Australian/New Zealand movies: 1990
Into the 1990s and this year is surprisingly deep with the amount of nudity in movies. There's quite a bit of nudity in movies like An Angel At My Table, Bloodmoon and the weird erotic psychological thriller Fantasy. Also a few international co-productions and foreign actresses turn up plus the only nudity in movies from Kylie Minogue, Danielle Spencer and Zoe Carides. Also the final ever nude scene from sex siren Abigail in an unreleased movie.

An Angel At My Table (NZ/Australia)
Jane Campion-directed biopic about New Zealand writer Janet Frame (Kerry Fox on debut) told in three parts as we follow Janet as a young girl with curly red hair and bad teeth who wants to be a teacher but also a writer. She eventually goes to teacher's college but because of her severe shyness it is suggested that she spends time in a psychiatric hospital which she does for 8 years as she is misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. Janet gets into writing and after having a few things published, she receives a literary grant which she uses to travel around Europe. While in Spain, she falls in love with an American writer. Dour and very lengthy (158 minutes) look at the life of Janet Frame that is interesting in that while Janet is a well-renowned author, she's always presented as an unremarkable person who seems out of place in most situations she finds her self in.
A fair bit of nudity from Kerry Fox including full frontal nudity.

Beyond My Reach
Another depressing Boulevard Films drama about how the entertainment industry is incredibly shit (see also Backstage, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Heaven Tonight), This time it's about the writer/director team of Alex (Alan Fletcher) and Christopher (David Roberts) who have a hit film locally and get the attention of American super-producer Steven Schaffer (Nicholas Hammond) who wants to release it in America. Schaffer sends his partner Terri (American actress Terri Garber) to help them settle into Los Angeles then Schaffer decides to recut the third act which pisses off Alex but Christopher is willing to see how it pans out. Alex goes home but Christopher stays and begins a relationship with Terri. She introduces him to an agent who teases him his passion project if he directs this big new comic book adaptation called Viperman. He reluctantly accepts and he ends up getting sucked in by Hollywood excess plus he has a lead actor who is terrorising the production and then a new producer takes over and Christopher doesn't care about the movie anymore. Then Viperman becomes a big hit and Christopher is locked in for further movies and can't direct the passion project. He quits and comes back to Australia to help Alex get his passion project up. Total insider movie that's all about the industry and is probably unwatchable to anyone outside the industry. Everything about the movie is total cliché about art being better than the Hollywood machine but then they show a scene of the passion project and it's laughably terrible, the type of movie that Australians would ignore lets alone Americans. It barely clocks in at 75 minutes but it hits more clichés per second than any film I've seen recently. Then there's a montage set to 'I Love L.A.' by Randy Newman which gave me a full body cringe. Terrible...
Terri Garber shows her breasts during a sex scene.

The Big Steal
The third Nadia Tass and David Parker movie and probably their best. High school student Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) has just turned 18 and all he wants in life is a date with fellow student Joanna (Claudia Karvan) and owning a Jaguar car. He spots the car of his dreams at a local car lot and trades in his parent's old Nissan Cedric with shady salesman Gordon Farkas (Steve Bisley). He goes on a date with Joanna which goes well until the Jag breaks down and it turns out that Farkas has switched the engine out of his car and put a dud in Danny's car. So he and his friends decide to get revenge on Farkas by swapping the engines back while he has a night out at a city strip club. This goes well until Farkas sobers up and it's tit-for-tat from then on between Danny, his friends, Joanna and her possessive father with Farkas and his co-workers. The Big Steal just works on every level with two charming leads in Mendelsohn and Karvan plus a fantastic array of supporting characters with the standout being Steve Bisley's smarmy car salesman. Good laughs and a fun time.
Sheryl Munks briefly shows her breasts while there's some brief nudity in a strip club scene which strangely passed with a PG rating (but is cut out of any TV showing).

