Update for 29 November...

One more from the DVD collection. Stealing Candy is a not bad B-movie thriller where three bozos (Alex McArthur, Coolio and Daniel Baldwin) decide to kidnap a movie star and nudity dodger (Jenya Lano) and force her to do a live sex show on the internet and watch the money roll in. Except, there don't seem to be much resistance from the movie star and the whole thing goes off without a hitch, netting a massive $13 million. Then Coolio, just out of prison, loses his mind and wants to fuck the movie star and the simple plan goes to shit real fast. A fairly straightforward thriller that doesn't really hide its twists very well and I'm surprised the ridiculously simple plan hasn't been exploited by more down and out stars. They might not get $13 million but people are always up for some celebrity skin (points at self in the mirror). The movie never really sets any great heights but rolls along nicely enough and as a B-movie, it satisfies. Is it a great movie? No, but it works and that's more than you can say about most B-movies.

Update for 28 November...

After all these updates I can almost touch the bottom of the bottomless pit, 29 DVD movies in 5 days. Six more today.

A couple of movies starring Katherine Heigl in today's update. Descendant is an absolute dogshit horror movie where two people who are distantly related to Edgar Allan Poe fall for one another and it turns out the man is haunted by the ghost of Poe and starts killing people who are known to the woman until he finally centers his bloodlust onto her. Just so many silly scenes in this movie, not in the least the dopey brother of Heigl who wants to rape her, gets 'murdered' by her boyfriend and dumped in the forest, then days later, the man tries to murder Heigl at the front of the forest and she is saved by the rapey brother who's been lingering for days. Then he actually gets murdered and nobody cares. And the rapey brother is not the only one who is left for dead for days and then magically comes back to help Heigl. Just a terrible movie, pretty much Katherine Heigl's career nadir which she managed to turn around. The same can't be said for her co-star Jeremy London who's been stuck in B-grade hell since.

My memory is that Katherine Heigl in Descendant was one of the first nudity predictions that turned out to be a bust. There was a fair amount of anticipation at the time but the movie got shelved for a while before getting a release somewhere in Europe, maybe Russia and that's when the anticipation died. She would tease further in the low budget comedy Side Effects which is also featured in today's update. Ah well...

Hard to believe that there's a worse movie than Descendant in this update but I.R.A: King Of Nothing, from scam director and one time well-known actor Damian Chapa (Blood In, Blood Out, Street Fighter), where he bafflingly plays a man who wants to fight for the I.R.A., only to get caught up in a ridiculous plot that makes no sense and I'm sure pisses all over history. Chapa became a very independant filmmaker after his acting career stalled and started making numerous movies where he just 'forgot' to pay his actors and crew regularly. I don't even know if anything after this movie got released despite making over 20 more movies since but this is definitely the last movie of his that got released in Australia and rightfully so.

That'll do for miscellaneous DVD movies. Too much, too fast...

Vampire Diary is an arty British lesbian vampire movie where a documentary filmmaker (Morven Macbeth) falls for her subject, a vampire (Anna Walton) and they begin a relationship but then the vampire goes cold turkey when she becomes pregnant and that only makes her hungier and people close to the documentary filmmaker become her victims. Interesting movie but very odd and the documentary style is a bit frustrating but there's some decent girl-girl scenes and some good violence.

More from DVD. Talk about a movie that is pretty much forgotten, who even remembers The Invisible Circus, a political thriller/love story where a young woman (Jordana Brewster in her second movie after The Faculty) goes to Paris to find out why her sister (Cameron Diaz) killed herself by asking her ex (Christopher Eccleston) who ends up telling a tortured tale involving joining a European left-wing political group and then they fall in love. I remember this movie getting a cinema release back in the day but there's no way it would today, a very minor movie with a surprsingly decent cast.

A couple of movies starring Alexandra Holden, it was pretty rare she had the female lead in movies, usually playing the best friend but not in these two movies (and Wishcraft).

Update for 25 November...

Continuing to go through some DVD movies I have. The Sitter is a horror movie that plays exactly like a stalker TV movie, so much so that at first glance it could easily mistaken for a TV movie. Except the violent scenes in the movie are extremely violent which is great but it jars with the unmistakable TV movie vibe and cast. Very odd mix.

