Australian and New Zealand Actress Nude Guide June 2022

Early Number 96

Finally getting around to looking through the DVD releases of Number 96 that have been around for over 15 years. Anyway, Number 96 was a sexy nightly adult soap that ran from 1972-1977 with 1218 episodes in total and was best known for it's lovable characters but also it's sexy characters and 'shocking' plots.

The series is mostly unavailable except for a few DVD releases from Umbrella which I have and have been looking through when I had the time. There were 3 box set releases, each with 4 discs and 32 episodes in each set. There was also a DVD release around the 1974 movie which I capped back in March. There's some good nudity in the movie from Rebecca Gilling (including full frontal nudity) and Elaine Lee.

Today's update looks at 16 episodes including the first ten episodes also episodes 13, 31, 33–35 and 450 which are the only episodes remaining from the black and white era of the show sadly. I'll leave it to the Wikipedia article to explain:

There is a little bit of nudity in remaining early episodes. In a DVD extra, Abigail mentions that she was never nude on the show and techinically she isn't but there's some very brief moments in these episodes. In episode 1, Abigail models in a see-through shirt where you clearly see her breasts. It's a fairly lengthy scene. In episode 4, Abigail looks at the photos from the shoot and it very much looks like she shows her breasts in various photos. In episode 13, Abigail is left lying naked and afraid after being raped by a producer of play her flatmate is the understudy for. She is left naked in the aftermath (the rape isn't seen) covering her breasts with her arms and in a brief moment we see her bottom as she avoids the touch of her rapist.

In episode 10, Elaine Lee shows her bottom and the side of her right breast as she goes to put on a gown after she's been raped by her husband. One thing that is alarmingly common on Number 96 is the amount of rape and sexual assault is on the show and most of it is shown rather flippantly. The best example of this is the opening scene of the movie.

In episode 13, a couple of hippies go to the laundry and strip off to their clothes so they can wash them, leaving both in just their underpants. Turns out the washing machine isn't working so there's extra time in seeing both hippies naked. We see the woman's breasts although she mostly covers her breasts throughout the lengthy scene. Both hippies are uncredited in the episode but on IMDB the hippies are credited as Cathy Jones and Chard Hayward and the male hippie is definitely Chard as he would later play a major role on the show as a different character so I can only assume that Cathy Jones is also correct.

In episode 9, a model is posing for a photographer and when she gets up to put on clothes, we briefly see full frontal nudity but mostly just her breasts in the background. She is uncredited in the episode and not listed on IMDB.

You can find all of the videos from the early episodes at JMTV or at the archive. There's plenty of sexy stuff, particularly underwear scenes and plenty more from Abigail.

I will go over the further 80 episodes available in a later update but I can already tell you that there is no nudity in any of the episodes, in fact some stretches of the episodes have very little to cap. I'll also go over the featurettes on the movie DVD which seem to have some snippets of nude scenes. Since it's been about 10 years since the last release of episodes, it's highly doubtful they will be available any time soon. Maybe ViaVision, the people behind the Chances releases can help out there.

Oversight: Lisa Lackey

With Chances updates complete it's time to move on but with what? I have a few ideas but they're either a lot of work or a way off completion. So here's something quick.

Lisa (Elizabeth) Lackey was a model who joined Home and Away in 1992 and had a successful and highly popular run on the show until 1995 before moving onto shows like Australian shot US remake of Flipper. She then moved to the States and regularly got work on TV and the occasional movie (she has a brief role as well-known actress too 'good' for the role in Mulholland Drive) but no real stand-out role before quitting acting in 2011.

In 2000, Lisa played a part in the final episodes of the US cable TV show Rude Awakening starring Sherilyn Fenn and Jonathan Penner that ran for three series from 1998-2001. I remember the show played late on Channel 10 early on and I watched an episode or two, probably with the promise of nudity but got bored with the low rent, sparse feel of the show. I doubt Channel 10 played past the first series anyway. They were always the worst offenders of moving and staying loyal to TV shows. Anyway, I finally found a copy of the show so that I could make videos from her appearance. It's not HD but it's from a TV rip and it's decent quality.

Lisa played the character of Raquel, an Australian pilot living in Los Angeles who meets Dave (Jonathan Penner) after she can't pay for her meal at his cafe and accepts a date with him which turns into a relationship and then they decide to get married leading to a bizarre cliffhanger where Dave has to choose between Raquel and Billie (Sherilyn Fenn) just as he's about to say 'I do'. The cliffhanger was never resolved as the show ended leaving it all up in the air.