Bloodmoon
One of two terrible horror movies made in Queensland that were directed by British cinematographer Alec Mills. Set in a small coastal town where there are two Catholic boarding schools, one for the boys, one for the girls. When a boy and girl from each school, who are lovers, go missing, it starts a chain of events which affect the entire town. After another couple of lovers are presumed missing, scrutiny falls on a science teacher of the girl's school Myles (Leon Lissek) whose wife Virginia (Christine Amor) is the headmistress at the school and she cuckolds her husband by sleeping with the students from the boy's school. Well, it turns out that Myles is the killer and has set his sights on the beautiful rich girl Mary (Helen Thomson). But he has to kill so many people just to get to her. Incompetent horror movie that gives away the killer halfway through then clocks up a surprisingly high body count by the end. Strangely it's a movie that attempts to have loftier intentions than the usual teen slasher, but is betrayed by a completely rambling script, some utterly appalling acting and some of the most terrible and laziest kills ever committed to the screen. There are worse horror movies that have been made in Australia but this is definitely in the bottom few.
Quite a bit of nudity in Bloodmoon as it's a fairly sleazy movie. Christine Amor, Suzie MacKenzie, Samantha Rittson, Tess Pike and Karen Miers all have nude scenes. I've finally upgraded the videos from the movie to HD which you can find below.

The Crossing
Drama about Sam (Robert Mammone), who comes back to town after leaving 18 months beforehand, hoping to continue where he left off. But he finds out that his ex-girlfriend Meg (Danielle Spencer) has moved on and is going out with his best friend Johnny (Russell Crowe) and they are getting married. Tension develops between the two friends and they take out their frustrations by racing their cars against each other. This all comes to a head when Meg is asked to choose between Sam and Johnny and the result is going to be devastating. Simple tale of a love triangle gone wrong, nothing special, but the leads are all pretty solid especially Robert Mammone who has a bigger role than Russell Crowe here.
Danielle Spencer briefly shows her breasts at the beginning of the movie.

Dead Sleep
Second of the Alec Mills-directed Queensland-made horror movies and probably the worst of the two. Out-of-work nurse Maggie (Linda Blair) takes a job at a psychiatric hospital under hostile nursing head Sister Kereby (Christine Amor) where a radical therapy treatment under heavy sedation is run by the respected Dr. Jonthan Heckett (Tony Bonner). After her trial is up, Maggie is upgraded to the night shift and working closely with the doctor in the sedation ward, which goes well despite some reservations about shocking patients during sedation. One night, a patient who'd been supposedly doing fine dies while under sedation and Maggie decides to quit her job and make a complaint about the patient's death. But, it is buried by an incompetent bureaucracy. Then an ex-boyfriend Hugh (Andrew Booth) is arrested on drug charges and decides to undertake therapy at Dr. Heckett's hospital instead of going to jail but he comes out of the hospital zombie-like and ends up drowning in a lake in his parent's backyard. Maggie is now convinced that Heckett is shonky and she goes to a journalist for help, who tells her of possibly 50+ deaths related to the therapy. Maggie re-enlists back as a nurse at the hospital to help uncover the truth but when Hackett finds out her motives, it's a race against time to not only uncover the truth, but survive. Bizarrely off-kilter movie that attempts to mix serious drama with sleaze and never really marries it well. In fact it's the serious drama that seems off in this movie, maybe because it isn't really done well as Maggie's motives are constantly misplaced; at one time she seems very concerned, but at another she just wants to move on. The ending is pure B-grade filth, which is actually the best thing about it because Tony Bonner really lets loose. A poor movie but then I wouldn't have expected less from the makers of Bloodmoon.
A couple of nude scenes from Peta Downes plus some scenes with some naked extras.

Death in Brunswick
Quality black comedy about Carl (Sam Neill) who starts a new job as a cook at a shady nightclub and meets a young waitress (Zoe Carides) and they fall in love against her family wishes. Then everything goes wrong for Carl when he accidentally kills his fellow cook and he has to dispose of the body, getting the help of his best friend Dave (John Clarke). The dead cook's friends take revenge on the club by firebombing it which inadvertently implicates Carl, who has just been fired for his job. Fairly funny comedy with a number of memorable scenes especially the farting corpse plus it's a great time capsule of the inner Melbourne suburb of Brunswick circa 1990.

