Unsorted Entries: Street Legal, Doves Of War, The Runner

A bunch of unsorted entries in that I don't have the full series of the shows but there's is nudity in the episodes available.

Street Legal was a 2000-2003 New Zealand legal drama and thanks to NZ On Screen, they have made available the pilot (in HD!) and the first, technically second episode. The pilot has two nude scenes, one from Katherine Kennard and another from Sara Wiseman but the first episode doesn't have any nudity although Katherine takes off her sports bra in one scene but you don't really see anything. Both Katherine and Sara have done nude scenes in other productions; Katherine in the 2017 series Dear Murderer and Sara in the 2008 movie Jinx Sister and a side-boob scene in The Almighty Johnsons. I think that the scene below are probably better nudity than either has done.

That's all that is available for now but I have seen low quality Russian overdubs of the show floating about so it might be worth a look if only to see what else there is.

Doves Of War was a 6 episode New Zealand military thriller shown in 2006 that actually stars two Australian actors (Andy Rodoreda, Kate Atkinson) just like Orange Roughies. NZ On Screen again supplies the opening episode of the show and there's a brief nude scene from Marissa Stott where we see her bottom and a hint of her left breast which looks like there's a patch over her nipple before she joins a bloke in the shower. I have also included a sexy video with Kate Atkinson.

Again, the show doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Both Street Legal and Doves Of War are from the same production company and so is Orange Roughies, which is available to watch on free streaming platform Tubi (which I capped Orange Roughies from), so never say never.

Going through a few Australian 70s movies recently, I remembered that there was short film on YouTube that had a nude scene from 70s bombshell Delvene Delaney, best known for being on The Paul Hogan Show but for people my age, she was the hostess on game show Sale Of The Century for a few years in the 80s. The short film is from 1974 made by Hexagon Productions, best known for their 70s movies Alvin Purple, Alvin Rides Again etc. and this seems to have been made around the same time as their film, Petersen. Their movies are well known for their nudity and The Runner has a number of actresses in nude scenes too, not bad considering it's only 25 minutes long and the first 10 minutes is the setup. Delvene barely appears in the short, pretty much her entire role is in the video below. Gabrielle Hartley has the biggest female role and has a decent full frontal nude scene and shows her bottom in a sex scene plus wears a see-through gown which a better quality source would've shown better.

I remember seeing that Delvene did some nudity in a sketch in the bath on The Paul Hogan Show. I don't have a video of it but this low quality video on YouTube is possibly the scene I'm thinking of although it may not be complete.

 

Of course, there could be more nudity from Delvene, she was on The Box for a while. Someone may know more.

Both Marilyn Rodgers (Felicity, Australia After Dark) and Judy Stevenson (Alvin Rides Again) who are very briefly nude in The Runner have also had nude scenes in other productions.

In regards to a better source, I was hoping that as a Hexagon Production it might've appeared on the excellent and seriously out-of-print Hexagon DVD box set but a look at the contents does not list it and all bar one of the short films on the DVDs are film school shorts which was something Roadshow Films did with all it's DVDs. Missed opportunity but we're lucky to have this available so beggars can't be choosers...

Update: A reader has made me aware of some outtakes from Picnic At Hanging Rock which has a longer, better look at the unknown girl at the window and I can rule it out being Anne-Louise Lambert as it's clearly not her. I'm still not sure who it is but it might be Ingrid Mason, who was cast as Miranda after director Peter Weir decided he didn't want Lambert, later to change his mind and re-cast her when Mason didn't work out. Mason has a small role in the movie as one of the school girls and looks similar to Lambert, so maybe. Anyway, here's a pic with a better look of the girls face plus a pic of Ingrid Mason from another outtake.

A Look at the Picnic At Hanging Rock Bluray

Came across a reference to Gheorghe Zamfir recently and remembered that his most famous piece was used prominently in the 1975 Australian movie Picnic At Hanging Rock and couldn't remember whether I've watched the movie or not. So I decided to watch the Bluray and it turns out that I probably haven't because I only remember the iconic stuff from the movie. Unsurprisingly, the movie is very good and the last 15 minutes are incredibly fucked and we still don't know what happened to the missing girls.

