Update for 29 October...

A new Australian release. Basically Lurking Woods is a low budget horror thriller about a group of former university friends who go away to a retreat in the country only for a maniac to turn up and start killing everyone. Pretty low rent stuff with a lame killer, nothing worth talking about except for some brief nudity from Hope Devaney.

Update for 28 October...

Today the Lament Configuration is solved with all 10 Hellraiser movies capped.

After Inferno (5), Hellraiser continues down the 'it's all in your head' road with the sexed-up Hellseeker (6) and the return of Ashley Laurence's character who the Cenobites still want. Basically Dean Winters has a slew of women he has sex with but he pines for his missing wife (Ashley Laurence). It turns out that by killing those he's fucking, he comes closer to his wife but is it all in his head. While the return of Ashley Laurence is welcome, the continuation of this plot device isn't making things better.

Deader (7) is the first of two movies shot back-to-back in Romania, at least this one lessens the plot device but has a ludicrous plot involving a cult obsessed with bringing back the dead called Deaders (no, just no, terrible name) and a journalist on the edge (Kari Wuhrer) is sent to Romania to check it out, only to get neck deep in it. Completely uninteresting and Pinhead barely makes an appearance and doesn't really need to.

Hellworld (8) is the one we've been waiting for, the tech one and because it was made in 2002, it's just embarrassing. Lots of early millennium video game nonsense (Hellraiser based of course) mixed with Eastern European sleaze, so while the nudity is great, the movie brings back the 'it's all in your head plot' and then amps it up. Even Lance Henriksen can't save it and looks completely out of place as a tech head (?). Does have an early roles for Henry Cavill (who I didn't realise was around that long ago) and Katheryn Winnick, but nothing really to recommend it. Pinhead again is sidelined which is a shame for Doug Bradley's final appearance, just awful.

Revelations (9) is barely 70 minutes and looks like it was made for a couple of bucks, is incredibly hateful, particularly to women and has pretty much nothing to recommend it. At least it gets back to the basics but it's hatefulness is overwhelming. It does have cutie Tracey Fairaway in a ridiculous shirt throughout with a very brief nip-slip, but that's not enough to recommend it.

Finally, Judgement (10) was released earlier this year after the abandonment of a number of attempted remakes which when you see how equally low rent as Revelations it is, is actually pretty distressing. Again relying on the serial killer plot of Inferno but with the extra bonus of some nonsense involving naked women being judges of purity or something, I was completely done when it started to retread the appalling Inferno and of course it's exactly the same result. Plus the first killing involving a woman and her dog is just disgusting, get the feeling no-one read the script to nix this ugly scene. Hellraiser needs to be taken from the Weinstein brothers and a reboot desperately. At least Harvey's name is conspicuously missing from Judgement.

I went back and had a look at Aimée Leigh's scenes in Hell On Earth and noticed that a nipple does slip out from under the bloke's hands in a couple of frames during the sex scene, so I've made some raw caps and enough for a collage. And I've put it back up the top for another look. Also I deleted it from yesterday's blurb, but there's also a brief nip-slip/breast slip by Paula Marshall in the same movie. And don't forget the nice little nip-slip from Tracey Fairaway in Revelations; how she didn't have more through the movie is mystery bigger than how the Hellraiser movies went to shit so comprehensively. I also had a bit of extra time as the videos didn't take as long as I was planning, so I went through the final 5 movies and made a lot more raw caps and a few collages I wasn't initially planning to do, so a nice little bonus.

Update for 27 October...

Inspired by last weekend's Witchboard update, I decided to have go at another series of horror movies, this time something more ambitious and I decided to go with the Hellraiser series, which just released it's 10th movie this year. So, I'm hoping to cap all 10 this weekend and with the first 5 done in today's update, the rest should be up tomorrow.

Probably should have been slightly less ambitious as I'd never watched any of the Hellraiser series before, so I've been seeing them for the first time this week. The first two Hellraiser movies are really good, some solid horror set-ups and well done special effects and some iconic scenes and characters introduced in the first two movies. But slowly as the follow-ups slowly built up, the quality drops. Hell On Earth (3) is actually not bad, the drop off is slight but you can see the signs that the stories are starting to get a little flimsy. Bloodline (4) is the first to go with the 'it's all in your head' trope and the drop off is significant. It also doubles up by doing the shonky sequel thing of doing the origin story in flashback, a sure fire sign the stories are getting thin. Inferno (5) is an appalling movie not helped by one of the more uncharismatic leading men in Craig Sheffer being the lead and the 'it's all in your head' trope is well and truly in full swing. Also noticeable in the sequels is the lessening of the appearance and importance of Pinhead, well technically he did die at the end of Hellbound (2), just that he was the face of the series and they had to get him in somewhere. Also should be noted that the Weinstein brothers (yes, Harvey) took over the Hellraiser franchise after 3 and that's where it dramatically drops off in quality. Probably a coincidence...