The Delinquents
Romantic melodrama that begins in North Queensland in the 1950s as Brownie (Charlie Schlatter) forms a crush on Lola (Kylie Minogue). After initial reluctance from Lola, they fall quickly and deeply in love, then Lola gets pregnant and everything changes. Immediately, Lola is sent away by her mother and Brownie runs away from home to look for her. After a while, he gives up and gets a job on a boat with Bosun (Bruno Lawrence). Brownie then finds Lola in Melbourne and their relationship begins again but there are barriers to them getting together at every turn but nothing will tear them apart. OK romantic movie, nothing special and you know that Brownie and Lola are always going to be together even when they are apart.
Kylie Minogue shows her breasts in one scene and almost does in a couple of others.

Demonstone
aka
Deathstone / Heartstone
Manila shot supernatural horror thriller that was to be directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith but he had to pull out at the last moment. Buck (Jan-Michael Vincent) has quit the Marines and while laying low helps out by McKee (Pat Skipper) in a bar fight that takes a sudden dramatic turn where everyone but Buck and McKee die. McKee is accused of killing them all but Buck knows better and calls in his Marine buddy Joe (R. Lee Ermey) to help track down McKee before the local authorities get to him. Meanwhile, journalist Sharon (Nancy Everhard) is covering the murders and comes across an ancient amulet that turns her into the same killer who killed everyone at the bar. While falling for Buck, Sharon comes under the control of the amulet and then the bodies pile up as the curse of the amulet unleashes it's 400-year revenge on the descendants of its rage. Silly stuff but not all that bad with a pretty solid cast of sort-of known American actors and a neverending cast of locals who line up to get bumped off.
No real nudity in the movie but a couple of brief side-boob scenes from Nancy Everhard and an implied nude scene from an unknown Filipino actress.

Fantasy
Ridiculous erotic drama about a university student Jenny (Clare Chilton) who is in a loveless marriage with her soon-to-be doctor husband Rod (Campbell MacPherson) so she placates herself by having an affair with English lecturer Linda (Jane Darley-Jones). Jenny tells Linda of her fantasy man who she saw in a photo in a magazine and it turns out to be a middle-aged man which Linda thinks Jenny can do better. Then a guest lecturer arrives at the university, psychiatric doctor Dr. Quentin Doland (Colin Borgonon) and he turns out to be Jenny's fantasy man. At first she's standoffish towards him but that only interests him and over the next month the enact out her sexual fantasies then she asks that they act out his. He takes a week to prepare and comes up a bizarre psychological experiment where he and his fellow staff play out a scenario where Jenny is a maid in a provocative uniform and he then spends the next month treating her like a maid where she is abused at every corner and he withholds his attraction to her. At first Jenny is going to leave then she decides to stick around hoping to get with the doctor but when Linda and Rod get involved, the experiment goes haywire and will end in violence. While billed as an erotic movie, the movie plays out as a psychological thriller gone wrong. There's an interesting idea here but the movie is walking a line between soft core erotica and psychological thriller and always ends up on the side of erotica preferring to only have a fairly simplistic look at the psychological side of things. Plus the ethics of this experiment are highly suspect and then completely fucked when one of the help/doctors rapes Jenny. It just gets sillier from there. Better filmmakers would have made something of this premise.
Quite a lot of nudity from Clare Chilton plus nudity from Jane Darley-Jones and Julia Binns.

Fatal Sky
aka Project: Alien
International production shot in Norway and Croatia and directed and produced by Australians. Sci-fi thriller where two journalists Jeff Milker (Michael Nouri) and TV host George Abbott (Maxwell Caulfield) go to Norway to investigate the circumstances after an American fighter jet falls out of the sky. The story is enhanced when they find out a colonel (Charles Durning) is very much involved in covering what happened up. Jeff enlists the services of local pilot Phyllis aka 'Bird' (Darlanne Fluegel) to help scout out the area where the jet crashed and find themselves neck deep in a military conspiracy with their lives in danger. OK sci-fi conspiracy thriller which was all the rage during this time, fairly watchable but nothing you haven't seen before.
Darlanne Fluegel shows her bottom a couple of times, once behind shower room beads.