Neil's Party is one of the numerous sex comedies that were made to cash in on American Pie because they were cheap to make and if you put tits on the cover of any movie, one half of the potential audience will immediately gravitate to it, even if it's obvious dog shit. Neil's Party is that but British. The plot follows the American Pie formula closely, 18 year-old virgin wants to get laid, particularly to his good friend (Lauren Bigby) but is clumsy and his rubbish friends are only giving him bad advice and strangely following him around as he bumbles from woman to woman and gets into some highly embarrassing scenarios. Also, his friends are also terrible around women and want to get laid. So, with his parents out-of-town, they have the obligatory party where all their dreams come true, well sort of. This movie is totally low rent and some of the acting is very amateurish, unsurprisingly none of the actors have done much since. One thing in the movie's favour is that there is a fair amount of nudity and by some of the actresses in the larger roles which isn't always the case in low budget sex comedies. Otherwise, forget it.

Update for 24 November...

Was going to do a 90s DVD update but couldn't be bothered so instead I started going through a bunch of random DVD movies from the 2000s-early 2010s that are clogging up the hard drives, some being there for 3-4 years. Hell, I've got no idea what some of them are: Proof Of Love, no idea why I got that movie but if I could hazard a guess, it would be because Kathleen Robertson is in it, but there's nothing to cap from her and barely anything more than a breast holding scene from female lead Miranda Kent (who?). Also a bunch of early 2000s stuff that I must've tried to shoehorn into making 90s movies. The quality of the White Rush DVD is appalling, I almost junked it, not sure I shouldn't have but I saw other caps and it looks like it's just generally shit. Also, it looks like you see a bit more of Shannon Lucio's breast in the fullscreen version of Starkweather but of course the Australian DVD is in the proper aspect ratio.

More over the coming days, I want to make a huge dent in the clutter. They'll even be some movies you might've heard of and some even starring well-known actresses.

Update for 22 November...

90s weekend time and after capping some 90s Hong Kong movies recently, I thought I'd see what other foreign movies I could find.

Capped German actress Veronica Ferres last month in Ladies Room, so when I came across the German farce Schtonk which I knew she had some nude scenes in, I decided to cap it. Not a bad movie about a forger of Nazi memorabilia who is inspired by a journalist who is interested in Nazi artifacts to fake the Hitler Diaries, the biggest score of them all.

Haven't seen director Álex de la Iglesia's debut movie Acción Mutante since the mid-90s on SBS, so having another look at it and it has a few of his hallmarks including a wacky plot and farcical situations but it also very much feels like an early movie in someone's career. The plot here is a bit silly and underdeveloped but the farcical stuff is far more developed. Basically, a madman and his ragtag group of disabled criminals kidnap the daughter of a rich businessman but the madman double-crosses his team and decides to take ask for more money and keep it for himself. After the police shoot down their spaceship, the madman and the daughter land on a Mad Max-type planet where no woman lives while one remaining from the ragtag crew goes after the madman to get what's his. There's some good stuff here: a party which was no doubt inspired by producer Pedro Almodovar (some of his regulars even make cameo appearances at the party) descending into madness where barely anyone gets out alive. A bizarre ongoing farce of a conjoined twin being murdered and the other conjoined twin having to drag around his murdered brother including a bizarre scene being hung by a noose. And a ransom exchanged filmed for live television in a bar full of absolute desperados. The signs of de la Iglesia's nuttiness are there but they are not completely realised.

Update for 21 November...

Haven't done some reduxes in a while and a few became available in HD recently so it's time for an upgrade.

I had previously upgraded Boot Camp back in April but the only HD version was the edited version, so the scene where we see Mila's blurred breasts was missing. Well, for whatever baffling reason, someone decided to release the uncut movie to Bluray in Europe, not exactly sure here but the copy I found has Hungarian subtitles, so I think you can narrow it down from there. So finally, the complete uncut version of videos from Boot Camp are now available.

And sometimes I just do too much, as in Haven, which this is the third time I've capped it and enough is enough, it's not worth it for such meagre returns.

Update for 17 November...

