Update for 26 December...

Sticking with the new movies and today's movie is the newest adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover. The only adaptation I had seen is the one starring Sylvia Kristel but watching this version I started remembering a number of things from that movie and seeing them turn up in this new version like cetain scenes and the 'dirty words'. Good to see they didn't skimp on the nudity either. Interesting to see Joely Richardson turn up in this as she starred in a 90s TV adaptation of Lady.

Update for 18 December...

A new Australian horror movie.

Girl at the Window is a horror thriller where after the death of her father, Amy (Ella Newton) moves with her mother Barbara (Radha Mitchell) to a new house. Amy notices that her neighbour Chris (Vince Colosimo) leaves his house late at night for brief periods of time. Meanwhile, The Clockwork Killer is terrorising the town, going after young couples where he kills the boy then three days later, the killer leaves the girl's body while taking one of her eyes. Amy becomes interested in the case and feels that Chris may be The Clockwork Killer and after a failed attempt at peering into his shed, she gets the help of her friend Lian (Karis Oka) and her boyfriend but all that achieves is getting the attention of the detectives in charge of the case. But Amy is persistent and one day she manages to break in to the shed and hides in Chris's car and sees him dump a bloody package down a mineshaft. She's now thoroughly convinced that Chris is the killer but she's stuck in his car and calls the detectives to arrest Chris with her evidence. Meanwhile, Chris finds a secret passage in his shed and finds the latest victim of The Clockwork Killer in a cage but when he goes back to get something to free her, the detectives have arrived thinking he's The Clockwork Killer and shoot him dead. But he's not the killer and the victim is still missing and the killer knows that Amy is chasing him. Can she save the day before the bodies pile up?

OK horror movie, nothing all that original and Amy's paranoia becomes a bit grating over time. The big problem is that you know that Chris is not the killer from the outset and when he dies, things slow for a while. It gets a bit messy in the end plus the death of the killer is foreshadowed way to early to work. One thing that does work is the character of Lian who adds a bit of humour to the movie, particularly when she is taken by the killer and is disappointed that it's them. I would say it's slightly better than the director's previous movie, the 2013 remake Patrick but that movie is a shadow of the original.

Update for 17 December...

More 80s movies for the Australian weekend update. Some quick synopses:

Warm Nights on a Slow Moving Train is a 1987 drama where a Catholic high school art teacher (Wendy Hughes) moonlights as a prostitute on the Sydney-to-Melbourne train one night a week. She does it because she needs extra money to help feed her disabled brother's morphine addiction. She has sex with various men including a disgraced football coach, a soldier worried about his upcoming wedding, a retired salesman and a well-known singer. Then a man (Colin Friels) piques her interest to the point that she falls for him but he is using her to set up an assassination of a prominent right wing politician (Grant Tilly), which he coaxes her into doing. Incredibly slight movie that is basically just brief encounters until a cockamamie political assassination is added in the third act so that something exciting can happen. Feels more like rejected Paul Cox movie, a theory helped by three of his regulars featuring including the lead actress plus it's written and directed by Bob Ellis who wrote a couple of Cox's movies. It flopped badly and it's not hard to see why.

There's an extra on the DVD for Warm Nights on a Slow Moving Train where the director bemoans Wendy Hughes's decision not do any more nude scenes. Hahaha.

Emerald City is a 1988 drama about a successful TV/movie writer (John Hargreaves) and his publisher wife (Robyn Nevin) decide to move from Melbourne to Sydney with their kids to get to where the action is. The writer meets a wannabe writer (Chris Haywood, also in the other movie in this update. I've seen way too much of him recently) who has shacked up with a young writer (Nicole Kidman) and they get together and make a Vietnam War theme mini-series which isn't a hit. Both the writer and his wife get caught up in the rush of Sydney entertainment scene and it begins to change them. Yawn... movies about writers having to compromise their vision to make things commercial is the most boring shit ever and here's yet another example. Who are these movies made for?

Update for 16 December...

A couple of HD reduxes including the French movie L'Appartement which hadn't made the leap from the pre-johnny-moronic.com era. I might have mentioned this before that I'm a big fan of this movie, loved it back in the day, even own the DVD to the movie and I hadn't seen the movie in a while so when it turned up on SBS World Movies recently, I decided to take another look at it. Still pretty great and it's been pretty great rediscovering 90s Romane Bohringer in recent times.

I just looked up if the director had made anything else and his only other movie is a French TV remake of the 2001 Bruce Willis/Billy Bob Thornton/Cate Blanchett movie Bandits. Jesus...

I also don't mind the American remake Wicker Park. It helps that Rose Byrne is in it.

More 90s movies including another Adam Rifkin as Rif Coogan movie The Invisible Maniac about a mad scientist who kills a bunch of scientists after his invisibility experiment fails and goes on the run, ending up being a teaching summer school science under the name Kevin Smith. Anyway, we know that there's only one reason to be invisible and that perve on naked chicks and this movie has plenty of that. Not a great movie but it delivers plenty of naked chicks (8 in all), so no complaints here. You can find the other Rif Coogan movie Psycho Cop Returns which I capped earlier in the year and Rifkin's TV series Look is also available.

Update for 11 December...

The weekend Australian update features a couple of HD reduxes this week from the recent Bluray release of two Terry Bourke movies, 1972's 52 minute movie Night Of Fear and the 1975 weird horror western Inn of the Damned. Neither movie is great but they seem to be popular enough for Umbrella to give them a Bluray release, so no complaints here.

I strangely didn't make collages from Inn of the Damned when I capped it 9 years ago this week but I decided to do some this time plus further collages from Night of Fear.

I've also kept the old DVD videos from the movies because I noticed that they show a few pixels more, not that it makes too much of a difference but they're available if you want them.

Previous collages from Inn of the Damned and Night of Fear are available here. I have also capped further Terry Bourke movies Lady, Stay Dead, Plugg and recently Brothers. Lady, Stay Dead got a Bluray release overseas so I'm a surprised that it hasn't in Australia considering the 'popularity' of today's movies.

Update for 3 December...

A couple of 1980s TV movies starring Julie Nihill, best known as the pub owner in Blue Heelers. Some quick synopses:

Army Wives is a 1987 drama where two lifelong friends Jill (Julie Nihill) and Wendy (Lian Lunson) get married to two brothers who are in the army. It follows the two of them as they wait or follow their husbands to where they are stationed. But it doesn't go well for either woman. Jill finds herself alone and struggling to bring up their children. Wendy turns to alcohol after a stint in Singapore and becomes more isolated from her strict husband. There's some good stuff about how army wives have to deal with being apart from their husbands but there's so many ridiculous scenes in the movie and the last half hour is so over-the-top any believability is thrown out the window.

Every Move She Makes is a 1983 stalker thriller where Alison (Julie Nihill) is a country girl who comes to the city to start a new job and catches the eye of weird nerd Matthew (Doug Bowles) who she humours but isn't really interested in. Matthew won't let it go and he keeps following Alison which drives her crazy and makes her scared to leave her home. She does what she can legally to get rid of him but that only makes it more dangerous for her. OK although it is a very hysterical thriller which shows how easy it is for a woman to become vulnerable to a stalker. Matthew is portrayed as a non-violent person which makes Alison seem more hysterical and some scenes are a bit much including a car chase on a freeway going the wrong way.

Both movies are from VHS rips are both are pretty good, seem to be taken straight from original video. Highly doubtful there will be anything better.

A little bit of nudity from Julie Nihill in Every Move She Makes which I think is her only nudity. Lian Lunson didn't do a lot of acting but she did have a nude scene in her only other major role in The Big Hurt.