Father
Drama about a family who are living a pretty good life in Melbourne until this is shaken up when a tabloid current affairs program accuses grandfather Joe (Max von Sydow) of being a sadistic Nazi officer thanks to one of his victims Iya Zetnick (Julia Blake). He maintains his innocence and has the support of his daughter Anne (Carol Drinkwater) even when he is charged with war crimes. Joe goes to trial and is found not guilty but Iya decides to take matters into her own hands and it's going to end in tragedy for someone. Not bad drama that is driven by solid performances by the main actors particularly British actress Carol Drinkwater as she is caught in a quandary of whether or not to believe her father is innocent.
There's no nudity in Father but there's a sexy video of Carol Drinkwater here.
The Final Stage
aka
Friday on My Mind
Frank Howson/Boulevard Films strikes again, this time with a movie that never saw the light of day beyond a bootleg version of the 'finished product'. Basically a filmed play starring Abigail and Adrian Wright as a married couple who are going through stuff and I've got to be honest, I tuned out while watching it as the movie became insufferable very quickly and even at a strangely short 65 minutes, felt like absolute torture.
There's a scene late in the movie where Abigail takes off her dress and strips naked revealing her breasts and then bottom for the next couple of minutes. It had been a while since Abigail had done a nude scene and this was her final time she would appear nude in either movies or television.

Golden Braid
Very odd Paul Cox drama about a clockmaker/repairer Bernard (Chris Haywood) who is having an affair with a married woman Terese (Gosia Dobrowolska) whose husband (Paul Chubb) runs the local Salvation Army. One day Bernard buys an antique armoire and discovers a cut-off braid inside. He imagines that it is of a gorgeous woman from yesteryear and becomes obsessed with imagining the woman it belongs too, which interferes with the relationship he is having as fantasy and reality begin to blur into one another. He also fixes a clock for an elderly woman (Sheila Florance) and attempts to mend his relationship with his outcast brother Ernst (Robert Menzies). About as silly as Paul Cox has ever been, Bernard's obsession with the braid goes to such ridiculous places you have to wonder whether someone should've stepped in and told Cox how ridiculous this story is. A scene is a restaurant toilet involving the braid is all-time 'what the fuck am I looking at?' stuff.
Quite a lengthy nude scene from Gosia Dobrowolska where she briefly shows full frontal nudity in a shadowy scene but we do get a good look at her breasts and bottom.

Green Card
Australian/American co-production directed by Peter Weir set in New York where Brontë (Andie MacDowell) decides to enter a marriage of convenience with Frenchman Georges (Gérard Depardieu) despite not having met beforehand. She's doing it to get the apartment she wants and he's doing it because he has overstayed his visa and wants a green card. Brontë doesn't want her family and friends to know what she is doing so a series of events occur as she tries to hide her fake marriage. Over time Brontë and Georges end up falling for one another. To be honest this feels pretty tame for a Peter Weir movie, not used to him making a light comedy when he's made such great dramas and mystery thrillers. Not bad but definitely feels like someone other than Weir made it.
No nudity in Green Card but there's a scene of Andie MacDowell in her underwear with a hint of side-boob available here.
Hadn't seen half of the movies in today's update so I had to make videos from seven of the movies and it ended up taking a lot longer than I was expecting. There's a few movies starring American actors like Quigley Down Under, Secret Weapon and Wendy Cracks a Walnut plus a lot of nudity in the almost lost In Too Deep and Weekend With Kate.
Harbour Beat
Thriller where a rogue Scottish cop Neal (John Hannah) ruffles too many feathers so he's dumped down to Sydney to continue his career where his new partner Lance (Steven Vidler) is a rogue Sydney cop who's dedicated to the job and has just seen his previous partner Gavin (Gary Day) forced to retire early. Neal and Lance check out a case that hasn't been cleared where drugs were hidden in house. Neal manages to get into the house by posing as an architectural expert and checks the place out and ends up getting a massage from the owner Simone (Angie Milliken) and they fall for one another. Suspicion turns to scummy land developer Andrew De Santos (Toni Poli) who is none-too-happy to be found out and hits Neal with his car then Neal is arrested on drug charges. Lance finds out Gavin is involved and when confronted, Gavin shoots him. With Neal in jail and Lance in a quandary, it's going to take a lot to get out of this mess. Ridiculous cop thriller clearly aimed at the American market with a plot that meanders all over the place or is just filler to make up 90 minutes. Very little plausible happens throughout and the criminal plot makes no sense, something about storing drugs in houses or something, I don't know. About the only thing going for it is the two leads are pretty good, particularly Hannah who would go onto far bigger things.
Angie Milliken briefly shows her breasts.