Also, I such a dummy that I was rhapsodising about Ashley Laurence in a previous 90s update and of course because I hadn't watched a Hellraiser movie, I neglected to mention that she is an important part of it. Typical...

Update for 25 October...

Some new movies today. Some quick synopses: Sorry To Bother You is a satire that gets very weird in it's third act about a poor black man who takes a job as a telemarketer and quickly finds himself climbing the ladder by using a technique of the 'white voice'. But when his friends including his artist girlfriend (Tessa Thompson) decide to form a union to get a minimum wage, he is caught in the choice between his old life of poverty and his new life of affluence. It's a pretty wild and weird movie before the third act twist which while fun and completely bonkers, feels very much like the filmmakers had no idea how to end the movie and just said fuck it, let's go crazy. Definitely worth a look though. SuperFly is a remake of the 70s movie about a young drug dealer/club owner who decides to go for one last big score before quitting with his two girlfriends (Andrea Londo and Lex Scott Davis), but local interests including other drug dealers and cops do not like this one bit. OK, I guess.

Update for 23 October...

Still spinning the totally real wheel and it comes up with 3 random movie from the near past. Have never capped Anna Kendrick, so good time to start and while there's not much in Pitch Perfect, there's a good scene in the shower. Ummed and ahhed about capping Alexis Knapp from the movie, but fuck it, why not, she looks pretty good in the movie. Nicholas Sparks movies always have that PG type nudity (see The Notebook, Dear John, The Longest Ride and The Choice) and The Best Of Me continues that tradition with some good stuff from Michelle Monaghan and the best yet from Liana Liberato. Should really get the Bluray as both The Notebook and The Longest Ride have extended sex scene, might me more, better check then. Love Laura Ramsey and during a recent update where I capped a few of the her movies I tried looking for a HD copy of Middle Men with no success so I went and got the Bluray of the movie and here it is in today's update. Not much considering she plays a porn star but better than nothing, I s'pose.

The 90s weekend update has bled into Monday. 90s Update for 20 October...

The 90s update takes on the Witchboard ouija horror series and begins with the 1986 original, close enough to the 90s I guess. Never been a fan of ouija horror movies, all are pretty lame, ooooohhh you can talk to the spirits, that's not scary. None of the Witchboard series is all that good, the original has a sort of ironic detachment which works for it better than the other movies (that wacky spirit guide played by Kathleen Wilhoite is something else). Witchboard 2 is pretty straightforward and more of a mystery movie based around the ouija board plus it has Ami Dolenz being all cute and perky which at least makes it watchable. Witchboard 3 is an abomination of a movie all except for the opening bit where the wacky landlord tells the bloke he has cancer then takes a jump off the third floor right in front of him. Oh and some pretty decent nudity from Elizabeth Lambert. Basically Witchboard 3 is about the bloke using the ouija board for stock tips, seriously, that's what the movie is pretty much about. Fuck that...

The first two Witchboard movies are from Blurays and the 3rd movie isn't available on Bluray as far as I know, so it's just from DVD, not a great DVD otherwise I might've done some collages, but it's good enough for videos.

90s Update for 14 October...

That time of the week again. A bunch of movies I got cheap off iTunes plus Sliding Doors which was technically supposed to be in last week's update. Georgina Cates came out with a bang in the mid-to-late 90s, got married to Skeet Ulrich and then barely turned up in anything before randomly turning up in Bad Grandpa. She's the star of An Awfully Big Adventure, one of those British actor dramas that's actually filmed in Ireland and of course there's that story about how she lied about her age to get the part. Otherwise the movie is pretty unremarkable. Need to get my hands on a decent copy of Clay Pigeons and some of the other movies she had nude scenes in. The only other movie I want to mention is Ghost In The Machine, one of those paranoid early 90s tech thrillers that has to have virtual reality because it's was mandatory. The plot is utterly ridiculous basically a serial killer thriller where a serial killer is severely injured in a car accident on the way to his next killing and then as he was getting a brain scan, an electrical storm strikes the hospital and the serial killer dies but not before his brain was uploaded onto the system. Now, he wants to continue killing and he can, digitally, as an unrestricted hacker and inexplicably through the electricity. Silly as fuck, but an absolute hoot because of it, but I can't say that Ghost In The Machine is a good movie, it isn't, it's laughably bad. But it does have that cutie Shevonne Durkin from Leprechaun 2 and not a lot else, flashing her bra to a couple of kids because it's that type of movie.

