Update for 27 September...

Still with the 90s movies. Decided to cap some B-movies starring a couple of actress from Repossessed that I capped in yesterday's update. Frankenhooker is a pretty fun Frankenstein-inspired horror comedy that had a nude scene from Charlotte J. Helmkamp who has a far bigger role in this movie than her one scene in Repossessed. I particularly liked Patty Mullen as the hybrid of all the hookers stomping around town looking for tricks.

Samurai Cop, featuring Melissa Moore who flashed her breasts in Repossessed, is an absolutely low-rent Z-grade shitfest that can really only be watched in a 'so bad it's good' frame-of-mind because it's just so laughably bad. Good on the filmmakers for making a movie and getting a bunch of actresses naked but that's the only good things about it.

Also added Witch Hunt which was a strange HBO TV movie directed by Paul Schrader(!) in a clear for-hire job. The movie is a bizarre mystery about witches committing murders with magic and Dennis Hopper tries to help Penelope Ann Miller from being burned at the stake(!) for the murder. Despite the decent cast, this was definitely pre-Sopranos HBO.

Update for 26 September...

More 90s movies. I mentioned recently when I capped the other National Lampoon movie released in 1995, Senior Trip, that National Lampoon really dropped off after the success of Loaded Weapon 1 which was only 2 years earlier. This is a made-for-TV movie that at least has some involvement by fairly well-known actors like Denis Leary (who directed one of the segments), Joe Mantegna, Annabella Sciorra and Andrew Dice Clay. But you know something's off when they call the portmanteau movie 'Favorite Deadly Sins' and then make a 100 minute movie focusing on only 3 of the 7 sins where one of them, Greed, has an hour long segment. I get the feeling they had the Greed segment but couldn't get it to 90 minutes so they tossed off a couple of quick, forgettable bookends to pad it out. Saying that, the Greed segment goes on forever with a ridiculous amount of cameos and feels like it's never going to end. They should've just done a 10-15 minute segment for each sin. Not sure it would've made it better though.

Repossessed is basically the Exorcist getting The Naked Gun treatment with Linda Blair and Leslie Nielsen and you're thinking that 'oh, this'll be funny like The Naked Gun'. Ha ha, nope. The Zucker Brothers aren't involved, the jokes are pretty much all miss and Leslie Nielsen's role is very odd as he's not really the main character and spends way too much time avoiding what they want him to do in increasingly lame ways. Could be the worst of those 90s parody movies and I remember thinking that back when I watched it in the 90s.

Update for 25 September...

It's 90s movie time. Cold Sweat is a pretty typical Shannon Tweed starring B-movie but the cast is surprisingly good including Ben Cross, Henry Czerny, Adam Baldwin and Dave Thomas. Feels like it should be something better than a by-the-numbers erotic thriller, but so be it.

Hand Gun also has an amazing cast, this time of New York actor including a whole bunch who would appear in The Sopranos. Basically a heist-gone-wrong thriller where two long-lost brothers have a bad day that coincides with their long-lost father on-the-run from the aforemention bad heist. A fair bit is going on and while the movie gets more than a bit predictable by the end, it's a pretty good watch plus you can play a great game of 'spot the actor', there's so many in this movie.

Update for 20 September...

A new Australian movie plus another movie from the same director. Watching The Haunting At Saint Joseph's, it started to feel familiar and I surmised that the movie is probably directed by notable low-rent genre director J.D. Cohen (The 7th Hunt, Ravenswood, Sum of Existence) and wouldn't you know it, it is. I really watch too many movies if I'm noticing things like this.

Unsurprisingly, The Haunting At Saint Joseph's is not a good movie, another J.D. Cohen movie where a bunch of young people get together and end up doing stupid shit. A ghostly horror thriller that turns out to be not that at all, this movie is quite hysterical with a final act of people just yelling and stabbing one another. One character is hysterical from her introduction as she's desperate for her brother not to marry his Muslim girlfriend and go off to live in Britain with her. I mentioned there's a ghost story, well, that's pretty much abandoned in the end. There's plenty of other silliness that's never quite explained like an elaborate satanic ritual prank they play on the Muslim girlfriend which is so baffling. Apparently something to do with the Muslim girl being a prankster and they're getting her back. Very odd.

I also decided to add another J.D. Cohen movie I hadn't capped, the ludicrous 2013 serial killer thriller Final Move, not that there's much to cap. Something about a serial killer who kidnaps people so that he can play a human chess game with the former detective who is desperate to catch him using his daughter as bait. If he loses a piece, then the serial killer kills the corresponding person. Too bad the disgraced cop can't play chess and has completely lost his mind after his older daughter was murdered. A whole lotta silliness going on in this movie. The whole chess theme is one of the ridiculous motifs I've ever seen.