In Too Deep
Sweaty Melbourne set neo-noir thriller about Wendy (Santha Press), a jazz singer who is in an intense relationship with Mack (musician Hugo Race) who's a singer in a rock band, Things are about to become strained between the two because of a number of reasons. First, Wendy's sister Jojo (Rebekah Elmaloglou) decides that she wants to stay with her big sis and wants to be just like her. Second, there are two cops that are following Mack convinced that he has a tape of a politician doing very bad things. And finally, it turns out Mack is also a bank robber who have pulled a number of heists and Wendy has found out and wants to feel the danger. Oh, and Mack is a psychopath and Wendy and Jojo are testing his patience. A somewhat interesting movie that looks suitably hot and sultry and has that lazy feel of neo-noir but there ain't much of anything going on apart from a whole lot of sex. There's barely any plot and what there is feels like filler between another sexy scene between Mack and Wendy. One of those movies that's almost lost to time.
Quite a lot of nudity from Santha Press in what is her only movie.

Quigley Down Under
A rare Australian western where an American sharpshooter Matthew Quigley (Tom Selleck) comes to Australia for a lot of money working for a local rancher Elliott (Alan Rickman) but it turns out he only wants Quigley to shoot any Indigenous people that comes near his farm which he refuses to do so after some resistance, Elliott and his crew dump him and a woman who tries to help him Cora (Laura San Giacomo) in the middle of Australia's harsh landscape to die. Only they survive thanks to an Indigenous tribe who nurse them back to health. Then Elliott's men start killing the tribe including all bar a baby that Cora had previously taken a liking to and Quigley decides he needs to finish Elliott once and for all. Strange tone to this western: sometimes comedic, sometimes dramatic and surprising amount of the movie involves Quigley and Cora with Indigenous people. It's a fairly watchable movie but tries to be more an American western which doesn't always work when dealing with distinctly Australian things. One of the most expensive Australian made movies at the time and Selleck was a pretty big star at the time so he was a good get.
The only nudity in the movie is from Indigenous women. I've also included a few scenes of Laura San Giacomo looking sexy throughout the movie.

Raw Nerve
Three-handed teen drama talkfest where friends David (Kelly Dingwall) and Michelle (Rebecca Rigg) break into a mansion for no particular reason and are later joined by another friend Billy (John Polson), who followed them. Over the next few hours, the three will map out their issues to each other while systematically destroying the mansion. Michelle recently had a kid she gave up to adoption and has moved to Sydney to be away from her father who is ashamed of her. Billy is just angry at everything and trashes the house as his way of dealing with it. David has a particular reason he is in this specific house and he is having a lot of trouble coping with it. Awful lot of talking and teenage angst throughout, nothing particularly enlightening and mostly boring. Even at just over 80 minutes it feels like an eternity.
Rebecca Rigg shows some side-boob as she changes clothes.