I just took it for granted that there was no nudity in the movie being PG rated and I hadn't seen it mentioned. But 35:15 minutes into the movie, Jacki Weaver is in bed with a bloke and quickly gets up to get dressed and there's a very quick look at her bottom as she leaves the bed. It's pretty much nothing and easy to miss but this site is nothing if not thorough.

The main reason for this post is because of the excellent site Topless Review, which chronicles nude scenes and has an encyclopaedic list of British actress nude scenes. It also has an Australian/New Zealand actress section which is very good and features more than a few listings that I don't have yet on my list. There's a listing for Anne-Louise Lambert, who plays the iconic Miranda character as being nude in a deleted scene that is shown in the ridiculously extensive, longer than the movie documentary about the making of the movie which I decided to finally have a look at. The scene itself is brief and shot from a distance and Anne-Louise is naked but she covers her right breast and genitals with her hands and her hair covers her left breast. An interesting scene which does feature in the movie with Anne-Louise in the clothes she was wearing when the man dreaming the scene saw her, which I'll admit makes more sense in regards to the movie.

As far as I know, this is Anne-Louise's only nude scene but I have seen so little of her work that I have no idea if this is true. Before Picnic, she was famous for being in No. 96, a sexy soap famous for showing nudity but a lot of the show has disappeared off the face of the Earth including what looks like most if not all of her appearance in the show.

There also another brief deleted scene show in the documentary where one of the school girls in standing in front of the window naked but covered by a sheet. It's hard to tell who it is but it could be Anne-Louise as it looks like her. I cannot be sure so I'll leave it unknown until further evidence.

Obscure: The films of Boulevard Films

Boulevard Films was a production company started by Melbourne writer Frank Howson and Peter Boyle (not the awesome 70s character actor/Everybody Loves Raymond patriarch Peter Boyle) and they decided to take advantage of the controversial funding statute 10BA where investor received 150% back on investments in film which say a slew of mostly forgotten movies made in the 80s/early 90s. They began with the Laura Branigan-starring Backstage which was bought out by another company and taken from their hands. They then went onto the entertainment industry dramas Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Heaven Tonight with the former probably being their most successful and probably best film about a screenwriter (John Waters) who takes stock of his life after being diagnosed with cancer. Heaven Tonight barely got a release in cinemas despite also starring Waters and a very young Guy Pearce as a father and son grappling with their place in the music industry. Anyway of those mentioned movies only Backstage has nudity from American pop star Laura Branigan, something I'll get around to capping one of these days.

They also made other movies that I have capped, some with extensive nudity like the corporate thriller Hunting with a fair bit of nudity from Kerry Armstrong, My Forgotten Man (also called Flynn) about Errol Flynn which has a number of nude scenes including from Claudia Karvan. I also recently capped Beyond My Reach which you can see more info on here. That movie barely got a release but it was bought by Warner Brothers in the US but didn't really see the light of day by the looks of it.

Those are the movies that actually got some sort of release even if it was very small. There's also a bunch of movies that never got a proper release or in the case of one, was never released because of contractual reasons or something. I was able to get a hold of a couple of them so I'm going to go through them today.

Crimetime

Crimetime was the aforementioned never released 1993 movie that was apparently not allowed to be released for some baffling reason, you know what movie accounting is like. Anyway, I came across a workprint of the movie and well it needs a lot of work to be completed. Sound is low, picture isn't colour coded, no credits; the usual workprint unfinished look. The movie itself is a mostly forgettable corrupt cop thriller where Marcus Graham and the film's writer Bruce Venables are the only non-corrupt cops in the force who come across a plot of something dastardly that seems to be run by their boss (Steven Grives) and also from high-ups in government. A determined young journalist (Lucy Bell) catches annoys the cops, at first thinking they are corrupt but they enlighten her to something much bigger. Turns out that a secretive group is sell live babies on the black market or something, it's so baffling that the reveal is actually a pretty wild shot of a bunch of babies on a plane ready to be transported. The movie barely tops out at 80 minutes and the plot could've done with some more explanation but it's not entirely a write-off. Graham and Venables work well together and there's a pretty fun vibe throughout best exemplified by a joke about a man dying while having sex.