Lisa appeared in 6 episodes in all starting with episode 8 of series 3 ('How Was Your Date?") where she first appeared nude after her character had sex with Dave. She has another nude scene in episode 11 of series 3 ('Three Men and a Womb') again after sex with Dave where she's looking for more sex but Dave is 'buggered'. They are a couple of decent scenes from Lisa with a fairly lengthy look at her breasts.

I've included collages and various videos from her appearance on the show below. As far as I know, she hasn't done any further nudity although she has a brief side-boob scene in an episode of CSI. Her credits don't suggest there could be more as it's mostly US network TV but if anyone has any further details, I'd be interested. Chances: The End Of Everything

Was planning a final Chances update in a few weeks but it turns out that there isn't a lot to cap in the last few episodes and even less nudity plus I wanted to see what happened in the end. As always, Chances goes incredibly broad so in the final episodes we get Nazi vampires, one with a dodgy heart, attempting to commit their own Kristallnacht against Wanda (Danielle Fairclough) who's apparently a Valkyrie and the key to their survival. The devil disguised as an Elvis impersonator with more terrible puns than you can even imagine. Sean (Stephen Whittaker) gets his chance to deflower Wanda only to get severe panic attacks while Alex (Jeremy Sims) might finally get what he's always wanted: all of Crowley Lander's wealth and to sleep with business partner/nemesis Angela (Patsy Stephen). Plus Genevieve (Ann Rigby) is back and very much involved.

The final episodes are much more plot heavy so the sexy stuff is pushed aside somewhat. But there are a few nude scenes to discover.

Episode 116 - Contained

Probably the most well-known nude scene(s) in the series appear in this episode from Kate Langbroek, who would later become better known for her television (The Panel, where her nude scene was first mentioned) and Melbourne radio work. Here she is uncredited as an acolyte of Crowley Lander apparently named Severity de Sade (although she's only mentioned as Miss de Sade) who just loves torturing Cal (John Vincent) and Madelaine (Karen Richards) who are stealing treasures from one of Crowley Lander's ships. She also seduces fellow acolyte Carlos (Quintin George), exposing her breasts and then later we see her breasts as she lounges after sex with Carlos before she unceremoniously disappears, never to be seen again. A rather pointless role but no complaints otherwise.

The only other nudity in the episode comes from a brief replay of a scene from episode 86 where Alex remembers all the fun he's had in his bed, specifically remembering being with Genevieve (Ann Rigby) and we again see her bottom as she sleeps in bed while Alex admires her. Episode 118 - The King is Dead

Ha ha, this scene is so ridiculous. Alex goes to tell off Crowley Lander's new wife Lily Lo (Katherine Li) but he is weakened by Crowley attempting to inhabit his body and become him. Lily notices this, so she forces him to kiss her breasts and with the help of Carlos, he does. We briefly see Katherine's right breast.

Episode 121 - Bloodlines

The final nude scene of the show and it's Lily receiving a massage from Carlos while nude and we see Katherine's bottom then her breasts when she turns over.

There is no nudity in the rest of the series.

 

So how does it end (EXTREME SPOILERS AHEAD if you are planning to watch it at some stage): Dr Caldura (Mark Neal), who is actually Dracula (an anagram of Caldura), kidnaps Wanda because she possesses a blood type that is similar to his imcompetent, Tweety Bird talking nympho sister Circe (Liza-Mare Syron). He is going to give his sister her heart with the help of another bunch of Nazis but things go wrong. Alex kills Caldura in a sword fight when he gets distracted by Circe who grabs him to ask for forgiveness for her incompetency as she is dying. Caldura dies, so does Circe eventually from her gunshot wound from a Nazi. Meanwhile Sean, who was shot by the same Nazi, miraculously survives as the bullet hits a metal object in his pocket and he gets to 'save' Wanda.

The ailing Crowley Lander is still alive but is now in the body of some alter ego of Alex after he couldn't enter Alex's body, so he's vulnerable. Bogart Lo (Lawrence Mah) tells Alex that he's the only one who can kill Lander although he'll help where he can. Genevieve arrives back and visits Alex but there's something different about her.

Lander as Alex's alter ego tells Lily, his wife, that he has no interest in her so she decides to fake Lander's will so she gets everything.

Wanda hacks into a Lander supercomputer (using the password 'Big Tits') and finds out that Lander created HIV (what the fuck???). Lander is planning on bringing more pestilance to the world and plans to do it by a computer virus that infects a person when they see it on the computer. A virus that Lander seems to be immune from.

Bogart Lo suggests to Angela that she is the woman that Alex loves and she is taken aback but eventually gives in and Alex and Angela finally, properly have sex.