The Returning (NZ/Australia)
Supernatural horror movie about reluctant lawyer Alan Steadman (Phillip Gordon) who is given his grandfather's estate which pisses off his father who's looking for any excuse to get it. Alan takes a drive to the country and after coming across an abandoned house, he decides to give his entire inheritance to charity and stop being a lawyer. He moves into the abandoned house despite a rather cold welcome from the local priest (Max Cullen) and a truck almost running him over. On his first night there he has sex with a ghostly woman. Alan asks around about the house and doesn't get much of a response particularly from the priest. Then when his girlfriend Jessica (Alison Routledge) stays over, Alan stops dead in the dam where he was swimming only for Jessica to save him. Then that night, Alan again has sex with the ghost, this time while in bed with Jessica and then when she 'wakes' him, he runs off naked from the house and goes missing. With the help of a local they eventually find Alan naked up a tree. Then Alan finds the ghostly woman's diary, who died 100 years earlier and it looks as if she is about to wreak havoc on the town. A very New Zealand look at the haunted house genre, very depressing and moody although not at all scary but it has something a little different with the ghost sex angle which is a strange fit for a deadly serious horror movie. Not a lot happens for a long time and when it does, it comes quickly with a fairly devastating ending but it takes forever to get there as the movie meanders in the middle third with repetition and a rather dodgy priest character who bumbles around stringing Alan along. Hard-to-know what to make of the movie as it goes in a different direction than an American movie would.
Nudity from Jenny Ryken in a couple of scenes.

Ruby and Rata (NZ)
Light comedy about an elderly woman Ruby (Yvonne Hawley) who fears she is going to be sent to a retirement home so she gets her nephew Buckle (Simon Barnett) to find a tenant for the downstairs flat of her house. Enter Rata (Vanessa Rare) and he son Willie who are desperate for some stability in their lives. Ruby gives Rata a one month lease which Rata accepts then it turns out she's the new singer of a rock band The Apocalypse and when they practise in the flat, this sparks a series of tit-for-tat incidents between Ruby and Rata which bring Rata closer to being kicked out although both Buckle and Willie try to keep harmony between the two women. OK movie even though it's going over well-trodden territory in regards to neighbours who won't get along. The little kid Willie pretty much steals the movie as the shoplifting, fire-obsessed boy who climbs in-and-out of Ruby's house.
No nudity in the movie but there's a scene with Yvonne Hawley in the bath.

Secret Weapon
British co-production telemovie with a deep cast based on the true story of a Israeli man Mordechai (Griffin Dunne) who leaves his family and country when he finds out that Israel is secretly making nuclear weapons which he is disgusted by as he's a pacifist. With the help of friend Felix (Joe Petruzzi), he decides to tell his story to a British newspaper. That's when Mossad cotton onto Mordechai so they send in their best honey trap Ruth (Karen Allen) who forms a relationship with him but she senses something different with Mordechai and treads lightly which causes conflict with her handlers who want a quick capture. Politically charged thriller that is obviously dated but the focus of the movie is more on the 'honey trap' than anything else and the movie seems to have a fair bit of sympathy for Mordechai who is considered a traitor in Israel. Allen is an interesting choice as the 'honey trap' but she plays it well. There is some Australian influence in the movie with a few actors but you can hardly tell otherwise.
No real nudity from Karen Allen but there's some brief side-boob and other sexy stuff. There's one scene where a watermark visibly appears but this isn't a easy movie to get in any great quality. This is Allen's second Australian production for the year after the Bryan Brown-starring comedy Sweet Talker.

