up on Sunday. This is one movie I should've capped years ago.

Journey Among Women is a 1977 period drama set in the early 19th century where Lady Elizabeth (Jeune Pritchard) joins her husband-to-be Captain McEwan (Martin Phelan) at his remote country house where he oversees a women's prison. When Lady Elizabeth looks at the conditions of the prison she is appalled at how the women are treated and makes this known to the Captain. Lady Elizabeth's maid Meg (Nell Campbell) sees her sister dragged to a solitary cell and convinces Lady Elizabeth to help her but when she goes to see Meg's sister, she finds her husband-to-be raping Meg's sister and is shocked. She and Meg hatch a plan to free the women convicts which doesn't quite go to plan ending with Lady Elizabeth killing a top guard who tries to rape Meg. The convicts minus Meg's sister escape with Meg and Lady Elizabeth joining them but it soon becomes clear they have no plan and the guards think they'll be back soon. The convicts are starving and Lady Elizabeth thinks she's made a big mistake then arrives a local Indigenous woman (Lillian Crombie) who is fascinated by their presence and helps them with the foraging for food and water and with making fire. Lady Elizabeth forms a bond with the youngest of the escapees Emily (Rose Lilley) which continues as Lady Elizabeth falls ill until Emily is found brutally murdered at the hand of local fossickers. The women seek revenge and get it by murdering the fossickers. Captain McEwan has had enough of the escapees and decides to bring his wife-to-be back, which she reluctantly does, only to find that he's gotten Meg's sister pregnant and keeping her housed on site. Now the Captain wants all the escapees back or dead but the women have already got a taste for blood and are not going down without a fight.

Wild and woolly revenge thriller that's filthy and is probably the closest I've seen to what conditions would probably have been like at the time. The movie's low budget is to it's advantage as it help bring that grimy, unfettered feeling of the escapees circumstances. The story itself is interesting but feels like it was put together at the last minute so they huge continuity errors like people dying but then being back in the next scene. Characters just disappear randomly, Nell Campbell's hair seems to change colour and other such things. Most of these things are minor though as the story has enough going for it that it constantly fascinating and it doesn't really matter that you don't really know what happens in the end. A strange, fascinating but flawed movie, unsurprisingly noted as feminist but maybe just a more honest look how women where treated in colonial times.

There is a ton of nudity in the movie although not a lot of it is done in an objectifying way. Trying to work out who's who was a bit of nightmare particular as I only knew a few of the actors like Nell Campbell, Lisa Peers, Jude Kuring and Robyn Moase plus the lead actress Jeune Pritchard who would go on to be better known for being a high up in SBS and the ABC. I think I've got it pretty much right and haven't missed anything but I can't be entirely sure although I went back and found I missed little things and remade a few videos. The commentary helped quite a bit at identifying the actresses I didn't know, so thank fuck for that.

I've had the movie since the late 2000s, so for over a decade, where I did watch it back then but just put in the too hard basket until now. Since then Umbrella re-released the movie, not sure it's the same as the late 2000s special edition I got very cheaply at a secondhand store (it was brand new). Knowing my luck, Umbrella will probably release a Bluray of the movie in the near future but at least I'll know what to look out for. I've also included some photos from the set that appeared in a featurette where the filmmakers and Nell Campbell reminisce. The photos are from Nell's sister Sally, who chronicled the shoot as she worked. There's also a couple of shots of a negative where Sally is naked in a makeshift jacuzzi. Also included are a couple of videos from the trailer that are different from what appears in the movie including a reverse view of Nell Campbell sprinting naked away from her captors.