Lander drugs Alex with something called Apocalypse, a variant of Chaotica (which Bill earlier became addicted to) and then gives Alex a gun with 5 bullets in it and asks him to choose between trying to kill him (Lander) and end up working for him or try to shoot himself and end up in suspended animation forever. Alex chooses to shoot Lander but gets an empty chamber.

Wanda becomes suicidal at the thought of the coming apocalypse so she decides to kill herself by drinking a potion she gets from Bogart and Sean is convinced to join her with the lure that he might finally have sex with her.

Bogart Lo with a mystic and then some unexpected help from Wanda, finds the key to killing Lander: a dog, similar to the one Lander killed as a boy to please Stalin (this would take too long to explain but it turns out Lander is the son of Rasputin).

Genevieve visits Alex and tells him that Wanda has what he needs to take down Lander. Wanda gives Alex a dog like the one Lander killed. Alex confronts Lander on a cliff and threatens to throw the dog over the cliff but Lander stops him. They get into a tussle and both fall off the cliff and Lander dies. Alex somehow survives without a scratch (I'm assuming this happened in the mind but I have no idea). The dog survives too.

Wanda and Sean go to drink the deadly potion and then have sex before they die but Angela bursts in before they drink and says that Lander is dead and the apocalypse and Sean's chance to have sex with Wanda is off.

Alex is visited by Genevieve who tells him she's an angel and introduces him to her boss, God, who turns out to be a ball of light. They tells Alex what he has to do. All this takes place in the main room of the State Library of Victoria. Also Madonna's book Sex (which is a helluva turnaround as the book was released late 1992, not long before the episode aired), The Satanic Verses, Future Shock and Lady Chatterly's Lover are somehow involved.

At the office, everyone is celebrating avoiding the apocalypse/Lander's death. Bill (Michael Caton) asks new virgin (way too long to explain) Sharon (Mercia Deane-Johns) to marry her and she accepts. Sharon is also pregnant (can't say who the father is possibly Bill but it could be Dr. Caldura). Alex arrives with the dog and tells everyone he's inherited everything of Crowley Lander's through his marriage to Imogen (Ciri Thompson) and their son (who he was supposed to kill). He tells everyone to get back to work but before he enters his office, he takes out a bunch of lottery tickets and throws them at everyone annoucing 'some win' (the show started with Alex's family winning the lottery and 'some win' is a reference to a oft repeated prominent lyric in the theme song).

So what happened to the actresses of Chances? Most of them didn't really have any further credits as if it was a mark against them from being in the show. From the early episodes, Mercia Deane-Johns (Sharon) still acts regularly, mostly in guest roles as she has been since 1973's Alvin Purple (didn't know she was in the movie, I'll have to check to see where she is). Patsy Stephen (Angela) only appeared in an episode of Water Rats after Chances. Natalie McCurry (Rebecca) didn't do a lot, Cathy Godbold (Nikki) had a few prominent roles like Annie Jones' sister in the sitcom Newlyweds and one of the mothers in the kids show The Saddle Club. Sadly both Natalie and Cathy and also Leverne McDonnell (Phillipa) died before reaching 50. Kimberley Davenport didn't do a lot of acting period but appeared in failed 1995 Channel 10 soap opera Echo Point, best known as early roles for actors like Rose Byrne and Martin Henderson.

Actors from later series nearly all but disappeared. Karen Richards' only other role was in her brother's movie Black Neon, which I capped recently. Katherine Li, Danielle Fairclough and Molly Brumm never really acted again although I remember Danielle introducing WB cartoons around that time. Funnily enough someone mentioned to me when I first capped the show over 15 years ago that Danielle (who was 18 at the time) had signed on to do nude scenes before it was cancelled but I don't believe that as the show was failing miserably and was only been kept alive by pervy execs wanting more plus the show had a fairly realised closure that seemed to be building for a while. She did have some nice underwear scenes though and the virginal angle worked for her. Abigail barely acted again and was the subject of a very infamous 'Where Are The Now?' article on A Current Affair in the 2000s which is probably on YouTube. She's still alive though.

Some guest stars like Tammy MacIntosh, Annie Jones and Carolyn Bock still act regularly. Also while checking out some names I came across a few that became anti-vaxxers which is a development (I won't say who).

 

What did I think of the show? It started off slowly like a normal adult soap, got a bit interesting when a character was murdered but was never really that great of a show. The turn to sexy silliness at least made the show more watchable but at the same time some of the ideas were so ridiculous or overwritten that I couldn't explain or understand some of them. Even the ending was some metaphyscial nonsense I can't fully explain. I definitely enjoyed the second half more than the first half.

Chances: Guess Who's Back?