One more for the 90s weekend, this time a low budget slacker/punk teen movie called Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore. Basically the story of high school student Jane (Lisa Gerstein), who has sex for the first time and hates it so much she vows to her friends that she will never do it again. Jane works in an arthouse cinema in the city with the slackest work conditions ever so when they're not talking to one another, they're partying in the cinemas. Everyone seems all grown up but Jane is an A-student suburban girl who seems to fit in just fine and wants to break out of her suburban hellhole and from her strangely absent parents. Along the way she discovers masturbation and then a friend gives her a sexual experience that she'll never forget. A tragedy will put a new perspective on that experience as well as the actions of her fellow workers at the cinema. May be a stretch calling it a punk movie as the movie is fairly straightforward but it does have a mostly punk soundtrack and a decent cameo from Jello Biafra doing a 3 minute rant over the end credits. The movie is mostly conversations between various characters which vary in interest but it does get more interesting after the sexual experience with a friend that takes a turn into some life lessons after that friend dies in a drunk driving incident. I'm surprised that this doesn't happen more in the movie as nearly every time someone drives in this movie, they're drunk, so when someone actually dies this way, it doesn't feel like much of a surprise. The movie has that 90s indie feel about it but it feels closer to a far less funny Clerks (it's not really a comedy) than it does to other indie darlings from the period. All in all, I thought it was OK and best viewed as a relic of the time than anything more than that.

I also found the DVD of The Last Of The High Kings that I hadn't got around to capping before a HD copy became available, so I've included some fullscreen videos from the movie, which show a little bit more, not necessarily more nudity but slightly more below the image. Sadly, the second video with Lorraine Pilkington is a lot darker and harder to make out the darker parts of that scene but otherwise fine.

Update for 16 November...

90s weekend continues.

The Advocate (also known as The Hour Of The Pig) is an absolute wild card of a movie. Basically, it's a 1993 British movie set in France in the 1500s where a lawyer (Colin Firth) is sent to a country town and finds himself on a tough learning curve. Turns out that animals can be prosecuted and a big pig has been accused of killing a young boy, which is owned by a local Gypsy woman (Amina Annabi), who he falls for and decides to do his utmost to get the pig off. Amazing concept for a movie and everywhere seems to list the movie as a drama but it's a lot closer to a bawdy satire, a lot of scenes played for laughs as this is a ludicrous plot for a movie. I wouldn't say it's a great movie but it's a surprisingly fun movie, a lot different than I was expecting and definitely a weird one.

Of course, Harvey Weinstein got involved in the production and put his grubby little hands all over it. He made wild changes to the movie including inserting novels of information at the beginning and end of the movie because apparently Americans are incredible dumbarses like he is and need everything explained to them. He also inserted this baffling message to the start of the movie, lord knows why because it's hardly a twist. Just incredible meddling, business as usual from that arseclown.

He also made cuts to the movie for the American release and I got the American cut, of course. As far as I can make out the only thing missing seems to be a brief moment at the end of the first Sophie Dix video where Sophie has her skirt lifted up to reveal her bottom. I think that's it (although I'm not sure), hopefully the movie as The Hour Of The Pig becomes available, I'm sure it's on DVD uncut somewhere.

Also, I've done a HD redux of The Last Of The High Kings, a movie I first capped back in 2004. Turns out Harvey Weinstein got his grubby little hands on this one too, but as far as I can tell, he didn't tamper with the movie itself but inexplicably the title of the movie in America is Summer Fling and while I can't confirm it, there's certainly a whiff of something that he'd do.

Update for 15 November...

90s weekend update time.

Clay Pigeons was one of those black comedies about a series of murders that was all the rage in the late 90s (see also Fargo, The Last Supper, To Die For, Very Bad Things and Goodbye Lover). Most of them were incredibly hateful as so is Clay Pigeons, maybe a place below Very Bad Things on the hatefulness ladder (nothing beats Very Bad Things), but not far off. Within about 40 minutes, 4 people are dead and all in pretty revolting ways. Joaquin Phoenix is well cast basically playing his character from To Die For. That Vince Vaughn smile sure can convince you he killed a bunch of people or sell you something you don't need. It's not a particularly good movie plot wise but it does have a decent cast including the aforementioned two, Janeane Garofalo toning it down surprisingly as she seems to be in her element here. Also British actress Georgina Cates, as a real piece of shit widow who just becomes more hateful when she doesn't get her way before being slaughtered in a pretty unsavoury way, thankfully not seen. Georgina had a brief spurt of movies in the mid 90s ending with Clay Pigeons and then she quit acting, married Skeet Ulrich, had a couple of kids then came back over a decade later for the Bad Grandpa movie. I quite liked seeing her in movies in the 90s, such a shame it ended suddenly. Anyway, one of my favourite movie stories is the one about how she's not even Georgina Cates at all and just made her up to get a role in An Awfully Big Adventure.

