A couple of 80s ABC mini-series/TV movies

Going through some of the stuff from the pile I've finally gotten around to looking at these 80s ABC productions that I knew had nudity in them. Both productions have been pretty much lost to time but here are both in fairly decent quality considering they're taken from VHS rips.

Bodysurfer

This 1989 mini-series based on the novel by Robert Drewe (The Shark Net) and follows newly divorced David Lang (Peter Kowitz) who is moving on with his life and decides to retreat to what made him happy as a child, being at the beach. There he meets Lydia (Joy Smithers) who also has a fondness for the beach and begins a relationship with her which goes well enough that he introduces her to his 3 children, who seem receptive of her. But then he slowly but surely starts to lose his mind and having vivid dreams involving thrill killers. He moves on from Lydia and has an affair with Anthea (Linda Cropper) and he becomes obsessed with her travelling husband and whether or not Anthea is sleeping around. The focus of part 2 is more on David's adult son Paul (Felix Nobis) as he tries to become an artist with David coming in and out of the story.

Bodysurfer starts off well-enough, a pretty standard story about a man going through a mid-life crisis but then it turns into a very depressing story to the point where it's almost apocalyptic in feel. I'd be surprised if this mini-series found an audience because it's tough going, particularly part 2.

Anyway, there's quite a bit of nudity in the mini-series, most of which is in part 1. Joy Smithers' character has a penchant for topless sunbathing which we see in two separate scenes including a quite lengthy one where she's hanging out with David's family. David has a bit of an issue with this but more in that it gives him a boner because it reminds him of a girl he used to see at the beach in his youth (see the Nana Coburn videos below). There's one further scene which is a dream sequence where David is kissing Lydia in a car when a bunch of thrill killers arrive and force the both of them to strip. We don't really see much from Joy as she covers up for the most part but there's a bit of side-boob at one point. Smithers has had nude scenes in at least 3 other productions: an episode of All Saints, the 1985 comedy Emoh Ruo (a fairly decent scene also featuring Di Smith naked) and the 1993 talkfest Sex Is A Four Letter Word.

Linda Cropper has four nude scenes, mostly side-boob but sometimes a little more although it's only very brief looks at her nipples. The clearest look is in the fourth scene where in a dream sequence she is having sex with her husband and both are mocking David as they do (this guy has some fucked up dreams). Cropper has had nude scenes in the 1997 teen rape drama Blackrock, a few scenes in the 1995 ABC immigrant drama Bordertown and sort of nude in an episode of Offspring. I get the feeling there's some further nudity from Linda in some other productions as there's a fair bit of her credits that I haven't seen. If you know of anything else, feel free to tell me and I'll see if I can find it.

There also a brief scene when David has lost his mind and he goes to the beach and sees women topless sunbathing, who in his manic state he confuses for Lydia and we see a couple of unknown women's breasts.

In part 2, there's an early scene with Ruth Caro and Jo Poivedin and found in bed together by David's son Paul. We briefly see Ruth's breasts as she puts on a shirt to follow him.

We also see two nude scenes from Kim Antonios Hayes, one where she walks up to Paul only wearing bikini bottoms as she's doing some topless sunbathing and then a little while later when she's having sex with Paul before her boyfriend tracks her down and attacks Paul.

Man of Letters

This 1984 telemovie is the most ABC thing ever. Basically it's about prominent academic Sir Dorton Serry (Warren Mitchell) who goes to town thinking he's going to impart his wisdom and get some action from women while he's at it but soon realises he's an old man who can't handle women's changing role in the world. He meets an old girlfriend who flatly refuses to sleep with him. He meets a feminist filmmaker (Genevieve Mooy) who he fancies despite been told she's a lesbian then after he says sone harsh and out-of-touch things about her movie, she and her girlfriend (Debra May) humiliate him with an aggressive display of their sexuality (see below). Dorton also meets a PHD student (Arna-Maria Winchester) who he's been flirting with in letters but he humiliates her and walks away with his tail between his legs. He then comes home and finds that his wife and his pregnant daughter won't bow to him and the final straw is when a young girl teaches him a lesson so he has a nervous breakdown which he flatly refuses to believe he's having.

It's has some resonance with today's world but the handling of it is very much of the time particularly the feminist stuff. Also Dorton is seen as a bit of a cad by his friends and himself but he breaks down so easily over the simplest of things you have to wonder how he got that reputation.

There's a couple of nude scenes in the telemovie. The aforementioned scene where Genevieve Mooy and Debra May sexually humiliate Dorton where they both show their breasts. The scene is more than a bit silly but that's of little concern here.

There's also a brief scene where Arna-Maria Winchester flashes her breasts to Dorton after he rejects her advances when he came over very much looking for action. Arna-Maria also has 3 nude scenes in the 1981 nuclear thriller The Chain Reaction and in a couple of episodes of Spyforce.

Finally: Chantelle Barry in The Company You Keep

Back in July of last year I posted an update featuring trailers of movies that have never been released that featured Australian actresses naked. One of the trailers featured former Popstar Chantelle Barry in a 2004 movie called The Company You Keep. The movie never had much in the way of any release and got lost in the flood of movies. And being pretty much a B-movie with no real big names, it didn't seem to attract any interest. Even the director recognised it's lack of being released in a years-old Facebook post.

Well, a viewer of the site managed to track down a DVD of The Company You Keep from a Portuguese seller, going way above and beyond in doing so. The movie is a passable B-thriller made in South Africa but set in America and full of recognisable American actors like Linden Ashby (as one of the leads), Corbin Bernsen and Maria Conchita Alonso (both in small roles) adding that American flavour. Chantelle has the lead female role in her first ever movie and plays a 18 year-old Native American (!) formerly jailbait girlfriend of Nate (Brett Haley) who she helps escape from prison work and they go on the run but with no money, they get stuck with Harry (Linden Ashby) who has a map to riches that everyone wants. As I said, the movie is a passable somewhat sexy B-thriller, nothing special but does the job.

Anyway, Chantelle has 4 nude scenes in the movie but strangely two of those scenes feature Chantelle seemingly wearing patches over her nipples while she doesn't in the two other scenes. First up, Chantelle finally gets to have sex with her boyfriend as they lay low in a brothel and we see her breasts, mostly from the side but it is briefly noticeable that she has patches over her nipples plus her bottom as she sits atop the bloke during sex. A minute or so later we see Chantelle is naked while putting on lipstick in the mirror and Harry comes past and sees her nude but she doesn't blink. Sadly the camera stays just above Chantelle's breasts for this scene but she is clearly naked.

A little while later, Chantelle goes for a swim in a lake naked but we don't really see anything until she exits and dries herself, again with Harry looking at her and we see her bottom and the side of her breast possibly with a patch over the nipple. Again, she is unfazed by Harry looking at her naked.

Chantelle has sex again with her boyfriend quite loudly and the scene is intercut with Harry trying not to listen in to them. We see Chantelle's right breast complete with nipple and her bottom on-and-off throughout. Then a couple of minutes later Chantelle exposes her right breast to Harry attempting to seduce him but he isn't interested. Overall, it's pretty decent nudity from Chantelle despite the patches. Hopefully one day the movie will turn up in HD but the likelihood of that is probably less than zero.

I think that might be it for sexy stuff featuring Chantelle. You can find a near nude scene from Chantelle from the movie The House That Jack Built that I've previous capped, another hard-to-find movie. There may be some sexy stuff in the movie Punish The Wicked but that movie is also hard-to-find.