A few actresses return, some in the same role and others in a different role. Katherine Li's Lily disappeared both off screen and in character somewhere around episode 103 (I can't even remember how but I think it was only mentioned in passing as her plane going down and was not actually shown). She reappears in episode 112 bringing a Tarzan-like man named Gerrard who charmingly speaks French but is actually a God named Utangi and the next bunch of episodes are full of culturally-sensitive things like Utangi barely keeping it together as a cultured French speaking man causing women to be spooked by an 'ape-like' man. They even roped in Australian high hurdler champion Kyle Vander-Kuyp to play a native tour guide...

Also coming back is Rebecca McKenzie, who had a recurring nude scene that was replayed regularly starting from episode 71 and then turned up to be sexually harrassed by Angela (Patsy Stephen) and Madelaine (Karen Richards) in episode 88. Her character here is well... see episode 112 below. Ciri Thompson returns as the mute wife of Alex (Jeremy Sims), now with child who may be not what he was expecting.

Episode 112 - White Cargo

Segal (Kim Donnell) is still manipulating Alex and using him for sex and we again see Kim's breasts and briefly her bottom as she lays naked in wait for him. Things don't end well for Segal when she's killed by Crowley Lander acolyte Carlos (Quintin George), who may or may not be her brother, by the end of the episode.

Dim-bulb Sean (Stephen Whittaker) becomes a partner in Bogart Lo's (Lawrence Mah) casino and as a welcoming present, brothel owner and fellow partner Emerald (Cathy Purling) gives him one of the fringe benefits of partnership, which is to have sex with her. Cathy takes off her dress and we see her breasts and also her bottom briefly as they play around on the casino tables. Not the only time someone has sex on the casino tables, I hope they are cleaned regularly. Anyway, Sean is being used by Bogart so that he can be manipulated later. Purling also had a nude scene in episode 103.

Finally, Cal (Gerard Sont) is forced by Bogart to find his missing daughter Lily and ends up in a jungle in a place called Sambuka (someone was definitely drinking when they come up with this). Turns out Lily has already made her way back home and Cal is captured by local tribeswomen led by Lagoona (Rebecca McKenzie). He is forced into doing 'The Ordeal', which is where the tribeswoman have sex with him from dusk to dawn or he'll be turned into meat (I can't even make this up, even Gerard Sont seems to be laughing himself silly for what is happening). We see Rebecca's breasts a number of times throughout the episode as she only wears a skirt. Cal also manages to survive the night but not without consequences that will be exposed in episode 115.

Episode 113 - The Beast Within

Cal arrives back from Sambuka via freight and is dumped into a locked room with his on-again and supposedly off-again girlfriend Madelaine, who Bogart has handcuffed and also put in the locked room. They reconnect while handcuffed and try to have sex but are interrupted by Bogart. We briefly see Karen's breasts as they attempt sex while handcuffed (not to one another).

With Lily back, one thing remains the same: she's always horny. And wouldn't you know it, she's set her sights on who else but Alex, newly free of Segal. They have sex and we see Katherine's breasts and bottom.

Episode 114 - Utangi

Madelaine hooks up with Gerrard (Peter Lindsay), who is actually Utangi and she decides to have a shower, giving Gerrard the offer to join her in the shower. But he doesn't end up joining her because Bogart has called him away, so she goes downstairs and finds him gone. We see Karen's bottom and possibly her right breast briefly while in the shower.

Sean and Alex come up with a bet to see if Sean could bed Lily and well, he manages to do so which is all good and well until Alex rats him out and Lily gets her revenge on Sean later in the episode. We see Katherine's bottom and the side of both of her breasts while she's entering and in the bath and then her breasts later as she lays in bed with Sean.

Episode 115 - Barco Dorado

Last of the cast changes for the series in this episode. A bunch of oldies have been dumped so no more Dan (John Sherrin), his ex Barbara (Brenda Addie) and sex therapist Bambi (Abigail) while Katherine Li, Lawrence Mah and Danielle Fairclough, who plays the virginal Wanda, are added to the main cast. And for some reason Gerard Sont is out but his character of Cal is still in the show, now played by John Atkinson, who a bit of soapie mainstay.

Anyway, one nude scene in this episode and it's from Rebecca McKenzie playing tribal leader Lagoona who's always getting around topless. This time Utangi has arrived back in Sambuka and the tribe celebrate but it's interrupted by a volcano erupting and killing them all. Ouch!

So what's coming up: Well the pickings are a bit slim in the next bunch of episodes but possibly the most famous of nude scenes in Chances occurs in episode 116 and strangely the actress is not credited in the episode. Hmm...