Never heard of Desperate Obsession and looked like another turgid 90s TV movie. Well, it opens with a surprisingly lengthy nude sex scene and then turns into one of the most hamfisted, low rent movies I've ever seen. A baffling yet unsurprisingly predictable stalker thriller where a wannabe doctor (Dana Boncristiani) has a stressful day and goes for a run to get it out of her head, only to be shot with a tranquilliser gun and raped although she doesn't know it just yet. She is attacked again which she thinks it just a really hungry mosquito (!) and it's starting to effect her work. Turns out she's pregnant despite not having sex and having no idea she's being raped and makes the decision to end her medical career and have the baby but she decides to give it to her more than willing best friend (April Breneman). Anyway, she has the baby then decides to keep it, annoying the friend but she stays patient. The plot twist is incredibly fucked but it's telegraphed so early in the movie. And the reveal is incredible, the sloppiest villain of all time, they actually leave a vial of semen in the fridge (!) for over a year. The movie is amateurish at best, music constantly drowns out the dialogue, so much so that the subtitles have numerous moments where it just says 'muffled', not helped by one guy with a French accent which is near impossible to pick up at times. There's a bizarre scene where an 'active shooter' (I can't believe I'm typing these words) enters the hospital and it's pure comedy right down to the psycho head doctor who just happens to have a tranquilliser gun to stop him with. Oh and it turns out everyone has a tranq gun for some reason, I'm flummoxed. There's a dream sequence that's impossible to describe, something about dancing flaming skulls raping, I got nothing. And let's not forget the doctor who loves touching women's breasts or the doctor who takes a piss during a surgery. Definitely a contender for the worst film of the 90s...

Update for 12 November...

Some quick updates. Never heard of The Elder Son, pretty sure it was never released here in Australia and looking at the date, it looks like it sat on the shelf for a while. It says it was a 2006 film but most release dates are 2008/2009 and then there's a scene set outside a cinema where a poster for the movie May is seen, released in America in 2003. Pretty forgettable movie but one thing piqued my interest is that Rade Serbedzija and Leelee Sobieski again play father/daughter as they did in Eyes Wide Shut. No mention of why the father changed his mind on letting his barely teenage daughter 'hang out' with a bunch of perverts, which is disappointing. Not really much to mention about the movie but it is a bit odd and has an ongoing comedy incest plotline which probably won't excite too many people.

Update for 10 November...

One more Hong Kong movie for the 90s update.

There was a recent Bluray of the 1991 fighting robots exploitation classic Robotrix and I've finally gotten around to having a look at it. I'm not sure I've seen the uncut version as the Australian version was butchered (a lot of Hong Kong movies were), I would say probably not, so it's great to finally see the uncut version. It's still as silly and ridiculous as it ever was with plenty of naked women and as always, the world's greatest tease, Amy Yip, doing what she did best.

Basically, the plot is after being shot dead by a rogue robot with the mind of psychopath, a female cop Selena (Chikako Aoyama) is given new life in the form of a newly designed robot by Dr Sara (Hiu-dan Hui) against her will but once she accepts it, she initially doesn't tell her cop boyfriend that she's a robot and goes on living as if she magically survived. Meanwhile, the rogue robot is killing and raping his way around the place and after an impressive display, Selena along with Dr. Sara's first prototype Ann (Amy Yip) are tasked to join the hapless police force to catch the rogue robot. Also, Selena sleeps with her boyfriend and seems to enjoy it despite being a robot so Ann decides to try sex but feels nothing. Then the rogue robot sets his attention on eliminating Dr. Sara and the female robots but they are not going to go down without a fight. Pretty simple plot which is stopped every once in a while to show a bit of sex and nudity and then it's back to some good old gratuitous violence. Yeah, it's silly but it's exactly what it should be and a lot of fun along the way.

God damn Amy Yip was a frustrating actress to watch, always getting naked and never showing anything much, maybe Sex And Zen if you're quick on the pause button (plus I'm a Sex And Zen 2 fan, Qi Shu forever) but never anything more than a tease. Hell, I've seen Erotic Ghost Story way too many times and she was so hot in that movie particularly the lesbian scene yet still all tease. Now, that's a series that needs a Bluray upgrade, not Raped By An Angel. Only ever seen Erotic Ghost Story 2 once when I finally got the nerve to get the VHS of that movie back in the day but barely remember it now and never seen the third. Seen a couple of other Amy Yip movies but can't remember which and her filmography is tough to distinguish what movies that they were (maybe Haunted Jail House was one of them, that seems familiar), all I remember she was teasing in them.