Another 3 new movies.

Look Away is a revenge thriller where surviving twin Maria (India Eisley), a shy high school student who is virtually ignored at school and not treated not a lot better by her vain plastic surgeon father (Jason Isaacs) and manic depressive mother (Mira Sorvino). One day while masturbating, she is freaked out by her reflection doing a whole lot more than reflecting and discovers that the reflection is everything she wants to be. After a disastrous prom where even her only friend Lily (Penelope Mitchell) laughs at her being bullied, Maria's takes up the offer from her reflection to take over. Maria's reflection goes about getting revenge on all that have wronged her, first taking care of her bully and then hurting Lily and stealing her boyfriend Sean (Harrison Gilbertson), who she's secretly had a crush on, but Maria's reflection goes too far and no one is safe. OK revenge thriller with a surprising dose of nastiness and also a surprising lot of nudity from India Eisley which is most welcome as I do like her. Also features two Australian actors including Penelope Mitchell again, sadly nothing to cap this time, but who cares, look at India damn it...

I Still See You is a supernatural thriller where an unknown event caused the death of millions of people but also left their ghost behind that haunt the world in remnants meaning small pieces of their ghostly being are left behind mostly just to be there. Veronica (Bella Thorne) and her mother are reminded of Veronica's dad, who died in the event, by his presence at the kitchen table every morning. One day, an unknown remnant appears while Veronica is taking a shower and delivers a warning to her which is odd as the ghosts usually stick to a set pattern. Veronica confides this to a sympathetic teacher (Dermot Mulroney) at her school who has an interest in the remnants but she also decides to investigate further and finds new in town Kirk (Richard Harmon) going into a restricted area where he shows her where the remnants come from. Together, Veronica and Kirk attempt to unravel the mystery of the unknown remnant and they discover that Veronica is going to die on her birthday, quite possibly at the hand of the unknown remnant, who seems to have started his killing spree with an already rising body count. After a visit to the restricted territory in nearby Darkness Falls to see the last victim of the unknown remnant, it becomes clear that they may have been wrong about the unknown remnant all along. OK, good luck with understanding that because there's a lot going on and not all of it seems to make sense although it was pretty obvious from the beginning who the real bad guy was. It's an interesting enough story even if a lot has to be explained, I just wish it wasn't so obvious.

Update for 12 October...

Some more new movies.

Gee, I can't stand those Death Race movies but I can't help myself and another one has been released with this production moving from sunny South Africa to gloomy Bulgaria with a heap of British actresses joining the locals and those from the previous movies like Danny Trejo, who doesn't seem to have made the trip to Bulgaria and filmed his scenes around the corner from his place. More of the same but this time the Death Race has been made illegal but is run in a place where the police aren't allowed and run by the newest incarnation of Frankenstein, who's a massive bastard now. A bunch of cops posing as the latest batch of crims arrive and make an immediate scene with Connor (Zach McGowan) catching the eye of Frankenstein and the old team who think he can take on Frankenstein in the Death Race. Bit more nudity in this one, particularly from Lucy Aarden, who shows quite a bit, but I can't recommend it, I don't even like these movies. And no Tanit Phoenix, I can't stand for that.

Another thing I can't help myself with is ride share thrillers, which have become a new crappy genre. All the same, all completely ludicrous. Maybe my memory is fuzzy but I can't remember their being too many movies made about killer taxi drivers, so this is a strange development. Ride is the latest one where a struggling actor in LA making some money as a ride share driver picks up a young woman (Bella Thorne), who takes a shine to him and invites him to her party, which he wants to go but needs the money. So, he looks for a big fare and gets one in some obnoxious bloke who doesn't seem to know how the system works (amazingly, these killers seem to be all like this), but he convinces him to go after the girl, so he does and then he forces them to do stuff, at first harmless things to help with them fall in love, then the violence starts. Predictable and terrible, but I'll keep watching them, damn it.

Update for 10 October...