Sher Mountain Killings Mystery
Clumsily titled sort-of supernatural thriller where two idiots break into the house of a 103 year-old adventurer and steal a stone that gives eternal life. But before they can give it over to an intermediary, one of the idiots runs away and hides the stone at his brother's house. The brother, Alex (Tom Richards), was going on a camping trip but his friend cancelled so he asks his sister Muriel (Abigail) whether their mute, mentally handicapped brother Caine (producer Phillip Avalon), who she looks after, could come instead. Well Caine finds the stone and brings it with him on the camping trip. Then the idiot is caught by his partner and the intermediary and they kidnap Muriel and follow Alex and Caine to Sher Mountain National Park. Once there, a ranger ('Aussie' Joe Bugner) gives Caine a badge and says that he will keep him safe. When the partner and the intermediary arrive at the park, the ranger senses something up and what happens after this is something completely baffling. The movie is apparently an adventure movie but is incredibly low key for an adventure with barely any action and the only interesting character in the whole movie is The Ranger but even he barely registers. The plot is so ridiculous and doesn't really make any sense and Avalon's mentally handicapped character is laughably bad. Incredibly underwhelming stuff. There's no action, little adventure, the stakes are never more than low and the mystery isn't worth staying around for. Just one big yawn...
Tanya Ross briefly shows her breasts outside of corsetry as she approaches a bloke after a photo shoot.

The Shrimp on the Barbie (Australia/NZ)
Oh boy, our first Alan Smithee movie. Incredibly poor comedy where Mexican man Carlos (Cheech Marin) is lured to Australia but hates it's here and is broke until a Spanish restaurant owner Wayne (Bruce Spence) hires him on sight for being Mexican. During an incredibly bad night, Carlos is saved from further unemployment when one of his customers Alex (Emma Samms) offers him $10,000 to play her boorish soon-to-be-husband to piss off her family when she visits. Well, it goes awfully which is what Alex wants but then her incredibly rich father finds out what she's up to and plays along. Over time, Carlos and Alex fall for one another, drawn together by their horrible experiences driving back to Sydney. Which is great because Alex's actual fiancé Bruce (Vernon Wells) is having it off with her best friend Dominique (Carole Davis). Weak comedy with barely any laughs, a done-to-death plot plus British actress Emma Samms is playing an Australian woman and doesn't even bother with an attempt at an accent. Then it becomes glaringly obvious most of this Australian set movie was actually made in New Zealand with an occasional glimpse of Sydney. Just a bad, bad movie.
Possible nudity from Carole Davis with a shadowy scene where you see her breasts and another scene under water where you see her bottom. But I get the feeling both are from a double.

Sweethearts
Avant garde low budget drama about the man with no name (John F. Howard), who is into old-fashioned things and his girlfriend Juliette (Christabel Wigley). We start at the apex of their relationship and for the rest of the movie we watch it's slow demise into the Melbourne nightlife. Juliette becomes interested in local celebrity Dickie (Richard Clendinnen) while the man makes desperate attempts to keep the relationship going. That plus we see a bunch of acts at a local nightclub. Not much to the movie other than that. It's kind of boring and there are long stretches where we just watch friends of the filmmakers do their acts.
No nudity in Sweethearts but there's a few sexy scenes featuring Christabel Wigley.

The Sword of Bushido
Thai-shot action thriller with Australian martial artist Richard Norton playing a former Navy Seal who goes to Thailand to find the Sword of Bushido which went missing along with the plane it was on. There's a reward for the sword's retrieval but after he finds it, he comes across a never-ending line of people who want the sword. As he tries to get back to the American consulate, he is helped by local girl Suay (Rochelle Ashana) and they fall for one another as they fight gangsters. Silly stuff plot wise but Norton's worth a look even with dodgy American accent.
Rochelle Ashana shows her breasts and has another scene where she's tied up with her hair over her breasts. Norton's wife Judy Green also briefly shows her breasts briefly early on in the movie.

Sadly I wasn't able to find an original English soundtrack for this movie so I couldn't watch it. I found a copy of the movie dubbed into Spanish so that's what you'll find in the videos below. A shame as the movie looks absolutely batshit crazy.
Alison Bruce shows her breasts in a fantasy sequence and there's other sexy scenes throughout the movie.