90s update continues with two more from the Raped By An Angel series.

Raped By An Angel 3: Sexual Fantasy Of The Chief Executive with its unwieldy title, takes a detour into something that is more of an erotic thriller in the vein of something like Disclosure. Anyway, a serial rapist is raping women in the office of a high profile chief executive who is running for political office. But that's not his problem because his problem is he gets visions of naked women and it drives him crazy but not in the good way. He promotes his 'retarded' (everyone in the movie's words, not mine) secretary (Pinky Cheung), which gives her new confidence and the chief executive starts fantasising about her. Meanwhile, an old girlfriend of the chief executive, now a psychiatrist (Angie Cheung), arrives in town and old feelings start to stir. One night, the secretary is the next victim of the office rapist and she accuses the chief executive of doing it. He strenuously denies it and the DNA test also comes back confirming that it was him but the secretary's brother, a cop and his partner aren't completely convinced. The chief executive's alibi is that he went to the psychiatrist and slept with her but something doesn't add up and things spiral out-of-control for everyone. Did the chief executive actually do it? Who survives in the end? Who knows, this movie takes a turn for the ridiculous when the secretary gets raped, a revenge plot involving a helluva lot of hypnosis and then a final ten minutes where pretty much everyone cops it is really something. The movie starts with the same comedic tome as the previous movie and it's even more tasteless, a scene involving a rape victim's mother is pretty gross, but at least it has the sense to give that up after a terrible start. Constantly calling the secretary 'retarded' is laughably stupid and she doesn't really do anything to deserve it. The plot is a mess and then the movie ends with the office rapist still on the loose. The best can be said is that at least it's different from the second movie, doesn't mean it's better though.

Raped By An Angel 4: The Rapist's Union, well, begins with a former CIA agent who's actually a complicated serial rapist who breaks out a couple of notorious rapists from prison and gives them sanctuary and women to rape as the former CIA agent uses them to get his prize, his famous writer neighbour (Suki Kwan). But to get to her, you got to get to her through her friends so he kidnaps her actress friend (Fan Yeung, back for more after number 2) and has his way with her. She escapes to her friends house but she is caught and killed. The cops (one of which is the writer's boyfriend and also Athena Chu reprises her role from part 2) are still looking for the escapee rapists and get the help of reformed serial rapist (Anthony Wong from Infernal Affairs in a silly cameo) who magically deduces that the CIA agent is involved. Well, the cops look to set up the former CIA agent and the escapees by using the writer and her remaining friends as bait which goes about as well as expected leaving the CIA agent alone with the writer. Will he get what he wants? Great, now the rapists have unionised and are looking to better their lot... This movie doesn't really bother much with the comedy but it may be the most tasteless of all the movies. The movie is surprisingly smug, the former CIA agent is so full of himself with his tech gadgets and moral superiority over everyone and his assistants are real pieces of shit, one of them is incredibly bothersome with his niggling and their murders are particular nasty. But the plot is so unnecessary, the former CIA agent has put together an elaborate plan which seems like busy work to get to 80-odd minutes. Anthony Wong's appearance is so silly and his role is basically there to forward the plot for the dumb cops. This is just a bad, bad movie...

A bit to cap below. I wish the credits to these movies where better or just not in Cantonese as there's a few actresses with decent roles that are uncredited.

Update for 8 November...

90s update and now for something a little different. Haven't capped all that many Hong Kong films, probably zero although I do remember trying to cap Erotic Ghost Story off VHS back in the day and that didn't end well. Anyway for some baffling reason, someone decided to give a Bluray release to this exploitation series but not the more well known first movie also known as Naked Killer 2 with the drop dead sexy Chingmy Yau, but 2 through 4 and not 5. No idea what's going on there... The titles are very descriptive and don't necessarily do justice to the movies. They're much worse than that.

Where to start with this series?