Between Worlds is a thriller where down on his luck truck driver Joe (Nicolas Cage), who is still not over the tragic death of his wife and daughter in a fire, sees someone strangling Julie (Franka Potente) and he saves her. Except she wanted to be strangled as Julie has the ability to go over to the other side of death and she is attempting to save her daughter Billie's (Penelope Mitchell) soul as she just found out she's in a coma because of a motorcycle accident. Julie saves Billie life but something is not right with her. Joe moves in with Julie and they begin a relationship but this sets off Billie, who becomes very attracted to Joe, which at first disconcerts him but he's also flattered by the attention he's getting that he hasn't had in a while. Eventually, Joe succumbs to Billie and they begin an affair and then finds out why Billie is attracted to him and it set off a series of events which will end badly for some. Absolutely crazy Nicolas Cage movie, so you already know what your in for, but Cage is at his over-the-top best here with a plot so batty it doesn't even matter. Most of Cage's VOD movies have been pretty straight-laced, so it's great to see him do a crazy one for once. So many scenes where I couldn't help but burst out laughing at how ridiculous they were, but the sex scene(s) where he reads a memory book authored by Nicolas Cage is all-time crazy. Or the sex scene where he quotes The Exorcist...

Update for 9 October...

Three new movies today. Some quick synopses: Octavio Is Dead! is a drama about a young woman (Sarah Gadon) who is told her father, who she has never met, has died. She goes to the city to his apartment to try and discover more about him and finds his apartment is a barely livable mess and also his ghost still inhabits the place. She also sees a man at her father's headstone and follow him to a men's club where he works, but she isn't allowed in. So, she dresses in her father's clothes and meets the man and they become friends and maybe more. Weird Canadian drama that's not bad even with not a lot happening. Bayou Caviar is a thriller where a washed-up former champion boxer (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is forced to dig up dirt on the son of a Russian mob accountant but there isn't any, so when he meets a 16 year-old girl (Lia Marie Johnson) who has an eye on being famous, he concocts a plan with his sleazy photographer friend (Famke Janssen) to shoot a sex tape with the son, but when it happens, it doesn't go to plan. OK thriller but nothing special. Lost Gully Road is an Australian supernatural thriller where a young woman (Adele Perovic) hides out from her sister's boyfriend in a haunted house in the middle of nowhere. It turns out the unseen ghost seduces the woman and wants her more for himself and makes it impossible for her to leave. Cheapie that plays like a giallo thriller including an interesting giallo-esque score, not bad but it's limitations are obvious. Also another movie that I've watched recently with ghost rape; I swear I'm not deliberately seeking these movies out...

90s Update for 7 October...

Another 90s update for the weekend, a bunch of quick updates. Capped A Low Down Dirty Shame a few months back and thought about capping Posse for Salli Richardson-Whitfield for a 90s update and then promptly forgot about it. Came across a DVD of Posse in one of my searches and wondered whether there was a HD release of any kind and I found one that looked OK, so here it is. Not a bad movie that gained popularity on home release and had numerous showings on TV locally, but hasn't been on TV here for a while. I'm sure we all know about Tommy Boy and I held off watching it for ages but caught on TV and laughed my arse off, so I don't know what I was worried about. Just flicking through the movie for this update has me laughing once more. Money For Nothing is one of those movies that got a bit lost over time but I remember watching it I think as a midday movie a long time ago and it was a pretty decent movie about a down on his luck bloke (John Cusack) who comes across $1.2 million that gets dumped by an armoured car. Of course everything gets out of control fast as a determined cop (Michael Madsen, who's quite good in this) chases the money. Has one of those casts where everyone was in the early stage of their career like James Gandolfini playing Cusack's brother and Philip Seymour Hoffman as a bloke who works out that Cusack took the money and Benicio del Toro as a small time crook. Some brief nudity from Debi Mazar is also a nice bonus and even better than her scenes from Space Truckers, which I capped recently. Haha, I just realised that the updates I've linked to are the same update where I last capped Salli and Debi. Weird coincidence...

90s Update for 6 October...

This weekend's 90s update features a couple of movies starring Natasha Lyonne. Never seen Freeway 2 before but having seen the original Freeway, I knew what it would be like. Everything ugly and over-the-top and some tenuous link to a fairy tale, this time it's Hansel and Gretel. The ending is pretty disgusting, not that much before it is any better, at least Natasha Lyonne makes the movie somewhat watchable. On the other hand, Slums Of Beverly Hills is a pretty decent coming of age comedy with Natasha playing a teen girl who is a late bloomer because of her mother died and she has no female influence but that changes when her cousin (Marisa Tomei) comes under the care of her father who is only doing it for money.