Well, there's a brief nude scene in the movie from a character named Susan who I swear is mighty familiar but with no credits, it's hard to confirm. So, I did some research and well... OK, I was going to go through how I come to working out who it was like I did a few years ago but I can't find the information online any more and her agency credits list doesn't have it listed like it used to. Anyway, it's Melbourne character actress Nicole Nabout in her first movie, at least 5 years before she has any credits listed on IMDB. She's still working regularly, turning up in the new series of Jack Irish just released but is probably best known as the Muslim librarian in the sitcom The Librarians. As far as I know, it's her only nude scene so this is a hell-of-a-find that was almost lost to history.

The Final Stage

In 1990 (or maybe earlier), Howson made a movie called Friday On My Mind which never saw the light of day so what better thing to do when you need to show investors a finished product and you don't have one than to substitute in the 'finished' Friday On My Mind as a new movie. Sounds like fraud and Howson was convicted although he still claims that it's bullshit. Anyway, the movie was renamed The Final Stage and was never released despite a 1995 listing from various sources while a 2005 Melbourne Underground Film Festival listing claims that it's screening there was the first ever public showing of the movie. Well, I've got a copy of the movie and it's basically a filmed play starring Abigail and Adrian Wright as a married couple who are going through stuff and I've got to be honest, I tuned out while watching it as the movie became interminably insufferable very quickly and even at a strangely short 65 minutes, felt like absolute torture.

For some reason, I thought that this movie was rated PG as I'm sure I've seen it listed as such and because of that I wasn't going to watch it. There's a couple of PG sex scenes featuring Abigail and then just before the end of the movie at 1:01:00, Abigail takes off her dress and strips naked revealing her breasts and then bottom for the next couple of minutes. Got to say, it was unexpected and feels unnecessary and I have no idea why such a scene exists (I could say that for much of the movie to be honest). My understanding is that this was Abigail's final nude scene, it was definitely her final movie with the rest of her career just TV appearances including in the notorious Chances, so I can't be sure if it is her final nude scene.

Also of note is that Guy Pearce is listed in the cast of Friday On My Mind but is definitely not in The Final Stage which suggests that there are other versions of the movie. The film festival version has it listed at 85 minutes while as I said above, the version I have is only 65 minutes plus a minute of credits.

There's also one more movie that hasn't been released and I haven't been able to track down called The Intruder starring Tottie Goldsmith and Lachy Hulme (in what would've been his first movie) that has an intriguing synopsis from Howson himself on IMDB, including the line 'This erotic horror movie pushes the boundaries of what is deemed safe and commercial.' Hmm... At one stage the IMDB page listed it as rated X which would be preposterous as the rating is only given to porn movies but it now is listed as the significantly 'safer' rating of M although I can't see how this conclusion came about. The movie has never been released as it was unfinished but it did have a workprint showing at the same film festival as The Final Stage did. Been looking for this movie for over 20 years, guess I'll never see it...

There doesn't seem to be a deep dive into the Boulevard Films saga, which would be a fantastic read if anyone actually does one, so much shonky behaviour, so much animosity towards Howson (some of it at least earned) and a bunch of movies that 'never' saw the light of day. At least I found a couple of 'unreleased' movies.

Known Knowns

One of the rules of the nude guide is that I've had to video proof of the scene, otherwise it's not currently on the list. Well that's not always possible, a lot of stuff gets lost over time and some stuff just disappears from public. Back in the pre-johnny-moronic.com days where I only made caps (and occasionally some incredibly low-fi videos), I made collages of a bunch of movies and TV shows off VHS that haven't made the grade to DVD/Bluray/streaming or don't get replayed any more.

Today's update features a bunch of Australian movies and TV shows with nudity that have all but disappeared, but I have proof of because I capped them back in the day.

Jeanette Cronin and Angela Punch McGregor in Terra Nova

Long lost 1999 low budget drama from director Paul Middleditch whose films have a habit of barely being released (see A Cold Summer) and Terra Nova never made the leap from VHS and doubtful ever will. But, I capped the movie very early on and made some quick collages and also looking through some old CDs, I also made some small videos with no sound that aren't really worth posting. A rare leading role for character actress Jeanette Cronin who is regularly seen in Australian movies and TV. I think that this is her only nude role and well she went all in with two full frontal nude scenes including a lengthy cunnilingus scene which got the film an R rating. Angela Punch McGregor

I lost my collage of Angela, possibly in the great hard drive crash of 2003 where I had to make a call to collectors to recover the collages but I found a small video I made from the movie and it shows that we might see her right breast very briefly as the bloke moves off of her. The collages would have shown it better as the videos are not much bigger than the images below. As far as I know, Punch McGregor has three other nude roles most notably The Chant Of Jimmy Blacksmith and the Michael Caine starring pirate movie The Island.