Raped By An Angel 2: The Uniform Fan is where a dentist who is obsessed with women in uniform becomes a serial rapist/killer even though his nurse/girlfriend (Fan Yueng) tries to keep his temptations under wraps. Meanwhile, a gangster is released from prison and with his right hand man they accidentally find one of the dentist's victim, cover it up and then watch a rival gang get raided led by a female detective (Athena Chu) who the gangster falls for and decides to chase after and she sort of seems interested despite him being a gangster. Well the female detective has a 17 year-old sister (Chun Chung) who's horny for her boyfriend but her sister wards him off. The sister then gets a tooth-ache and guess which dentist she goes to in her little school uniform. Well, the dentist must have her, so he gasses then strips her but his nurse stops him and she gets him to fuck her instead. But he must have the sister, so he hatches a plan to get her, her boyfriend and their friends to use a house to party in, where he drugs the food, rapes the sister and claims his prize. Except, the sister wakes up after she was raped and she accuses him, so the dentist kills her and frames the boyfriend who he was already framing for the rape. Well the female detective is mad and wants justice/revenge, accidentally smashes the boyfriend's father, a connected city official and she gets demoted. Well, she moves on but still wants justice which is helped along when the dentist cons the boyfriend into jumping off a building. The dentist sees the former female detective in her new uniform and he is gone, he now wants her. He woos her and she accepts a date but notices something about him and does some investigating which suggests that maybe the dentist was her sister's killer. She decides to trap him during the date, with the brilliant idea of wearing a girl guide's uniform to entice him. Well, it doesn't go to plan and he gets the upper hand and just as he is about the rape the female detective, she breaks free and fights him off with her mother finishing him by castrating him with a knife, something she says she's done to two of her former husbands...

Well, this tasteless movie is even more tastleless when you realise that the tone of the movie is comedic. It's truly a head scratcher from start to finish but then exploitation movies in Hong Kong were rarely subtle and this movie definitely leaves out the subtlety. There's so many dubious scenes throughout, not helped by some shocking subtitles that mangle the English language so may be some things get lost in translation, I dunno. The plot itself is a serial rapist/killer plot mixed with a baffling amount of romantic comedy but then even the rape scenes are played for comedy so honestly it's a relief when the light stuff happens. There are a few laughs along the way, not the rape stuff but stuff like the dentist having porno mags at his surgery, the bumbling gangsters have their moments and any time the female detective's mother turns up, the castration gag at the end is actually pretty funny considering what's passed for comedy beforehand and there's plenty of sleaze for those who are into that.

Part 3 and 4 will be up in the coming days. Let's just say that the second movie is the best of this lot and I've pretty much trashed the movie. So fair warning...

Update for 4 November...

Still going with the new releases. Possessor is the long awaited new movie from son of David, Brandon Cronenberg (Antiviral) about a woman (Andrea Riseborough) who is the best at 'possessing' other people's bodies and using them to assassinate various people. It is starting to affect her mentally but she continues to possess people but the latest person she possesses (Christopher Abbott) is becoming a bigger challenge than expected, particularly after they've done what they have to. Interesting movie, very reminiscent of his father's movie eXistenZ and is extremely violent (there's a lot of stabbings) and very stylised. Worth a look.

Two versions of the movie were released, the uncut version is 48 seconds longer minus 10 seconds with this baffling message:

All the videos below are from the slightly better quality cut version except for the second Tuppence Middleton video which was 13 seconds longer in the uncut version and includes an extra bit where Andrea Riseborough (or a double) turns up with a penis. Also there's a few seconds more of Tuppence during the sex scene. The cut version is edited differently but otherwise the footage is the same. There's also two different versions of a porn scene, the uncut version is more explicit and both versions have different footage that equal the exact same time in the movie. Also the porn stars were uncredited but I had a look at the thanks section of the credits to see if there were any porn names there and that's how I come up with the porn star being Chilly Chick. I even checked to make sure it was her... and the scene in the movie is set in a room she seems to use regularly.

Update for 2 November...

Time for another 90s update. Curse III: Blood Sacrifice is South African horror movie that is technically a part of the not at all related Curse series of movies. And for a movie set in South Africa in the early 90s, it's surprisingly less racist than expected, well if you leave out that a witch doctor is the villain, black workers considered lazy and a fairly poor imitation of a witch doctor by a white man (played by Gavin Hood who would go on to be the director of such movies as Tsotsi, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ender's Game and Rendition). Christopher Lee takes a paycheck and goes missing for more than half the movie until coming back for the ending where the filmmakers couldn't decide whether to make him the good guy or the bad guy, so they flipped a coin. But that's nothing compared to the final 10 minutes where they inexplicably blow the budget on a monster that feels like another last minute add-on and adds a total sum of nothing to the movie. Apart from that the movie isn't completely awful, there are sections of the movie that work well, the 20 minutes or so where Jenilee Harrison is stalked is pretty good but this movie takes the stupid way out when it could've been so much better.