Waiting
Feminist drama where Clare (Noni Hazlehurst, very pregnant at time of shooting) is about to give a birth, but there is something a little different about this. Clare is a surrogate for Sandy (Helen Jones) who would like another child with her husband Michael (Frank Whitten), but isn't able to get pregnant. Sandy, Michael and their kids head to Clare's property with another friend Therese (Fiona Press) and her daughter joining them as Therese is making a movie about the entire experience. Also joining them Diane (Deborra-Lee Furness), a fashion editor friend who brings along Bill (Denis Moore) apparently her latest beau but nobody remembers inviting her. As Clare is preparing for her home birth, things don't go to plan with tension between Diane and Sandy because Diane slept with Michael, Bill being outed as a doctor who wants to convince Clare to have a hospital birth and Clare's father Frank (Ray Barrett) is watching all this, trying to mind his own business. There is some good things in this movie, mostly revolving around Clare but the other characters only seem to be there for comic effect more than adding to the drama. Very much of its time with surrogacy far more widespread and accepted than 25 years ago but still an interesting look at the issues when not going for laughs. It's a shame that it cops out with a twist in the end which somewhat undermines the feminist message.
Noni Hazlehurst, Deborra-Lee Furness and Helen Jones are all nude in the movie. Fiona Press has a revealing down blouse scene.

Weekend With Kate
Comedy about an overworked music promoter Richard (Colin Friels) who is having an affair with his colleague Carla (Helen Mutkins) so he decides to go to his holiday house for the weekend to break it off with his wife Kate (Catherine McClements). Just before he leaves, Richard's friend and huge rock star Jon Thorne (Jerome Ehlers) arrives and Richard decides to bring him along on the trip, hoping that he can have his way with Kate so that he can make the break up easier. As always, things become complicated. I capped this back in 2007 so it's been a while since I've seen it but I remember liking it fine despite being a fairly obvious tale. Friels and McClements would later get back together to star for a number of years in the popular cop drama Water Rats.
Catherine McClements is naked in a few scenes throughout the movie including brief full frontal nudity.

Wendy Cracked a Walnut
aka ...Almost
ABC's first attempt at a cinema released movie is a bit of disaster. Wendy (Rosanna Arquette) is a hopeless romantic who buries herself in romantic novels as her marriage to Ronnie (Bruce Spence) is fairly sexless. Ronnie goes on a trip to sell his confectionery products and gets stuck in the middle-of-nowhere. Wendy's workmates at the bank particularly Deidre (Kerry Walker) conspire to keep her apart from Ronnie and try to get her onto a new man which comes in the form of the 'too good to be true' Jake (Hugo Weaving). Wendy and Jake hit it off while Ronnie uncovers something that will change their lives and goes about bringing it into fruition. Will this break Wendy and Ronnie up? Completely silly movie that doesn't even bother hiding that Jake is completely in Wendy's head and she goes completely off the rails including stealing money from the bank. Bruce Spence is a very strange choice as Wendy's husband as he's clearly 15 years older then there's Wendy who's clearly Australian but Rosanna Arquette doesn't bother with an accent. Her character even says she's never left the country. So where did you get the American accent from? A baffling mess of a movie.
No real nudity in the movie but a couple of sexy scenes featuring Rosanna Arquette.

As always there's a bunch of movies that had nothing to cap in them including the military drama Blood Oath, another Boulevard Films depressing entertainment industry movie Heaven Tonight, violent action comedy Breakaway, disabled sports movie Struck by Lightning, crazy Melbourne edge-of-society black comedy Nirvana Street Murder, short gay drama Night Out, Bryan Brown con artist comedy Sweet Talker, comedy A Kink in the Picasso, drama Return Home, experimental drama set in a boxing gym Dead To The World, short comedy The Last Crop, short horror movie Evil Inheritance and the family movies The Rogue Stallion and Sky Trackers. There's also a couple of New Zealand movies including Peter Jackson's puppet movie Meet the Feebles and the Maori drama Flying Fox in a Freedom Tree.
Over the next few years there's a significant drop-off in the number of the movies made in each year so I might be able to get through them quicker. Maybe not as I still have to look at quite a few movies but it's looking more than likely they'll only be one update for each of the next few years.