Update for 11 September...

Something a little different, that occasionally happens, with three new(-ish) Australian movies. Some quick synopses:

Of An Age is a drama that starts in 1999 where Nikola (Kol) (Elias Anton) gets a call from his distressed dancing partner Ebony (Hattie Hook) an hour before they are to perform to pick her up as she was partying and woke up on a beach. Kol gets her older brother Adam (Thom Green) to drive him to pick up his sister over the other side of town which means they don't end up performing. Over the day, Kol and Adam hit it off and fall for one another. In 2010, Kol arrives home from studying overseas for Ebony's wedding and he's picked up by Adam. Will they pick up from where they left it? Pretty good movie about a relationship developing in little moments.

Oh boy, Sons of Summer is a part of the Summer City series of movies (1977's Summer City and 1988's Summer City 2: Breaking Loose) from producer Phil Avalon who's back making movies after a near 20 years break. Even more weird is that it's director Clive Fleury first movie since 1997's Big City Blues with his only other Australian movies being Avalon's 1994 B-grade cop thriller Tunnel Vision and the awful 1993 erotic thriller Fatal Past. Avalon makes terrible genre movies to sell to as many countries as possible and Sons of Summer is no exception. Basically a dopey surfer Sean (Joe Davidson) is coerced into doing one last job which turns out to be robbing a local crime kingpin. He narrowly gets away but the kingpin sets Terminator Jake the Muss, ahem his heavy (Temuera Morrison) onto his trail with Sean's girlfriend (Isabel Lucas) collateral damage. There's barely any plot and the movie is padded out with numerous surfing scenes. It has an extremely tenuous link to Summer City with Steve Bisley's character being Sean's father who apparently died in 1992 despite that movie being set in the 1970s. The best that can be said is that at least it's not as bad as Summer City 2 which is in the running for the worst Australian movie ever. At least Temuera Morrison gives the movie something to watch.

Petrol is an oddball drama where a film student Eva (Nathalie Morris from Bump) is struggling to make friends but then she meets an enigmatic performance artist Mia (Hannah Lynch). Eva is drawn into Mia's world when she is invited to live with her but Mia is a mystery and disappears from time to time. During one disappearance, Eva falls for Mia's ex. She eventually goes looking for Mia and finds her in a most unexpected place. Hard to pin down where this movie is going at any one time or whether or not Mia is actually real. I get the feeling the movie doesn't know either because it changes it's mind including right in the very final seconds of the movie. A meandering movie I'm pretty sure I don't understand.

Yep, still more 90s Spanish movies including another nutty 'fantasy' movie starring Neus Asensi, the very wacky 1993 sci-fi movie Supernova. Basically an evil scientist falls for a space travelling pop star Fénix (Marta Sánchez) and basically clones her so he can kidnap the real Fénix and have her for himself while the clone takes her place. Crazy, wacky stuff in that Spanish style and is strangely only 75 minutes long, so it doesn't muck about.

Update for 6 September...

Yet more Spanish 90s movies.

Perdona Bonita, pero Lucas me Quería a mí (Excuse me Darling, but Lucas Loved Me) was a mainstay on SBS back in the 90s, that perfect movie they loved showing: a 'wacky comedy', this time about a bunch of gay men who are looking for a roommate and come across the very hot looking Lucas and the men instantly fall for him. Then he turns up dead with multiple stab wounds and it turns out that everyone he comes across hates him and they are all suspects. Plus they need to get rid of the body. Got a lot of play on SBS and was one of the movies they heavily promoted. It's not a great movie but it's pretty fun and wacky concept. Never thought I'd ever see it again but here we are. Sadly the quality of the videos is not the best but it's not bad.

Interesting to see Gracia Olayo in a sexy scene in this movie as I only just capped her a couple of weeks ago playing a sexy grandma in ¡Vaya Vacaciones! where she has some nudity.

Still digging into the deposit of 90s Spanish movies and a pretty wide mix in today's update. Really annoyed that I can't findo out who the first unknown actress from Todos los Hombres sois Iguales is because she has a couple of decent, if brief, nude scenes. But the credits to that movie just list the main actors in the beginning then all the others at the end without character names, so if I don't know who it is, I'm lost. Can't even who it is from other capped version of the movie, so it seems they don't know who it is either. Disappointing...