Simone Kessell in White Collar Blue

For about six weeks I capped episodes of White Collar Blue off VHS recordings and during that stint I came across an episode featuring Simone Kessell who very briefly shows her right breast and maybe her left breast. It's was only a matter of frames from memory. I didn't cap much of White Collar Blue and missed a later replay of the show or it disappeared, probably both from memory. Strangely, 10 have never bothered to replay it or even put it up on their catch-up service despite playing for two series. They have put up an array of TV shows that have been long forgotten like Out Of The Blue and Echo Point but not White Collar Blue. I have no idea whether there was further nudity in the series.

Simone has a number of nude scenes from Australian and New Zealand productions plus the South African made TV series flop Of Kings And Prophets. You can find the listings here and I'm not sure it's a complete list.

Sophie Heathcote and Maria Papastamatopoulos in Raw FM (series 1 episode 8: Raw'n'Sore)

Late 90s ABC drama about a community radio station and the people around it that had a fairly decent cast of up-and-comers but has been lost in the dark dingy annuls of ABC productions that never get seen again. Looks like I capped it in 2003 from a replay and in the episode Sophie wears a see-through dressing gown where we see her breasts and she joins Maria Papastamatopoulos on a bed who briefly shows her right breast. There's also a polaroid photo that looks like Sophie is flashing her breasts but it's hard-to-tell if you see her breasts from my collage. Sadly, Sophie died back in 2006.

    
    

 

Imogen Annesley in Flair

1990 Australian/US mini-series that a very nice person gave me a video of which I took caps from. The quality of the VHS rip was pretty good but this mini-series seems to be lost in time which is disappointing as it is an American co-production and it has Imogen Annesley's best nudity. American actress Heather Thomas may also be naked in the mini-series.

Australian and New Zealand Actress Nude Guide Introduction

Finally after 7 years of gathering all the scenes I have capped of Australian/New Zealand actresses, I can finally unveil the extensive, but in no way complete guide of nude scenes. There are over 1000 actresses listed and upwards of 1600 entries, far more than I ever expected, hence the length of time it took to get to here. In the beginning, I just listed whatever I had in my videos but I then realised in many cases that is not how they appeared in the movies/TV series, so I went and sourced pretty much everything all over again and then rewatched the scenes in context to the production and described it as such and then added timecodes to help find the scenes although timecodes are subject to limitations. You will also find that nearly all entries are linked to where you may find collages, raw HD caps and videos of the scenes. There are some examples where there isn't a link to the scenes; that will be because I haven't capped it yet or they are 'unavailable'.

I have a yearly section for nude scenes that appeared since 2015 (I started this so long ago there was even a few entries in a 2014 section before I abandoned it). The yearly lists have quite a few entries, at least 30 actresses in each year with 73 in 2015 alone. 2021 is coming along nicely, already 15 Australian/New Zealand actresses have had nude scenes so far.

The definition of a 'nude' scene is somewhat stretched to include side-boob and bum crack scenes and scenes where the actress is naked but covers her breasts. There are also a few entries for see-through shirt where you can clearly see the actress' breasts but there aren't that many.

While there are over a thousand entries in the guide, there are still small holes that can and will be filled over time. I have plenty of movies, short films, TV shows and web series I haven't gotten around to capping including a whole bunch that are hard-to-find and/or are only available in low quality or only available in VHS rips of the movie as they've never been released any other way. Recently, there's been a surge in incredibly obscure Australian stuff that has been uploaded to various places on-line and will hopefully end up on the site in the future.

I will also be starting a blog to catalog a whole lot of stuff that I've had trouble catagorising on the site. Whether it be just stuff that's impossible to find but is known, stuff that's never been released or only available via trailers (surprising not that rare), low quality material, obscure gems that have recently become available and other things that will be fleshed out over time. More stuff is becoming available as it has become easier to make available and a growing interest in content, so it will be an ongoing project.
